This morning I was sitting in the garage tinkering with the Bruder Skidsteer conversion.....well trying to, but this guy WOULDN'T stay off my lap.

I think he was enjoying the warmth that Mr Heater Head was providing.
All was quiet when I heard the truck pull into the driveway. When the delivery gal got out, I noticed she was carrying a rather large box. Normally, I'd just sit back, & let them take it to the front door. This time, knowing I was anxiously expecting a delivery of about that same shape/size, I hopped up, & went to greet her. I was overly joyed when I found out the package was mine. :) It came today, my RC4WD 4200 excavator!

Now the work begins! I'll be going through it with a fine tooth comb, to make sure EVERYTHING is properly tightened, & locktite where needed. then I'll have to watch a Youtube video of how to properly fill & bleed the hydraulic system, before I get to doing that.

Hi Skeeter

Nice purchase
Enjoy your new machine a good pre inspection is always worthwhile and usually pays off in the long run.
Looking forwards to seeing it in action.

Got some time out in the garage today, & finished the Bruder Caterpillar D4 conversion. :bounce:
I know the bolts that hold the blade wear plate to the machine are a bit too large, & there are too few of them. They are what I was able to source locally.

Got a chance to get the 4200Xl out to play today. HOPEFULLY my friend gets the video of it, :bounce: as well as the clip with the D4 playing with it's 1:1 cousin, edited & sent to me. Soon as he gets them to me, I'll post them for all to see. :D

I must say I was impressed with the digging power of the RC4WD 4200Xl hoe. :) I am a lil disappointed with the track drivetrain though. :( When the machine is sitting there digging, the tracks freewheel. :jaw: They WON'T propel the machine either. IF I give it a helping hand, then they will drive fir about 4-6inches before they quit driving again. IDK what's going on with it. I'm awaiting a reply from RC4WD on this issue. Other then the drivability issue, I'm really satisfied with this machine!

I'm still working on the Bruder skidsteer conversion. I have to figure out where in that thang I can put a BEC unit. When I try to run the bucket servo, it browns out the receiver. I think the built in power supply of the Sabertooth 2X5 isn't quite strong enough to run the full sized servo.

Congrats on your new purchase  You got a good deal. Check out DiggingWithMartin on youtube. He’s had his 4200 for a couple years now and know’s everything there is to know about these excavators. In the future if you ever want to upgrade the track motors take a look at Soyland Industries (Rimrock) on here.

Today after the maiden excursion of the 4200, I sent PM to him. I think I will buy his upgade kit for the drive motors. the stock motors are junky, & already not working properly. I didn't even run a full battery through the machine, before the stock motors acted up. the machine wouldn't stay in place while digging. the tracks free wheeled, & allowed the machine to move as I tried to dig.
Thanks again for the info on his upgrade parts!

No work today, so I had time in the garage to mess with the Bruder Skidsteer conversion. I was able to show horn a BEC unit into it. With the 5V BEC unit in it, it now functions, as it SHOULD! I'll post a lil teaser vid of it. Sorry, the nephews were visiting, & got in the video a bit. They are both 2, & thought this was the neatest thing they've seen yet!
https://youtu.be/J4JD0Bu_aw8
Sorry for the crummy video quality. The video was taken using my cell phone.

After battling this one, I'm unsure if I'll be attempting the Bruder Delta loader conversion! This one was cramped enough to try & fit everything into. There's even less room in the delta loader to fit it all into!

My friend JUST sent me a short snippet of the video he took of the RC4WD 4200 excavator he took. This shows the track freewheel problem I'm talking about. When I try to dig, the tracks freewheel, & pull the machine towards the bucket. They SHOULDN'T move, as they are doing. RC4WD is sending replacement parts for it. I'm sure they will get here before the upgrade kit from SoylandIndustries does. I'll R+R the stock motors, so I can use the machine, until the upgrade kit gets here. Once the upgrade kit arrives, I'll switch to those motors.

I did it, I ordered from Magomhrc the metal bucket for the Bruder Liebherr L574 loader conversion. It should arrive me in about a week, or less. As soon as it gets here, & I get it installed, I'll try to post video of the loader

Bobcat looks good.
Does the excavator do that if you take smaller bites of loose ground?
Would horizontal videos be possible? Vertical is hard to watch on anything other than what recorded it.

http://www.rcbrmin.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=66_105&products_id=1282
Note. Orders must be more than 60 USD ( If less than $60 won't  be ship it)

DAM IT!, I missed the part about the $60.oo minimum. Oh well, I tried. Perhaps Friday, if they're still offering it, I'll order up that 550mm multi stage cylinder for the dump truck that I've been eyeing.

thanks fir the encouragement on the bobcat! It wasn't an easy conversion.

Yes the hoe does that even with smaller bites. I can make it freewheel the tracks with my hand pushing the machine. The tracks SHOULD slide atop the plywood, but they freewheel as I move it on/off the shelf.

There was suppose to be better video of it. He was going to take several angles of it working. He did get several nice stills of it sitting out there in the dirt.

