Half inch MDF and wood posts. Bet that thing weighed a bit. Other than having it laying around, why use the MDF over the quarter inch hard board you used for the roof?

It looks great though and have thought of doing something like that for my sons tonka toy collection, but I would need it to be weatherproof and kid safe/proof.

You hit the nail on the head right there. Kid proof.. The 100% clear pine will never get a splinter and is the hardest pine out there. The MDF also will not splinter it all keeping it very safe for a child or adult that may be crawling around the building. Now my big building and other I have made for other people you can sit on that is how much weight they will carry. This building is not very heavy and when you prime and paint them the finish is near perfect. Normally I do the roof out of 1/2 inch too but the owner wanted the roof really lite for there son so I did 1/4. Now I know they are not 100% weather proof but mine don't sit out side over night and neither does this one so that was not a major issue.
