Lesu Transmission with GRU?

Hey y'all,

I'm considering making a change to my 6x6. It currently uses a stock Tamiya 3 speed coupled to an Axial trans as a transfer case. This has an overall reduction of 2.6:1 compared to stock.

I'm thinking of getting a Lesu 3 speed trans with front output. However, the ratios are even taller than the Tamiya 3 speed, which sucks. So I would add a 3:1 gear reduction unit in front of the Lesu trans. Does anyone know of any reason this shouldn't work before I lay down the money?

It's dooable. I know a feller in our Rc club that has a Tamiya 3 speed transmission coupled to a 2 speed transmission. He now has 6 gear & they all function. He only takes the 2 speed into high gear when we're cruising through the blacktop streets of the neighborhood
