Thanks

I just purchased one. Its great. I was pretty dissapointed when i found out their is no bearrings in it but it is still a good buy. Ended up chucking it up in the lathe cause it was about a half inch to tall.

Torrington make some nice thrust bearings . Not certain if they would fit your application ..

I think I will try a couple of thin section bearings and see how they perform.

I used a tapered bearing on the top (carries both radial and thrust load):

And I used a regular ball bearing underneath. I machined aluminum bearing holders and screwed a 72t gear-ring onto the top one.
This might have been overkill, but it is super tight and it turns very smooth.

ptebbe: Where did you get that 72t gear ring? Do you have a link? Thanks in advance! :-)
I also used a tapered bearing on my excavator, but I also had another opposite-facing tapered bearing for the bottom one so that the tapers combined where in a X shape. It got very sturdy, tight and rolls very well (details here (http://rctruckandconstruction.com/showpost.php?p=133556&postcount=26))
Best regards,
Stein :-)