On November 10th, I found this link on ScaleBuildersGuild & decided to chek it out. They were offering a pre-sale on them. I placed my order. It arrived me today!

This will be my first scale military RC vehicle. I've got pics of it I'll post later today/night. Also got a few more videos to post of the various equipment I have. I had a friend over today. He's ONLY just began in the RC world. When he saw all the possibilities available, he was definetely interested in the RC construction side of things. I filmed a bit, while he controlled the models. He wasn't familiar with the controlls of them, so the operating skill level is very beginner. With time, he got it figured out, & was doing better. unfortunately, my camera battery died, & I had to resort to using the cell phone for video.

EDITED to add a recent link that functions. The previous link was broken, & no longer worked. Here's a good link to find this kit.

12-13-2017, 09:47 PM
Well....POOP! :o I accidently hit a wrong button, & deleted ALL the videos from the camcorder, as I had the memory card plugged into the laptop. :( The couple videos I took with the phone, they are too large to upload. Since I CAN'T figure out how to get them out of the phone, I DON'T know what to do! Perhaps the next day off I have, I'll set up the camcorder on the tripod, & try to re-shoot everything ;)

As per the description from evilbay, the dimensions are
Product Size: 34X14X15cm

the link provided to this truck on evilbay is the RTR version. The stock battery is weak, as well as are the steering, motor, & speed control.

Sorry to hear about the issue you already had with the track motors. Rimrock’s track motors are a great upgrade over the stock motors on the 4200, you will be happy with the upgrade  The kit also includes stiffer idler springs. He’s kind enough to include an easy to understand installation guide to go along with the kit.

I'm glad his springs are stiffer! The stock springs are weak. Already they are allowing the tracks to sag, & be sloppy lose. When I lift the machine off the shelf, the tracks DON'T stay tight, & droop downwards.

THANKS, again to Stein for his open source 3D files!

Remember earlier this summer, when I 3D printed all them parts? Well, the time has come to start using them. Today I started on the Bruder Mack conversion. The one that will be as close looking to the stock plastic truck as possible. I got the front steering assembly put together, & mocked up on the truck. Here's a couple pics of the progress so far.

Here's a lil clip of the Bruder Liebherr 574 loader conversion digging rocks. It only gets about 1/2 a bucket at a time. I'm a lil rusty at the controls. There are 2 servo wires that I need to swap, to make this thang operate as I'd like to.

Those 3 videos were re-shot today. As previously mentioned, I accidentally deleted the original videos of them. Of the 3 conversions in the above videos, the Bruder D4 conversion is my favorite one. It is the most functional/usable of them all.

The Bruder Liebherr 574 conversion will have to have a ramp to load a truck with it.

The Bruder Skidsteer conversion is lacking power in the bucket curl servo. It'd work alright in a screening plant scenario to move stuff from the plant. Perhaps later on, I'll re-do the bucket servo to a stronger servo. If it had a lil more bucket curl power, I think it'd be an alright conversion.

Today we acquired the new laptop so that we can start to learn Fusion 360. Also acquired was a new camera so we can take better quality pics, AND videos too. The OS is Windows 10. The bios was locked. I took it to the computer guru place. They had to remove the hard drive from it, & hook it to another computer to get past the password. It costs me $45 bux, $49.50, with tax to get em to unlock it. I've NO idea what a bios in a computer is, or does.

Today we made a lil progress on the Bruder Mack conversion project, the mostly plastic one. I finished building the rear wheel assembly. Having done the 4 drive motor system on the Buder Liebherr 574 wheeled loader, I'm not a huge fan. 4 motors uses too much battery life REALLY quickly. That said, I decided that I'd modify the design a bit, & ONLY use 2 drive motors on this project.

Merry Christmas to all!

Norhtern Farmer, Thank-you sir. Yes, it's slowly coming together. It's like everything else I do, I CAN'T work on one project for too long, before I need to move on to something else fir a bit.

I took a video today of the Bruder D4 conversion plowing snow today. Once it FINALLY gets uploaded to YouTube, I'll have a link to it. The weather here has been reeking havoc with the internet connection today.

Here's the link to the video, as promised. It still has a few minutes before it'll be live.

GREAT news! My LHS knows a guy with cnc machines that does custom one of a kind RC parts fir a living. HOPEFULLY shortly after the newyear, I'll get a quote from him. I'm hoping to get the drive linkeage made as a solid piece. ONLY 1 grub screw to worry about working it's self loose that way. As is now, I have 4 to worry about, per side.

