Figured my 773G needed a good pair, and I didnt just want to get another reg excavator so I decided to build the Cat 5080 Front shovel, I am going to push the envelope on my 3d printers and see how far and how strong I can get this bad boy to go with minimal metal needed....

I like the way these dig from grade up. Digging a roadway or face cut out of the bank seems like a better setup than a regular excavater.

I'm no fan of the plastic stuff but I like the machine you have chosen. I prefer the older style shovels but any type of shovel I like and will watch.

Fumotec incorporates 3D printed parts in his models, like the quick coupler on his hoe, seems to be holding up fine.

Other than the lack of weight, I think 3D model will prove to be quite robust.

Will you Brian be building the u/c from steel?

depending on the size of this machine i would buy
the undercarrage from rcbmin . i think they have both rc4wd and
the kat carriages

I agree

Thank you, and yes the plastic isnt ideal but I believe it will work out just fine.

Thanks Joe, and im debating on steel or aluminum for now, butost likely steel tray and everything else printed, i will be printing traxk pads and other wear and tear items with metal filament. Counter weight will be hollow and filled with brass or lead. :)

I want to build everything myself, and what they have is too small, this rig scalled is about 12 inches wide and tracks about 18" long tip to tip
