Well some of you have seen this truck before but since I posted picks of it, it has had some misfortune at the hands of my teenage son. Here is a pick of her at work.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/IM003303.jpg

And here is a pick of the culprit next to the victim.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/IMG00024-20100425-1638.jpg

And a picture of the victim stripped of all her pride.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/010-5.jpg

Since I do not have picks of what happened to her I will keep it short. She had a run in with an item that was not going to move with the passenger front wheel. This run in wrecked one of my 38 inch TSL SX tires and almost ripped the front leaf spring bracket off the frame bent the U bolts on both sides and sheared the centering pin out of the leaf stack and jacked the passenger front fender. Now don't think he is getting off with out being out of pocket he has to buy all New Tires for the truck and since Interco's Tire plant burned down 8 months ago my TSL SX's are very hard to get and if you can find them they have went threw the roof in price so he is buying 4 new 38 inch BFG KM2's..

So since we have this amount of damage and it has been run hard the last 11 years since I first rebuilt the truck and re did the body it is time for the kid and his little brother to learn how to do body work and paint and restore the old girl.

Now since all the parts I have gotten him are OG off other truck there will be some work on them all but all in all for the most part rust free.

So he started with the bottom side of the new hood this weekend and prepped the under side and sealed it with POR rust proof sealer.

Before
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/003-19.jpg

After
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/004-19.jpg

Next with some help he got to work on the damaged mount.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/011-6.jpg

And here is what is left of the mount after we got it off.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/012-5.jpg

Now that is it for tonight Ill have more soon as I am having new U bolts made tomorrow and getting a new centering pin for the stack.

No the kid is fine just a half asleep kid not paying close attention..

OK here he goes. Here is the new mount all bolted in place with grade 8 blots.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/002-21.jpg

The boy got more done tonight..Here are the old and new U-Bolts I got the new ones made at a local semi truck repair shop..

Well the son has learned another good lesson from all this.. The law of Action and Reaction. Problem.. What happens when you hit a object very hard and it puts lots of TORK on the gear box?? Thats right it blows the upper seal out of the box so he will be going to get a reman one tomorrow..

I keep getting crap from my kids about me selling my 1948 Dodge Power Wagon I restored ground up. I had it for 14years then sold it in 1996. But I would probably be doing what your doing --fixing it from 4 wheeling mishaps. I had a blazer about the same vintage as your truck 1975, with 38" Groundhogs and winch back in the early 80's.

i had an 80 gmc like yours. 32" tires on it, 350 done up. (flat top pistons, rv cam, hooker headers, edlebrock everything) and it had some insane power. at the time it was 80 cents/liter for fuel and i was complaining about it using $40 to drive 2 hours on the highway lol. now it would be more like 80-100!!

Hey guys Thanks for all the comments and the past rigs you all ways regret getting rid of them after they are gone for sure...

The boy got a lot done this weekend a good friend of mine and I helped out some and Tristin recruited some help from one of his friends also..Here is what we got done..

First as you can see the old box had to go..On the left is my son Tristin and the right is a good friend of mine Wyatt..
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/001-17.jpg

Here is a pick of the newer box we got.. We had the under side of the floor sand blasted do to the rust on the cross members witch is weird as the box sides and floor and tail gate are straight and rust free??
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/002-23.jpg

I had a local welding shop make me new cross members out of 12ga steal instead of the 16ga the factory ones were.I did not get a picture of it but the boy got the under side of the box and all the inners of the box sides with POR so they have a nice think coat of rust proofing on them now like the hood.

He also got 2/3's of the frame POR'ed this weekend too..
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/008-11.jpg
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/009-10.jpg
And a pick of the goof ball playing in the POR..
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/004-21.jpg

Also he got his cowl in for the hood on Friday.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/003-22.jpg
And I got him started on the body work on the hood. Now this is his first major body work he has ever done but with some teaching he will do fine.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/010-6.jpg
After teaching him how to shrink high spots and fill and smooth them out he shot the bear metal spots with metal etch primer and then he shot high build primer on the hood.

well since Friday was the boy's birthday and I got the wheels back from the powder coater I got his 3 tires he had bought the wife and I bought him his last tire for him for his Birthday..

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/020-2.jpg

He has been working on the body work on the hood and doors should have them in final prime this week and ready to be sealed and painted..

Well the sky's finally opened up today and the sun shined so the boy and I were able to get back at the truck today and block out the 1st coat of high build on the hood. He did a pretty good job for his first time he did sand to far in areas but that is not to big of a deal..Here is the hood ready for high build primer again..

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/001-21.jpg

We also got the passenger door ready for it's first coat of high build primer.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/002-27.jpg

So next it was time to teach him how to mix up the 4to1 primer.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/005-24.jpg

Then time to learn how to spray and primer is a perfect thing to practice with..

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/004-24.jpg

And the fruits of his labor today..
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/006-20.jpg

We got alot done today. The boy is buying his first major tool tomorrow he is buying a wire welder he has saved up $550.00 and is going to by a nice welder and get a tank of gas tomorrow so we can get going on the box and new cab corners this week too..