Your grub screws, file flat spots on the shafts & locktite the screws... drip the blue locktite on the threads & let dry before installing, creates more than enough resistance to hold & no worries breaking tools or stripping heads later to take apart again.

skeeter
12-25-2017, 08:05 PM
I tried that. I DON'T think the sidewalls are strong enough with the tubing I used. Where it meets the motor, that one screw is my problem child. It keeps coming loose, even with locktite! I've ordered thicker sidewall tubing. When it gets here, I'm going to try it out. If htat doesn't work, I'm thinking about trying to drill & tap threads into the motors shaft. Gives the grub screw a something to go into that way, & take a lil stress off of the tubing sidewalls. I'm not sure if I can even manage to drill & thread the motor shaft, with the basic hand tools that I have at my disposal.

ditchdigger
12-25-2017, 11:43 PM
Drilling thru shaft might weaken it too much. Instead you could add a 2nd set screw 60 degrees from original. Before threading, use the hole as a guide to drill a shallow holevinto shaft.

skeeter
12-25-2017, 11:49 PM
When the new tubing arrives, I will try the second grub screw idea. I think that may work, & work much gooder then the original idea I was thinking of using. Thanks fir that idea.

What gearmotors are you running in the bruder mack dump truck? I kinda like that setup for my crane hauler.

I've had better luck locking grubscrews with a drop on the seating end rather than threads. A little ends up in the threads anyway, but seems to hold the shaft better.

Feeling a bit under the weather the last few days. Thinking I'm getting the flu, or something. I felt good enough to tinker in the garage fir about an hour today, then back to laying down. I was able to make a lil progress on the Bruder Mack dump truck today. Sorry fir the crappy cell phone pics again. Just didn't feel like the hastle of bringing out the camera today, when I have one on the phone.

The frame is a lil different on this Mack, then the Bruder Mann that these 3D printed parts were made for. That being said, I have to improvise a bit to get them to work. Here's how I atached the rear bogey to the frame.

A quick question for those of you with a tad more experience building then I have.........If I were to use BRASS tubing, & ALUMINUM round stock inserted inside of it, will standard lead/tin solder work to adhere the 2 together. I'm looking to make joints to secure 2 pieces of brass tubing together. My thought was to insert 6mm alum stock into the brass tubing, so that it aligns as near perfectly as possible. I'm having trouble finding brass tubing that's the size I want, AND at the same time lengthy enough for what I want to do.

The aluminum can align your brass, but short of a TIG or Aluminum brazing sticks, nothing sticks to aluminum to anything. The brass to brass connection is only as strong as the solder, unless you stuff more brass rod in there.

Hit up a hardware store, Lowes, Menards, Homeless Depot... check their weldable metal section. You can usually find about 3' chunks of brass tube and rod stock. If you need an obsucre size or profile, try to find a Hobbytown?

There is a plethora of other 3D print parts there for this model.

Those lil tools are even cooler looking in person then they are looking at them on the website.

I'll be ordering some brass round stock that'll perfectly nest inside the brass tube. Strength in this project is crucial. I'll be assembling the headache rack that the trailer will rest on while it's stowed upon the trucks back. If it fails, the trailer will fall off. Falling off, ESPECIALLY under power, could potentially damage the truck AND/OR the trailer. I'd rather do it right the first time, then redo it, PLUS R+R damages.

Nice find, i hadn't gone down that rabbit hole yet.

If strength is that nessicary, i'd try to go as much solid as possible. Torch until about dull red, bend gently. If you need to change a bend, always reheat. Brass cold works fast and will break.

A while back, I found a 3D printed seat for the 4200XL. I made it, & found it needed re-sized a smidge to fit the driver figure. Using the Walking dead (amazons) still didn't quite fit it right. I re-sized it, & printed it again. I still have to fabricate something for the travel levers.

Today was a fairly productive day at my lil hobby assembly area, Hobby Central as roomies have nicknamed it. I started to make a lil progress on the New Bright tractor conversion. Got it all apart,& figured out what was staying, & what would be junked. The steering propulsion system was removed. The drive motor, & gearbox are staying.

The red drawing line in this snap is where I trimmed excess cr@p out of the machines gearbox. There was a smoke generator machine in the rig, but it didn't function. Since it didn't function, there ISN'T any reason to have the box that drove the air pump for it!

The area in white doodle was completely removed. Also some areas below it were extracted from the chassis.

I thought about just using double sided sticky tape to hold the servo in palace. I decided against that, & used some styrene to build a bracket to hold the servo in. I did this because I've NOT had good luck with my double sided sticky tape keeping things stuck in place lately.

Not only did the ESC go up in a lil poof of smoke, I managed to melt the power wires this go round.

I REALLY wanted to get the dump controls done FIRST, as I think this will be the most important, AND crucial of all the electronics. So far, it's been the most difficult to get working too.

Since I failed to get the dump electronics functioning today, I got the drive components working. That ESC went in smoothly, & functions properly. Here's a lil vid of the truck (FINALLY, after all these months!) driving on it's own power.
https://youtu.be/7Gf_7tIdtTc
I didn't have the steering servo hooked up, so steering wasn't an option, YET. I have previously tested the steering servo, & know that it functions, so I wasn't too worried about it for now.

The garage floor was wet in this video. I had just finished working on my personal vehicle a few hours prior to taking this video.

Quick tip with Chinesieum escs that have no instructions:
First figure out what type connectors it has installed. Find out what the connector standard is for battery, so if battery has a female then the esc hookup is male. The esc output to motor should be same as on a battery to follow power flow.

