I have all ways wanted an RC backhoe and I like the new Bruder 5cx backhoe loader. I plan to modify it to be full RC.
Here are functions it will have:
. full independent working backhoe boom, stick and bucket
. 4 speed planetary transmission
. Full independent loader boom and bucket
. Combination bucket
. All wheel drive
I can't afford a lathe, mill or drill press and have no machining skills so Bruder was the logical solution. It will have some metallic parts like the bucket and drive train. The plastic buckets would be too weak for this application and would take lots of wear.

Here's a custom metal backhoe from Greece. First RC backhoe I've seen that actually works!:cool:

I wish you luck trying to cram all of those functions into such a small model. I'm sure many eyes will be on your build to see how you accomplish it.

I`ve seen a video of what looks like a bruder shaeffer mini excavator, with real hydraulics. thanks for the wishes!

Nice project, I wish you luck too. Not to detract from your plans but do you happen to have a link to the video of the mini excavator with hydraulics? I'd like to see that as well...

Steamer,
Thanks for the links but I don't think either of those is with hydraulics. I translated the comments from the first video and it seems the guy used some sort of racks or maybe a motor screw-drive cause I'm not sure how well google translated it. I did find a clip of a one that is hydraulic but the guy used the whole cab, which although is impressive, I was thinking that someone did it where it was all hidden and there could be a driver etc. Here is the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsQt6RiZHBU Not sure if this is the video you saw. Also, this is the last time I'll post about mini-excavators in your backhoe thread thetractorfan. I apologize for the tangent. If we continue with the mini excavators I think we should make a new thread.

no need to apologize. I have started work on the transmission today but haven`t bought the model yet.

Hi all,
I have changed my mind and am working on a metal R/C version of a Kaiser excavator.
