Default 1/14 Komatsu PC200 build

Hi guys,
I am Derrick, friend of Izzul. Previously, together we built the "1/10 Komatsu PC650" and were posted on this forum at:
http://www.rctruckandconstruction.co...VATOR+MALAYSIA

the cost to built the 1/10 is expensive and to travel the huge excavator is killing. some of the local rc fans had requested a smaller, budget-able and less-power version, the "1/14 Komatsu PC200"

And the story goes on again...

start of with a small cute die-cast for the critical dimension and feature.

Great idea putting the swing motor in the cab area, all too often a wasted area by other model companies.

Steel fabrication is becoming more popular all the time & so much simpler to form & weld than aluminum... not to mention the weight advantage that these models are always lacking.

The last pic of the press, is it a place where you work daily? Are you a metal worker by trade?

the swing motor, i intend to put it vertically instead of horizontal cause its a PC200 body, its relatively small size excavator. not much space left, cabin area is the only chance.

aluminum is light weight but don't have the strength, need up to thickness 3mm to nearly equal the strength of 1m steel. while my welder always quit worry on welding aluminum, tricky skill needed. while steel is less costly, but the rusting problem. epoxy powder coat will solve it.

i am a CAD drafter in a sheet metal fabrication factory. so it was easy for me to done all those metal stuff. i do the drawing, while my guy do all the bending, welding, drilling and etc. they are experience and skillful worker, but sometimes they got me boil up my head when they create rejected parts.

hi Neil,

250114-14.jpg

look familiar, isn't? No, is not the one you think. still it is a same old spool-valve but internally i redesign the whole thing for better seal to prevent over-flowing, improving the fluid route and adapt for bigger size connector and hose. ease of attaching extra flange if needed

it's my first 3d-print out experience. it took me 7hrs just for waiting on this front-cabin cover done printed out. i still have to do the rear counter-weight cover and engine cover. how many long hours it is going take anymore?
No, i put aside this 3d-print for awhile, i need to install those metal parts now and have the system running, on priority.

20140113_143136.jpg

so does partial of those machining parts. while my factory will have the tools and machine to do all those sheet metal but do not have the facilities to machine these parts. luckily i can always get help from next door. the cnc machining workshop is just next to my work place.

hey Kevin!
how are you? how is the progress of your excavator?
it will be slightly ease for me on this model since all the pain i got from the PC650. tell you a secret, we nearly gave up that time, problem keep occur one by one, sleepless night thinking of solution. lack of experience. but still there a challenge for this model as it's a PC200 which i had to squeeze in all the system in to its small compartment.
how about this way, Kevin. i try my best to finish this a.s.a.p in order to bring this model to SG, to play along with yours. how is that? by that time you must too able to finish yours , ok?

Happy Chinese New Year! to you too. wishing you have a prosperous yearS
