Very new to this aspect of RC. Not familiar with the 1/14 Tamayia stuff, but the "Grand Hauler" looks like it would adapt to a dump fairly easily leaving off the sleeper and installing hydraulics.

First, will the Tamyia handle such use?

I am a scratch builder at heart, done ships, airplanes and helicopters. Do metal work, soldering, welding. Can work just about any medium. Thinking either heavy styrene (don't like that idea much) or sheet like brass or steel....possibly aluminum sheet as I have a tig.

Biggest question is Figarelli linear servo or hydraulic?

What is my inexperience not looking at?

yes it can be done. bo is doing one right now.
screw drive works the best. hydro gets messy
i can dead lift about 50 pounds with two firgilles
on my lowboy. problem is the longest stroke is to
short for a dump box. dump truck or dump trailer
will bottom out the stock suspenion unless you beef
them up.

search dump box, rear end dump,rcp57,smallhaul,stepside

Here's a link to one I'm working on. Its not a Grand Hauler but what I didn't make myself is Tamiya like the tranny and axles and front suspension and part of the cab.

Thanks guys. Heck you gotta have something to put the dirt into to move it. Right?

Looks like this may be the first item as one of the hobby shops I had stuff on consignment sold an item and it is enough to get the kit and speed controller.

I have seen on ebay I think some mechanism for dumps that the servo attaches to.

Is this what I need?

Thanks folks, I may be a PIA for awhile.

That's the unit I originally installed in the build I linked to above and they work great for smaller bodies. If your using a grand hauler you might want to build a screw drive. They are inexpensive and work quite well. You'll find pictures and parts list here on the forum. Your other option is like Bigford said talk to Reg at RCP's, he builds really nice dump boxes to your specs and the screw drive also.

Check out this thread starting at post #8, it will give you an idea of what you need to build a screw drive.
