I said yep, what a concept. I could use a little fuel myself...

Greenlight collectables, they've been out long enough to have several series of releases.

Scale is only 1/18, but the detailing is amazing, especially at $10 per pump. The nozzles are removable with rubber hose, all the decals are legible. The wayne has a rotating part where the fuel hose exits. Would not be easy to make the lights work.

Just needs some fake concrete pads to set the pumps, maybe a little roof over them, simple building, and a logo sign to put by the road.

Those look prety near scale when sitting next to your vroom vroomms.

Buy some pumps, and make metal edged concrete pads to sit them on... they still look kinda lonely.

Good thing it's too cold to want to drag the tablesaw outside, and too rainy to buy sheetgoods.

What about my off-highway equipment? It needs fuel too.

I love this idea! I just may have to borrow this in the future for RCland.

Go for it! I stole the idea off a guys static model diorama over on scale4x4.

The barrel was a container of "toxic slime", i think they had black and grey. The wood was split out of bamboo skewers using a utility knife blade as a froe. Some dabs of CA where it looked about right. Made this so it can hold barrel on either top of posts, or resting on the upper braces.

Top of posts were trimmed to get one side lower to have a sump area in barrel. Also 1 side is closer to vertical and the top is short enough a bruder Linde h30 forklift could be used to install it...

Still needs a fuel hose and handle. Can't decide if i like new wood, or want to weather it. Might look good with some gas station logo, or maybe 'Diesel' / 'Gas' lettering.

That's cool! Another fuel source at the Lebanon Show this next week! Lol

Need to tilt your barrel the other direction. The end with the bungs should be slightly higher so that condensation water and any dirt that gets in wont flow right out the hose and into your equipment fuel tank.

If i were to build a proper gas station, how TALL would the canopy over the pumps need to be to avoid issues with Semi trailers or trucks with a wind deflector over the cab?

Also similar question for garage doors, even though i'd doubt your semi would actually hit up my place for Maintenance.

I'd rather not have to setup a pipe arch at the enterance to ward off over-height vehicles. Kinda don't want it getting knocked off the foundation until there's atleast a fire department to handle that kaboom.

:):cop::D:cool: You've been doin some  again. I LOVE the idea of a proper fuel station for trucks.

I *might* have seen an old gas station that really did it for me, and i've been watching enough Flighttest that i think it would be fun to build it in foamboard. It might be from a brand that i thought went extinct, but actually still has 3 locations in my state. Big downside is the Greenlight fuel pumps i started the thread with don't come in their livery.

Maybe it's only going to be more car-sized instead of truck stop, and that's ok too. Might encourage a few more car drivers at the meets, there's already several driving smaller stuff like Tonka, Bruder, Nylint...

I can scale the lanes and garage door widths off my ALF, but pretty sure my engine is shorter than your trucks are at the stacks.

Norwegian gas stations almost always has the truck fuel pumps off to the side instead of trying to fit trucks under the canopy. Would something like that be an option?

That's a really good idea.
Plus it would be easier to just not worry (yet) about making the big canopy, or its support columns. Spectators could see stuff better, and i wouldn't need lighting under it, or have it make me feel the desire for doing lighted marquis signs...

That simplifies my overly-ambitious plan to a 2-part building, a fueling-area, and some islands along the street. Maybe a base plate. Huh, this still doesn't sound 'simple'.

Picked up some sheets of 'Foam Board' or 'Foam Core' (depending who you talk to) from a dollar store. Then i hit those with some blades, slopped some hot glue around.

This is based loosely on a station in Greensburg, IN. It's not accurately scaled, just inspired.

I have this as a seperate Station and Garage building, garage can be placed on or left off as needed.

Very nice start. I never thought of using foam board for buildings.

I came across the foamboard idea on an adam savage video, apparently thats one of the materials architects use to model larger buildings.

The Sinclair station is going slowly. I still don't have signs, or the dinosaur, the concrete islands are still in work.

But it's a nice day, so more pics.

Frizzy, I absolutely LOVE the idea of foam houses! I love it so much, I'm going to abandoned building them out of concrete, for PNWSTE's city. Thanks for an inspiring idea, as always.

