Recently treated myself to this RC model. It comes in various versions of completion but I picked the full metal unit and hydraulic system for it which left me with adding electronics, radio, final assambly and painting.
So here's some pictures

Oh, it doesn't look like it will be that fun, I think you would be better off returning it before it gets dirty. :p
On a serious note, thanks for the nice pictures! Neat to see what to expect out of the box on this sort of thing!;)
As I review the photos, I have a question. How do the pins in the tracks go in and out? I can't tell if they are threaded bolts or pins or what? Thanks!

Cool, I'm Lancashire so practically just over the field :) Keen to see some pics once its been pained as I'm a fan of the Vario Hitachi and this one looks like it will be very similar. Be great to get a dig going in the garden some time.

At moment they seem slow at answering emails. I Last emailed them Friday and got a reply Tuesday saying they really busy at the moment and vaguely answered my questions.
My guess is it is a upscaled bruder cat excavator.

But I did make some progress.
Put tracks back on the base

The excavator base attached to the track body.
At this point I decided to add some lock thread to the bolts holding it all together.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-C3dxtPlEZbM/Vc0EqmeN9gI/AAAAAAAAIlU/sBRfsdQF0tM/s640-Ic42/IMG_2910.JPG

Good looking machine
Hey, thanks for posting!
Magom has really upped their game since about a year ago.
I've completely forgotten about them.
They have a beefy looking hydraulics kit for the Carson LR634 crawler loader. I've been looking to upgrade the cylinders in my model.
That's a nice excavator! Thanks for sharing.

Agree looking on they Facebook page they have a lot of new toys in the pipeline. And the hydraulics seem to moved over to brushless motors and oil instead of antifreeze. The pump in the excavator kit is jung hr7 so i'm happy with that.

Not certain. On the Premacon website the hr7 pump States 900ml per minute.

ive got a bit of a problem with mine cause i built it from scratch and i have alot of support brackets going threw the center which took up all of my space. right now i am debating on switching to m5 fittings from m3. my rc4wd valve is all m5 the rest of my stuff is m3.

What controller and reciever are you using as im looking at buying one ?
Is the quality good for being cheap compared to the other models out on the market ?
Digger_Bear
08-27-2015, 05:42 PM
I don't know about the m5 or m3 this is my first hydraulic model so haven't a clue which is best.
Radio at first planned to use a turnigy 9x (with updated firmware) as I have one and provided 8 channels with some nifty mixing channels etc. Then bought a turnigy 9xr pro cheap off eBay basically basically same but few more bells and whistles but same 8 channels to control.
Quality of the magom. It looks like it's a nice engineered and built piece of kit, however I have found bits have come loose even before use so had to start removing bolts and grub screws to add lock tight. And at moment no instructions so got to make it up as I go along. I will know more when I get it running.

No painting at moment, need to wet and dry boom & bucket before moving onto clear coating it all.
So on with the internals
First plumbed up the pump to the valve block and figured the correct direction for the pump to ESC connectors

Sure it's a IBU2 which is a control board for 1/16 scale tanks. Heres spec page
http://rctankelectronics.weebly.com/products.html
I use them in my tanks and are great boards so decided to use in the excavator to control the tracks, slew motor, lights, sounds and exhaust smoke unit. It also has customable sounds so I can make it sound however I want.

Thanks for the kind remarks.
Question on the hydraulics. Since the resivor tank is small how do I fill up the system with out running pump dry?
Any comments on add oil and getting air out welcome total newbie with this stuff.