So on my cheap 20a if i want to run a deans on all my battery, i can cut the female jst and some wire off the esc, solder on a deans male, then the off-cut Female wires can slap onto the motor and it's now really easy to swap if stuff goes bad.

skeeter
01-19-2018, 02:38 PM
I'll have to get some pictures of it today. I don't recall dealing with this style of connectors before. Perhaps you can identify what type it is, & what one needs the battery infeed connected to it.

On this try I used the opposite wires from last time. However, I think I may have had too much battery the first try. I no longer have use in my stuff for the 6S battery I have. I thought it may be handy to keep near the bench, & use as a testing battery. I think I may have had the wires right the first time, but overpowered the ESC. I don't know fir sure. I really struggle with electronics.

:bounce: Tonight I finished the Bruder Mack dump truck conversion. :D I wanted to use a small 10A speed controller, so I could hide it inside the hydraulic tank. Since I've now fried 3  of them cheapo ESC units, I used a larger ESC unit. I used the same cheap unit that I used for the drive motors. The down side, I had to cut out the passenger side seat, :( to have a place to put that unit. I placed approximately 12# of BB's in the dump box to test it out. It dumped it with no problems. :D Here's a couple videos of the finished product.:)

The Rural King toy clearance mentioned above is good.
I missed out on any bruder stuff, but i got a tonka chevy dumptruck for under $5, and an Ertl bigfarm pete semi with flatbed for under $13.

6S can let smoke out of a LOT of stuff.

Those look like mini JST. check out either my vw, fiero, subaru, econoline where i use that same 20a red esc with brake.
The male plug coming off board goes to motor.
The female coming off board goes to battery.

Double check me though
Hold it 4 big ic and switch up, wires toward you. Left to right:
3 to rx. 2 black switch. Red to Batt. red & black motor. Blacb to Batt

Frizzy, as ALWAYS, thanks fir your help. I'll try it again tomorrow, & see if I can get one of them installed in the New Bright tractor conversion. IF I can get one to work in it, WITHOUT frying, I will be able to complete that build. I MUST have a small ESC in it. The BIG ones that I used on the Bruder conversion WON'T work in it. There ain't enough room to fit er in there.

You aren’t alone! I’ve fried a few of those too before I got it right. I ended up figuring it out doing just as frizzen suggested. I found an old receiver 4 AA pack that had the correct plug and went from there.lol Very frustrating when it takes weeks to get more of them though.

Now I have everything needed to finished the New Bright tractor conversion. :)
This one cost 3 times:eek: the cheapo Chinese ones, BUT it came WITH instructions. Not that I need them for it, as it's CLEARLY labeled what wires go where! Seeing as I've fried 3 of the cheapo type on the Bruder Mack build, I think I will abandon the cheapo Chinese ones, & go this way from now on! I just re-ordered 3 more of these lil gems. Now off to hobby central I go, so I can FINALLY complete the tractor build! :D

:( Well POOP! I just finished tinkerin in the garage. The ESC I bought on Evilbay ONLY has a forward function. I spent a bit trying to figure out hoe to calibrate it to the radio. Once I FINALLY figured out how to calibrate it, I tried to run it a bit. After getting it all put together, & bothering to get the camcorder out, I finally realized my mistake. I just ordered a different ESC that has Forward, & REVERSE capabilities. Soon as it gets here, I will install it in the tractor & get er did!

Frizzy, you sir were correct about the connections on the cheapo ESC's.:) I fried one more even with it hooked up correctly, AND only hooked up to a 7.2V NMH battery pack, while trying to get the New Bright tractor conversion finished. :( It now has FWD, & REV functions. Here's a lil video of testing it out.

Really sucks to back it. It's even worse then backing up the millennium style dump trailers, as the tongue is SO short on this wagon. The video was shot in the TURBO gear for moving down the roadways from field to field. I didn't get video of it driving in the farming gear. The bad part, the gear selector is on the rear of the tractor, just above the 3point hitch. There isn't enough room for me to figure a way to servo activate it. Guess lil skeeter will have to get off the tractor every time it's necessary to change from farming mode to get er done mode(s).

Those are the pins that keep the drive sprocket connected to the motors. I started to replace the motors today.:) I found that (I was fairly warned this may happen) the motor mounts needs the motor hole enlarged to fit the upgrade motors. I spent over an hour with the Dremmel tool trying to do one side of it. :jaw: I only got about half way done with it. I realized I needed help. Having heard the owner of the LHS talking about a guy they know that does custom machine work fir them, I called them. I dropped off the motor mounts so they can resize the motor holes fir me. HOPEFULLY they get er did faster then the 3-4 weeks I was quoted

