Default Tilt nose 379 Pete triple 3, I hope

Well this is my first tilt nose Pete I'm doing so we will see how it goes. LOL. I started with a set of FGD rails and tapered the rear section, used PMD cross members and Russ's air ride with the new bags.

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

I added one of Russ's blank rear bumpers.

[IMG][/IMG]

Drilled and installed some of Lynn's bezels.

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

Made a fifth wheel release and added one of Russ's sweat covers.

[IMG][/IMG]

Installed the motor.

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

Cut my cab and made a firewall.

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

Got a set of SnP Pete fenders and made a set of pipes for mock up.

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

Cut in the sleeper window.

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

And that's where I'm at right now, more pics to come as I move along.

Fantastic start! I don't think you'll have any problems knocking this one out of the park. She's a beaut already, and it's only begun. Looking forward to the updates, as they come!

Looks sharp Keith 2 thumbs up !

Ummmm, where is the " other motor"going to sit? Something like what TC did with his cab over where the motor is above the tranny instead of off the end?

Thanks Mario, I'm still or working on the trans issue. I want 4:1, and still plan on an MFU and possibly a wet kit, so I may take the easy road and do a R2 coupled with a PMD or Integy. Saving lots of room for the rest of the electronics.

Thanks Paul, is that a RC4WD 3:1 modified? I've been looking on the web for something like that. Hand made?

Nice work Keith! Great idea making one single hood hinge rather than 2 individual hinges. Much easier to get it straight I imagine.
Can't wait to see what's next?

Great idea Keith but when all is said and done will the hood clear the cab when you tip it forward, that is the object of the J hooks that hold the front of the the hood to the frame. As you raise the hood it moves the hood forward so it will clear the cab with the tails of the hood without hitting it. Ed

I see what you mean about the swing radius of the hood and why all the tilt hoods I've seen have that j hook style hinge.

I wonder if there is enough room to cut a horizontal J or more like a L slot in the frame mounting plate so from the closed position you could lift then pull the hood forward, then tilt?

I'm still a novice in the hobby but after what I've seen on this forum I am sold on a tilt hood and detailed engine bay. Someday....

Thanks Mario, yeah it worked well with the single pivot point.

Ed, the hood does clear when tilting. I moved the pivot point up as far as possible to avoid binding at the cab. I also put a slight slope or tilt on the btm of the hood extensions to avoid binding.

Having said that, I see what you mean about the "J" hinges. That style would be the ticket. Next one, LOL.

The only guy I've ever seen build a tilting hood with the real J brackets is Dreamweaver. Everyone else uses regular panio hinge, just like that, and no one seems to have any problems opening their hoods. That looks like it works just fine, and it looks good too!

Yeah, I am going to leave this one the way it is as it opens and closes fine. I arched the btm hood extension like the real 1:1 Petes and it seems to work good. I did make a "J" hook hinge set that works pretty good but I will leave it for the next truck.