These are the steps for the Fumotec Komatsu 490LC. Should be similar. After each movement of the pushrods in the cylinder I would top up the oil if the tank is really that small. I was surprised at the total amount of oil needed.
First steps for hydraulics commissioning:
-Mount all nipples using liquid gasket
-Disconnect the cylinder pushrods from the Excavator arms, so there is no load on the cylinders.
-Looking from the front of the excavator, make sure that the hydraulic pump runs in a clockwisedirection.
-Open (anti-clockwise) the ‘max’ pressure valve (the little brass valve) 2 or 3 turns
-Start the hydraulic pump with about 15-20% rpm
-Close the ‘max’ pressure valve slowly until you reach 10-15 bar on the pressure gauge.
-Now open the first valve a small amount in each directions, this should release the sealing rings in the cylinders (in case the cylinders have been stationary for a period of time). You should see the cylinders moving in each direction.
-Once the cylinders are free to move then operate the valve to move the cylinder to its end position. Now operate the valve to move the cylinder to the opposite end of its travel, you may hear air bubbles returning to the oil tank.
-Move the cylinder 5-10 times from one end position to the other until there is no air bubbles returning to the oil tank (you should see the air bubbles in the yellow tubes)
-Repeat this procedure for all other cylinders
-Once all the air has been eliminated from the system you can reconnect the cylinder pushrods to their mounting points. Increase the pressure in the hydraulic system to 20 bar and you should be ready to move the excavator arms.

I have the same pump as you. Question....looking at the way you have it plumbed in on page 3, have you blown any lines or have you adjust the pressure? Also, is the pressure adjust screw that big brass screw on the bottom of the tank?
Thanks

It's a practical thing with such a small hydraulics tank, and I'm sure there is just enough oil in it in order to make the machine run smoothless, but what about heat development..? E.g Premacon use a pretty large tank, and much extra oil in the system, as a simple way of cooling.
Looking forward to hear how these valves and pump unit performs after some hours of running. I see no filter? The pump itself is well known to perform great, but I'm most curios about the valves, how leak-proof they will be. They are quite much cheaper than e.g. Premacon, naturally, and I might want to test them in my own machines in the future.

Hi guys,
Sorry for lack of posting been busy.
Not had too much run time but so far haven't blown any lines off and I only hand tightened the nipples. No leaks as yet but not had much use on any demanding ground.
Painting nearly done, just clear coat left to do and transfer to be made and added. Got some pictures so will upload when on my computer.

Split pipe as it comes off the pump. Thing is I didn't have pump running that high and I was indoors showing it off so wasn't putting it under any real strain.
Will have a clean up another evening see if anything looks wrong. For now I'm thinking some clear laquer coat overspray might of weakended the pipe as it's gone at that place.

Ran good, struggled pulling the grass/weeds out which I would expect. Gone through 2 x 2200mah 3S batteries running pump at 20-40% stalling the pistons with the load and no oil leaks pump and pipes only slightly warm so happy running okay so far.
Until!

Thought the grass had locked the tracks and caused a link to snap but looks like a simple derailment although too much tension in the spring to pop back on so looks like I need to open up the track to get back on :BH
But all learning curve. Don't over tax tracks when crambed full of grass!

Also this evening been playing with the settings on the radio.
So now I flick a switch it starts the pump at about 10%. Then
Main boom arm when called for adds 20%
Boom to bucket adds 10%
Bucket adds 10%
So overall the pump is running between 10% throttle at idle to a max 50% throttle with all 3 pistons been used.
It works good but way too fast for me who was running it down at about 20-30% so will make another profile with less power so I can get use to it then switch back to this version when I need the power.

Well be playing today, all running good. With the new settings to the pump running on demand getting much longer run time no issues with heat.
Also added a setting on the radio where flicking a switch on it automatically adds 20% throttle to the pump, bit like a boost option.

Again I can’t remember. Something like SMD 2.4x2.4mm white.
I got to admit I haven’t had much time to use the excavator over the year (been busy with other projects) but will point out issues I have had.
Not long after completed it the piston for the bucket stopped working, it had blown a seal/gasket. Magom sent replacements and the piston was easy to take apart and repair all in under half an hour. Not certain if the failure was manufacturing issue of my lack of skills as a new operator, running too high pressure digging into very hard ground. It happened, but hasn’t since so I’m not too worried and was a quick repair once I got replacement parts.
The tracks aren’t that great driving over rough terrain, don’t grip in dirt and spinning on spot tends to derail a track. Again this might be me, digging in sticky dirt (most the videos I’ve seen RC excavators are on sand or dry dirt)
The weight of the model seems light as the model tends to move rather than bucket through the dirt (my sticky dirt again). With sand this isn’t a problem.
Overall still happy with it and glad I bought it. Just shame I haven’t had enough time to use it over the summer.