Well, I tried to make a lil progress on the Weyerhaeuser logging truck yesterday. :) I found a sketch fir a Peerless headache rack that I would like to scale to size. When I scale it out, the size of it on the computer screen, I watch it change size(s). When I try to print it the size on the paper DOESN'T change. I took it to the FedEx Kinko's yesterday to have them give it a go. I brought the original printing, AND a thumb drive with the original picture on it. I told them what sizes I wanted to enlarge it to & asked if they wanted the thumb drive, OR the already printed version. They declined the thumb drive option, & took the printing behind the counter. I was thinking possibly they have a different copier machine then I've seen before. They would have to in order to be able to enlarge the picture by, (just throwing out a few #'s fir an axample) 125% top to bottom, & lets say 130% side to side. They ran a couple of different prints, & brought them to me, with a ruler. I measured them, & neither was what I told them I wanted. On was close enough to the right height, :D but WAY too wide. :( When I told the gal that neither would work, & what I needed to have happen, she said they COULDN'T do that. :cop: I'm NOT too tech qualified, but I could have told them that a copy machine WOULD'T get the dimensions that I needed. I thought they were a print shop! Shouldn't a print shop know how to take a thumb drive with a picture on it, & manipulate it to the dimensions that a customer requests?

The HobbyCo bankruptcy has really messed EVERYTHING up! I went to the LHS today to try & acquire some square brass tubing, brass sheets, brass "C" Channels, as well as some more brass tubing. I need to acquire this stuff fir the Weyerhaeuser log truck build. I'm on a first name basis with the LHS owner. We talked fir several minute today about the bankruptcy, & how it's affecting the hobby supplies. He CAN;T order K+S brass stock no more. His supply chain was through a HobbiCo Company, Great Planes. Since K+S WON'T ship to Great Planes fir now, he'd have to place an order of at LEAST $1,000.oo to place an order directly with K+S. Even some parts fir RC trucks, & cars he's NOT able to order. Even Tacoma RC Raceways (The other LHS that has the indoor track, AND hosts the National Indoor Series of races) is having troubles finding parts. I guess that tomorrow, after work, I'll have to hit Evilbay, &/or Amazon to try & scrounge up enough materials that I can get started on this build. I tried Home Dumpster, & Lowes today, but they DON'T have brass stock that is as small as I am needing.

Hydraulic help needed. I plan to build another dump truck, but this one will have hydraulics to dump it. I don't know a lot about hydraulic units. If I run the Hydraulic pump from an ESC, (Obviously we have to) do I need a valve to make the box operate, or can I just run the pump fwd/rev to control dump hoist up/down?

IF I must use a valve, I was thinking about this one.

FRIZZY THANK-YOU sir for teaching me how to think OUTSIDE the box. :) Before I found that, I had tried EVERY source I can think of to acquire this stuff. Either it was way too large diameter wise, or had WAY too much slop (like 1/4 of an inch) when the pieces were inserted together. I had been to Metal Supermarkets as well as Onlinemetals.com (they have a branch near enough to me I drove there in person) Evilbay, ALL 8 of the LHS, from Hobby Lobby, to the small mom & pop ones, & even the arts & craft stores in the area..............NOBODY had it

Change in plans! :cop:I know that I said the New Bright fire engine would be the next project, BUT.....The Facebook group Pacific Northwest Scale Truck & Equipment (PNWSTE is hosting the next gathering on 3-10-18. There AREN'T any dozers but my lil Bruder D4 conversion. :o I'll be putting the Bruder D11 dozer at the top of the project list. I need to get it done for the meet. :D The D4 just isn't big enough to keep up with my 4200XL, now that I got er going again, let alone the OTHER 4200XL that'll be there too!:jaw: The other one has been extensively modified, painted, and transformed into a Link Belt machine.

I've got a couple ideas how/what to do for converting this...............but they'll have to wait for another month or two. I HAVEN'T forgotten about the Subaru WRX, just had other projects in the works.

Sounds like you've been busy!
The excavators looking good with the better motors.

Come on, now you're just trying to flatter me. I just like poking you to work on stuff and not be afraid to try doing weird things with it. Very few here build straight kits, or leave them stock for long, so it takes some extra creativity. It's a little more fun to see what was scrounged to look and work right than seeing an unboxing pic. "If it's stupid, but it works, it's not stupid"

You set up a meet, and arranged a venue to let everybody go play and be entertaining, that's way more impressive than 'some guy on the internet said i should do a fire truck.'

Yeah, free the WRC! Ya know, that's a really nice looking Impreza...
I'd probably suggest doing the subaru before moving on to the ladder truck, since there's gonna a lot less going on in the scooby.

We've been moderately busy. On these cold days, it is sometimes hard to get motivated to go out to the cold shop & get cracking at all those projects.

I'm excited for the meet to run the new motors in that machine. I HOPE the weather cooperates for us. Right now the ground here is frozen. I haven't even had a change to try out the new motors............YET.

I CAN'T take ALL teh credit for organizing the events. All I did was host the first event at my place. The 3 of us that were there decided it'd be awesome to have a group of folks with similar interests get together monthly for RC Construction, & trucking fun!
The Subaru is easy peezy, compared to the firetruck. It'll not much different then doing the New Bright tractor conversion.