Thanks skeeter!
Concrete houses, now ya got me thinking maybe ya could try scale Structural Insulated Panels?

I'm not going to pretend they'll be as strong or even make any claims about being durable, but they will be cheaper and easier than just about anything. The boards are known to warp or curl if they get too wet. Its paper over foam so make sure your crew gets paid, or that you're there to film the Killdozer action!

It's simply a stack of foamboard (DollarTree), some hotglue(cheapest gun at Lowes). Then just attack it using a snapknife (harborfreight free), straight edge, square, and a childlike concept of what buildings look like. Clear plastic packing trash for windows, if ya get around to it. I wouldn't even worry about trying for properly scaled, a 2,000 sqft house is over 142sqft!

They make White or Black boards. I was thinking about trying some contact paper over the outsides, or lightly drawing on masonry lines, siding lines... i dunno, it's your world, do whatever feels right. Build 2 because everybody needs a friend. Maybe it needs happy clouds.

If you want a city in a hurry, have all the supplies ready to go for a build day. Make the pnwste guys build one while they charge batteries.

For a Single story building scale is pretty easy, hold it like a landscape picture, measure 1/2 top to bottom, cut. If ya like 2 story building, it's ready to rock. Measure a real door, or scale it to action figures.
I like to score & snap like drywall, but if you have a good cutting mat then several cuts through is cleaner but slightly harder on blades. I've been throwing corner braces in for strength and it helps hold angles until the glue sets. Corner braces also help locate flat roofs, and especially add strength if you don't bother with a floor and want to keep the roof removable.

The foam plane builders have a TON of build tricks to steal. You can do cool stuff with them like back-cut both insides of corners at 45 deg so there's no seam on outside. Blunted knife tip keeps you from cutting bottom paper. Peel 1 side paper off for making it into complex curves. The more you can box or triangulate, the stronger it gets.

Part of my idea was from another thread where Frank mentioned having a really cool automated cutting machine that could possibly quickly knock out buildings in hardboard or 1/4" ply. So i make a couple quick&dirty things to test scale, then maybe see if he'd like to fabricate per example...

Hoping to get to show off the suprise 'special feature' of the house next week. (Yeah, why are there switches on that thing anyway?)

You're making great progress!

I haven't tried it, but the flite test store claims to have water resistant foam core board that allows for building r/c seaplanes. That might be useful for outdoor stuff?

I'd love to hear how their better, more water resistant foamboard holds up. Also it seems like the Elmer foambaord from hobbylobby and others is thicker, heavier.

Glad to hear it's been that inspiring, can't wait to see some show up in your videos.

With how you can form if for airfoils, I'm wondering how a Quanset Hut would come out. I still see those things around.

It's the AMC Pacer that gets me. One of the few cars weirder than our Fieros; IIRC, the driver's door is a different length than the passenger's.

And dammit, I've been trying to connive the wife in letting me have a Sinclair dinosaur in the backyard ... now a little one might be doable. And I've always had a thing for automobilia... huh. Y'all always get me thinking.

Thanks dremu, i'm getting better at being a bad influence.

It's really easy to find all kinds of rc supercars, high-end cars, and muscle cars. But something like a Lamborghini or Ferarri still looks really STRANGE sharing the roads with Semis, Construction, and Farming stuff.
I like doing weird 'normal cars' in this scale, especially if they can bring a smile or laughter. When i remebered there had been a run of rc 1/16 AMC Pacers, and Ford Pintos i had to start searching! A downsizing amc collector let me buy all 4 colors of this Pacer. Unfortunately the MotorMax 'fresh cherries' Pacer doesn't actually have the 4" longer passenger door. At first I was kinda thinking Waynes World with flames, but couldn't argue with kandy apple red once i had them here.

Awww, she doen't want a fiberglass Sinclair dinosaur? I though everybody likes the Brontosaurus. (or Brachiosaur.)

There's a Bruder kit that has a gas pump in it. Kinda pricey at ~$90 just to get the gas pump. And I don't see it available as a spare part.
