Hello everyone. For all those that are interested I decided to start a build thread of the loader kit.

https://postimg.org/image/vizdr8v5x/]https://s18.postimg.org/vizdr8v5x/L574.jpg

For those that want to watch here is the un-boxing video I did: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ki0_S0Dvq6s&t=336s

I'm going to paint this model first. I don't really want to build the entire model only to have to tear it back down and deal with the hydraulics a second time.

I will post another up-date when I figure out how to post pics. Stay tuned.

Here are some raw picks of the front fenders and one of the side fairings. Items are plastic and had a coat of primer on arrival. The leading edge of the front fenders needed to be straightened, I did this with a sanding block and 320 grit paper. Didn't take much sanding.

One of the side fairings was a little rough inside. I touched it up a bit, but Frankly nobody is really going to see it. Its a piece of heavy equipment, so I don't expect it to look perfect. and hopefully the inside of the fenders will be caked in dirt a decent amount of the time.

I grew tired of looking for the correct Liebherr paint, so I started looking for other options. I decided to go to Tractor Supply and take a look at what they had. I ran into this stuff here:

https://s18.postimg.org/3koxhx9yd/massey_gray.jpg (https://postimg.org/image/3koxhx9yd/)

Rustoleum farm & implement in Massey Ferguson gray. I think this color will be a very close match to the correct Liebherr gray.
I have already painted both side fairings, front fenders, bucket and rear main chassis.

I like this paint and it seems to cover equally well on metal and plastic.

Stay tuned and thanks for watching. More pics to come soon.

I saw this on FB, & watched the vid, as well as subscribed to your chanel. I'm glad you found your way here with this project. I like that there ISN'T drama here, VS that social media forum! I'm anxiously watching this build.

Now a moment of silence for Steve Ingraham (IHBuilder/IHB scale models)

I never got the opportunity to meet Steve in person, but I know his family will miss him. I know us folks here @ rctruckandconstruction will miss him and his talents.

Finding the proper Liebherr paint is proving to be a P.I.T.A. In place of the Liebherr red-orange I decided to use Dupicolor engine enamel in chevy red-orange.
https://postimg.org/image/jmcckmdid/]https://s18.postimg.org/jmcckmdid/7141304_dpl_de1607_pri_larg.jpg

I already painted the bucket lift arms and the main engine cowling. More pics to follow as soon as the paint cures. I think this color is going to work great. Thanks for watching !!

Great looking kit. I've studied the build manual, proffessional step by step drawings, I can see they have but some hours into this.

From what I see, the hydraulic tank is built-in to the rear frame. Is it a fully welded tank, or there are some gaskets?
you might have control of it, but anyway; it is suggested to use thread lock on all hydraulic niples, as Loctite 542. It's actually great that it comes in a kit form, then one can take the time to mount the hydraulics better than chineese assembly line workers, that usually are in a big hurry.

in response to rimrock: the rear section of the frame is the hydraulic tank. it appears to be welded and hopefully pressure tested.

here are some early build pics. 1st up: axle mount:
https://postimg.org/image/fyi1b51dx/]https://s18.postimg.org/fyi1b51dx/20180227_174622.jpg

The axle mount rides on two flanged bearings and a nice pivot pin, everything is retained with an e-clip.

The hydraulic pump was not assembled properly, I had to re-clock the pump motor. It was a simple operation. I removed 4 bolts, rotated the housing 90 degrees and put the bolts back in.

The bolts in question: https://postimg.org/image/raumt02dx/]https://s18.postimg.org/raumt02dx/20180227_182458.jpg

Here is a shot of the transmission: https://postimg.org/image/ogrhfjks5/]https://s18.postimg.org/ogrhfjks5/20180227_185210.jpg

The holes in the transmission did not line up, I had to run a drill bit through them and finish with a file. I have to say, I wish the mounting bolts for the transmission were spaced out a bit. I think it would be a more stable mount. just my opinion.
I don't want to sound like I'm bashing Lesu to bad here. Some minor issues are to be expected with a new model and these issues are nothing a decent modeler can't handle.

I do have a gripe here: Lesu did not include the procedure for mounting the motor to the transmission In the assembly manual. I was able to figure it out, but other people may not be as lucky. Hopefully they will include a flyer in the box in the future or update the assembly manual.

Although the drive motor has a D-shaped pinion shaft the pinion doesn't have same D-shape. The pinion is a press fit more or less and does not have a set screw.

On the plus side the transmission had plenty of grease in it and operated smoothly.

Here is a pic of the motor\transmission assembly: https://postimg.org/image/3wmnh1plh/]https://s18.postimg.org/3wmnh1plh/20180227_181233.jpg

That is strange there is no setscrew on that pinion gear! Did you use some 603 loctite or anything for a little extra grip?

Is the metal parts steel or aluminum?

Any ABS bushings in the hinge points?

I'll be anxiously awaiting to see how well you like this setup! I've got the same thing in a Tamiya frame waiting for me to finish building it. I wonder if it'll be strong enough to hold up to the weight of a superdump?

Table Top Trucker
03-07-2018, 12:11 PM
scotty k: I heated the pinion with a heat gun and put the motor in the fridge. I slipped the hot pinion on the cold shaft and got an interference fit. I need to contact Lesu and get the specs of the pinion.

Lil Giant: the metal parts are aluminum, unfortunately no bushing at the pivot point. I find it weird that they did this considering they used flanged bearings for the axle pivot !!

once the pivots wear out I will drill them out and put in flanged bearings.

The kit came with 5 Tower Pro servos, I wasn't feelin' it. I decided to run Spektrum servos, part # h3050. these servos are sub-micro heli servos.

Hi

Nice build log thanks for sharing.
I too would swap out the tower pro for another servo they are not bad just would not use them in a valve block so now what you mean by saying not feeling it :)

Cat966c; sorry it took so long to get back to you. Tire diameter is about 4.2 inch O.D.

hope that helps.

Hey Cat996, don't quote me but I think the wheels/tires can be ordered through Lesu. I know for a fact that the loader axles and a pass-through version of the loader axles are avail. for purchase. The fact that they have a pass-through version makes me think they have an ADT in the works.

the hydraulic lines need to be trimmed and connected, I also need to run the lines between the valve assembly and the hydraulic pump.

If anybody has any tips for bleeding the air out of the system please speak up.

anybody know where i can find some kind of one-way tank vent. I don't want my hydraulic fluid spilling out if Im @ a weird angle.

Regarding the tank-vent one usually just go for a bit longer hose, with the end placed at a higher point under the hood

scottyk
04-03-2018, 12:30 PM
As temperature in the system goes up and down you will want the tank to vent both directions so I don't think you would want a check valve in there. I know some full size vents will be ran into a seperate vented/filtered overflow tank

Stuart

Great job on the build and thanks for the pics.
Fumotec sells this vent filter: Vent (http://www.fumotec-shop.de/hydraulik/zubehoer/allgemeines-hydraulik-zubehoer/entlueftungsfilter-m5.php)

As for bleeding the system, I just fill it with oil and cycle the cylinders with the pump running at slow speed, keep topping up the oil as needed and cycle cylinders until all the air is out.