As IF I needed to undertake MORE projects:rolleyes:.................I saw this on one of the FB pages. I dig it! I searched for one, but was having troubles finding it. I FINALLY broke down & asked the builder where she go it from. She was nice enough to send links to it, & I bought it. Since PAPE machinery controls the CAT dealerships in the PNW (IDK about other areas, they might there too) & their trucks are all white, I plan to paint it white, & slap some PAPE logo's on it. I'll have to cut the umbilical cord off this one as well. Should be an easy conversion, I HOPE!

While I was at Fred Meyer the other day, I found these. Thinking outside the box, they may work well for trailer umbilical lines. At $o.99 each, if they DON'T work as I think they would, I have something to help repel those dam mosquitoes this summer:cool:

:cop: Those lead strips are ONLY there to prevent stuff from going where I DON'T want it to go. I plan to take epoxy, a ziplock bag, & BB's to made weigh for the dozer. Since I have some bolts that hold the track assemblies on it, I MAY at some point need to remove the weights to access them bolts :D Once I get the weight for the front half completed, I'll move ALL them strips to the rear of the machine, where they will remain. There's some bolts at the rear too, that I may need to access in the future. If I just molded the weight WITHOUT those strips back there, it WOULDN'T be good.:p The weight would mold into such a shape that removal of it to access said bolts would be almost, if not impossible to do. Once the weather warms up a lil more (Currently 32 degrees here...............Epoxy directions say for use at 50 degrees & above) I'll get the weights made for it.

The Bruder D11 conversion isn't going together the way I saw it in my head. :o I had to rethink the drive sprocket extensions. I needed a thicker sidewall on the pipe sp that the set screws had more surface area to grab onto. The originals stripped out WITHOUT even pushing anything. I found that out when I drove it on the garage floor for about 10 minutes. Here's a shot of the old version side by side with the new design. I had COULDN'T find the right size ID of this pipe, so I had to drill out the center so that it would fit over the existing motor stub, & extension stubs.

When I tried to place the thing together with a battery inside it, I realized I had an problem. :o There wasn't enough room & it wouldn't allow the top to snap onto it. So I threw away the weights that I had cast for it, & started over. A few 20, 26, 12, & 8 ounce teardrop Sturgeon fishing weights, & a lil time with the BFH to reshape them, & here's what I now have.

For those pondering about a Bruder D5 conversion..........................Here's a neat lil trick to prevent the drive sprockets from slipping. I took a Zip Tie, & made the sprocket teeth longer. I used a hand saw to cut grooves into the sprocket teeth. Then I inserted the small pieces that I had cut from the Zip Tie into them, & super glued them in place. I haven't tried it out.....YET! I will try it out another day, after the glue has a chance to thoroughly dry. I WISH I could take credit for this idea! I seen it somewhere else, & CAN'T remember where.

The method I posted above for eliminating the Bruder drive sprocket from slipping inside the tracks, seems to work well. I got a chance to try it out for a few minutes the other day. There was no track slippage to report. Time will tell how well they are going to hold up to continued usage.

It's ALIVE! FINALLY! this thing took a LOT of thinking, rethinking, trial & errors, but it's finally operatable. Although it's plastic, it's still functional. I LOVE the Bruder D5 conversion that I did. Even though it was plastic, it's still al lil workhorse. If this thang is as much of a workhorse as that one is I'll be very happy with it!

The weather here in WA state today is dreary wet & raining. I was hoping to take er out to the dirt today & see how well it would do. Due to weather this lil teaser video inside the workshop will have to suffice for now.

Ontop of all the work goign on in RC Land, I mae a lil progress on the loggin truck. I bought the back bumper plate from Reg. The Pintle hitch was from Garden Trucking. I still have to mount the safety chains for it. The empty holes are for more red lights. It came with 2 clear & 2 red lights. I removed the clear ones in favor of more tail lights. This will EVENTUALLY be a PNW style logging truck. Much like Lou has built. For now the 5th wheel plate will stay on, & it'll pull a hyrack style log trailer.

I really like that lil Mack truck. I'll like the next one even better. I'll be doing a Super Dump on a Tamiya chassis, with an identical Mack cab. The 4200XL diggin virgin ground in RCland. The previoes time I used er, dropped it while storing it. The boom was stored in the same manner it would be if she was being hauled on a lowbed trailer. Due to that she landed just right on the bucket curl cylinder that it sprung a leak when I applied hydraulic pressure to make the bucket curl. Sorry it's a short video because of that!

Some recent pics of the Weyerhaeuser loggin truck. Eventually this will lose this style of trailer, & have a trailer similar to the one that TnTLou has behind his logging truck. For now, it functions as is.

Recently my first sponsor package arrived me. Here are some pics of it in use.

I needed a metal 5th wheel hitch for pulling the water trailer in RCland, so I got a Hercules metal 5th wheel. Also I thought that the tractor was a little too fast, so I got a Hercules 2 to one gear reduction transfer case to go on the truck. While doing all that, I thought I'd try out some new shoes on the truck. All this is in preparation for the upcoming PNWSTE club gathering on Sunday July 15th. ANYONE in the Pacific Northwest area, that's interested in attending is welcome. The event will be held in Kent Washington from 9am to around 2PM (OR whenever people get tired & go home).

Sorry, I boogered the groups name in my original post. It SUPPOSED to have been PNWSTE, but my fat short, stubby lil fingers somehow forgot to add the "E" to the end of it

That build is done. That's the Weyerhaeuser logging truck. I FINALLY got around to doing some much needed upgrades to er.

PNWSTE meets are great fun. Even when they are hosted at places other than my backyard. It's always great fun to see other people's equipment, & truck hard at work.

My buddies shure were a BIG part of that project! Raph spent a vast portion of that meet loading material with his RC4WD 4200XL, into his side dump & dumping it over that edge. Steven, & Chris were big players in that project too. I try to keep my vids around 2ish minutes in length. There are others that helped with it, but I'd have a20-30 minute video. Rather than a long vieo like that, I prefer to edit em down, & post a few smaller vids.

I know me personally I can't watch a video for more than 3-4 minutes before I have to start skipping forward.

RCland now has 3 grizzlies for the mining operation. It ALL started with the yellow grizz that has openings of 3/8 inches. Then the Orange one came along with openings of 1/2 inch, & the John Deer green one rounds it out with openings of 1/4 inches between the grizz bars

No work for me since Monday night! :( With the operating engineers Local 320 being on strike, we are locked out of work. Having the past few days off, I spent some time under the welding hood. I made another grizzly, JD Yellow one that has the Cat Yellow grizz near it.

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1876/30347475228_371551aa10_z.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/NeGK6w)reatining walls2 (https://flic.kr/p/NeGK6w) by Anthony Kalnoski (https://www.flickr.com/photos/157093418@N06/), on Flickr

Also I made a few retaining walls from 16 gauge steel. I used pipe to weld to them, them pounded rebar into the ground through the pipe, to hold em in place.
https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1847/43309272985_13fb8c0cba_z.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/28Z6kZc)reatining walls1 (https://flic.kr/p/28Z6kZc) by Anthony Kalnoski (https://www.flickr.com/photos/157093418@N06/), on Flickr

Here we see the retaining walls in the background that are to be used for keeping the grizzly materials separated, BEFORE they were painted & unstaled.
https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1836/42407120090_b177a5d67c_z.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/27BnzmW)reatining walls5 (https://flic.kr/p/27BnzmW) by Anthony Kalnoski (https://www.flickr.com/photos/157093418@N06/), on Flickr

I had previously used scale Eco Blocks to hold things together. They work OK, but don't hold up if/when stepped on. Having time, I made some retaining walls of 14 gauge steel to place behind them.
https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1882/43309272905_c0a31a61ff_z.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/28Z6kXP)reatining walls3 (https://flic.kr/p/28Z6kXP) by Anthony Kalnoski (https://www.flickr.com/photos/157093418@N06/), on Flickr

With all them grizzlies, I needed more room to store the finished products. I expanded RCland a bit to make an area for them. In this pic the new area isn't yet finished, but is roughed in with retaining walls, & rough filled with sand to bring it to the desired height.
https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1831/30347475018_f6311e60a3_z.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/NeGK2U)reatining walls6 (https://flic.kr/p/NeGK2U) by Anthony Kalnoski (https://www.flickr.com/photos/157093418@N06/), on Flickr

Tomorrow, I hope to get the remaining retaining wall made for the grizzly, as well as finish a fe wmore retaining walls. The area that already has Eco Blocks holding it back will get dismantled. I will install retaining walls, then replace the Eco Blocks in front of those walls. This way if it's accidently stepped on, it doesn't just all fall apart. At least the steel retaining walls will still hold it together if the Eco Blocks are knocked over.

The latest project to hit my workbench! A friend saw my tracekd loader conversion & asked me to do one for him. I, at first decliend, & said I needed time to test out the one that I had made myself BEFORE I'd feel comfortable doing another one. I needed to make sure that the thang was in proper working order before I made them for anyone! I feel that after 40+ hours (that translates to around 600 scale hours) on the lil machine I feel comfortable enough to convert his for him.

The weather tomorrow make sit so I get a 3day weekend. I'll be out in the garage tomorrow tinkering. Hopefully I'll have some pics of to add here. In the mean time, here's this weeks PNWSTE weekly video update.

We worked late to finish mineing out this mine site. The NEW mine site needed this excavation to be completed BEFORE it could open. The new mines roadway would run right through the area that we were digging in this video................Enough babble from me, Here's the video.

I placed an order on Amazon this weekend. :) I decided that I needed a comfortable chair to replace the metal folding chair I had been using as a desk chair. :bounce: That metal chair wasn't too comfortable for the hours I spent at the desk working on editing & preparing PNWSTE videos. I think my new chair.............although NOT the Clutch brand that I fell in love with, will serve me well.

Here's the box as it showed up at my doorstep tonight.

Looks like there's been a ton more equipment coming into the group.

If you're gonna do christmas videos, maybe find some where the operators look at least a little cold? (Not a guy in shorts)

Maybe one where they Dig scale 'presents' out of soft dirt, load into dumptruck? Find the presents with the grizzleys? Santa with a hardhat or scale operator with santa hat?

(Frizzen sure throws a lot of stones for how many videos he's uploaded...)

Yes sir there has been a huge influx of new equipment. We were truck rich & equipment poor. Now we are slightly truck poor fo rthe amount of equipment we have. That's a good problem to have :)

That guy always wears shorts. He wore shorts in February when the 3 original PNWSTE members first met. It was a cold day (Cold for us in the PNW area.) that day.

We did the PNWSTE scavenger hunt with the machines . That is planned to be repeated yearly for the group.

I think I need to try & find a scale santa. I LOVE that idea! I just may know someone that can make a santa hat for one of the operators. I'll have to see if they are interested in making anything that small. That'd be awesome to do.

I made some improvements to RCland the last few weeks. With the addition of the Faroe loader, the bunker area needed modified. The old area worked GREAT for the Bruder tracked loader conversion, :D that has a ZERO turn radius. The Faroe loader needed a bit more room to be able to maneuver. Where the Eco blocks are on the LHS of the pic, that's where the area use to end. I relocated the road a bit so I could do this.
https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7843/39643024943_0508b8d4a2_z.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/23p7Sb4)unnamed (https://flic.kr/p/23p7Sb4) by Anthony Kalnoski (https://www.flickr.com/photos/157093418@N06/), on Flickr

The OLD grizzly system was too small for the Faroe loader!:( It was alright height wise at the entryway, but the rear was a lil too short.:( Additionally, the old grizz wasn't wide enough. Every time the loader would feed the grizz, materials would fall over the side(s).:( I HAD to make a new grizz. The new grizzly does tricks too. New grizz is half again as wide, & half again as deep, with openings between the bars TWICE as big as the old version!:bounce:

Since I'm no mathematician, I had to draw the design out, BEFORE I could order material to go farther.:o Once it was drawn out, then I could figure out how many grizzly bars I needed to make er happen.
https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4908/39643025043_8cde891c74_z.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/23p7ScM)New grizzly (https://flic.kr/p/23p7ScM) by Anthony Kalnoski (https://www.flickr.com/photos/157093418@N06/), on Flickr

Once the grizz was put into place, I decided that the hoe tha usually feeds the grizz needed to sit above the plant. :jaw:This way WAY bigger loader could enter the plant to keep er cleaned out. The hoe was sitting on the floor level, & slightly protruding past the grizz entryway. I guess I need to make a retaining wall to make this new vision come to life!
https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4888/32734118498_9136dfb08c_z.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/RSAUZq)New Grizz2 (https://flic.kr/p/RSAUZq) by Anthony Kalnoski (https://www.flickr.com/photos/157093418@N06/), on Flickr

Now the hoe has a place to sit near the grizz, without being in the way of the BIG loader! I figure the hoe can feed, PLUS the loader has access the unsupported slope of the pile. That way the loader can help feed the grizz too!

The new grizz will be the ONLY grizz in this processing plant! Bye Bye to the other 2 grizzlies that use to sit next to the primary one!:jaw: Now we just gotta work on getting a vibrating screen deck. HOPEFULLY if all goes well, we'll have a screener to farther separate the materials. Of course with a screen deck comes conveyors.............................This simple lil redesign of the Grizzly area just turned into a MAJOR project!

How is the newloader? Lockong diffs?

I LOVE that loader! So far it's proven to be a real work horse. :) In 2 hours of hard work it got more material through the grizzly than the excavator is able to feed in a 6 hour shift! The Pacific Northwest weather hasn't been too friendly to RC machines lately. :( As soon as the weather quits raining, & dries out a for a few days in a row, I'll have er back in the mine site producing more material.

The loader has open diffs. I sometimes wish they were locked, but I know that would mean an even bigger turning radius. Having previously had ONLY the Bruder tracked loader to work with, turning radius WASN'T a problem when the production area was originally laid out! With zero turning radius things were laid out close together to make for less unnecessary travel distance.

I've ONLY got around 4 hours of runtime on the machine so far. as we add more hours to that count, time will tell if this machine is durable & long lasting as hoped.

I'd been having a urge to have some RC fun for the entire month! Keeping an eye on the weather reports, the time FINALLY came. We were all set to have a couple of dry days in a row. On December 15th, 2018 PNWSTE had its final gathering of the year. It was a last minute impromptu gathering. The phone calls started going out Thursday evening for a Saturday morning gathering. Since it was so short of notice we only had a handful that could make it to the meet.

In this weeks PNWSTE video, a friend of mine is operating my RC4WD 4200XL excavator. The other 4200XL was recently acquired used by a PNW member. He LOVES his machine. I was busy running other stuff, & passed the remote so all could have fun.