Ill be picking up a driver side fender this next Sat and some other parts we need from out at the farm and we will keep pluging along..

Lookin good TC! With some more practice, you may have a custom car builder on your hands! Not trying to get soft on you, but I love to see Fathers in their kids lives- teaching and showing them things. Great job on the truck, and with the kids!:). I believe if more men, stepped up and did more stuff with their kids--the world would be a better place! Keep up the great "All around" work! Take care, Will

Your so very right there Will.. Helping them along and teaching them makes all the difference in life most of the time. He is on the path to be going threw CAT's "Think Big" Program here in 2 years. He will be starting at the largest Truck Shop in the state here as soon as school is out. He does want to get some about body schooling also as he would like to do custom semi work down the road too but a CAT Teck as is main line..

Well been crazy busy this last week but we will be making major progress later this week. But last week the boy took his money he had been saving up and bought himself a new Hobart wire welding and cart. This is his first major tool he has ever bought so he is pretty crazy happy. We have a Miller stick and tig welder in the shop but he wanted a wire so i told him he needed to pay for it and he did. Now I have trained him on how to weld with a stick in all 4 positions I figure you can do that with a stick you can run a wire welder all day i learned how to on the Nat Gas pipe line then I switched over to Boiler and larger scale AC system welding after I got sick of welding in the hot sun or the freezing cold.

Ok so this is his first time wire welding and had him welding 12ga in a matter of minutes so he was able to get 3 cross members stiched in and 2 71 inch seams welded shut today now he just has 2 more to do then we will do any clean up it needs then seam sealer and POR and the bottom of the box is done then it is all body work..

Later this week the front and rear bumpers will be going to get sand blasted then I will heading to the paint booth with the hood and bumpers..

Hey Russ Tristin says Thanks Much. And you are very right sometimes better to learn by feel of doing it that is for sure..

Well he got a bunch more done this week and tonight..

First off the new box supports are all welded in and seams ground and buffed and also recoated the hole bottom of the box one more time with POR..

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/007-14.jpg

Missing the finished pick Ill get it tomorrow.

He also got the rear drums wire wheeled and POR'ed.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/006-22.jpg
Now this winter we will be doing a rear disk break swap so more to come there..
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/010-9.jpg

And then he mounted them on the truck just to see how they looked.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/009-13.jpg
Now also I got the new style center caps for the wheel from the salvage yard and I used a 4 inch hole saw to cut the centers out of the front. Now to do this you have to order new lug nuts but you can get them from Dolmar 16-6116 is the part number..

Well I sent the boy in town last night to pick up something from a good friend of mine. I told him take the truck and bring back what was there and here is what he found..
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/006-23.jpg

The LMC GOD'S have smiled on the over haul project.. NEW fenders and cab corners and inner also new inner fender wells all new window track seal and door gaskets and new gas doors and parts and new complete door hinges and complete door bolt kits NOW we can get at it..

Also the hood is in final prime and ready to be sealed in in the paint booth it go's and the bumpers are at the sand blaster so lots got done yesterday and we are planing to have the box in the paint booth in a week..
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/008-15.jpg

Also my youngest boy Joey decided he needed his own over haul project to work on with Dad so he brought this wagon I made years ago for my oldest son and it has been in a barn for at least 10+ years and he want to redo it so it also will be the same colors as the big truck when done..

Hope your LMC parts work out better than mine. I redid my S10 a few years back. Most of the sheetmetal didnt fit and needed lots of reworking, window tracks and seals wouldn't hold the window, and my chrome bumper, handles, and trim are rusting after only 2 years.

Your project is definitely looking awesone though!

LOL yeah that would be funny.. I think it will just get redone then be the new welder cart for the hobart..

Hope your LMC parts work out better than mine. I redid my S10 a few years back. Most of the sheet metal didn't fit and needed lots of reworking, window tracks and seals wouldn't hold the window, and my chrome bumper, handles, and trim are rusting after only 2 years.

Thanks Much MTdriver.. One thing I learned when I managed a body shop. Is no after market body panels are perfect and I redid a 89 S10 back in 95 and the fenders had fitment issues but just took some monkeying around to get them to fit good. Body gaps you have to work on to get them a solid 1/4 inch sometimes grind on the fender and door and other times weld on the edge to build it back up it just takes a little time.. Now I have used fenders and box sides from LMC and GM on this year of truck before and the LMC fenders fit just as good as the GM ones I had no issues and the gaskets I am not sure but judging by the looks of them next to my old ones should be good there but only time will tell..

Well got stuck working Sat this weekend but that is a good thing I have been down the road with no work so I am not bitching..;) But the kid got a bunch done with out me but I chipped in late Sat night and today some. He got the hole in side of the box wire brushed with the grinder..
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/002-29.jpg
And that made one **** of a mess in the shop but looked good after.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/003-28.jpg
Then he got it POR'ed and I seamed sealed it this morning.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/005-26.jpg

Before He POR'ed the inside of the box we washed all the floors down in the shop and cleaned it all up nice as I cant work in a mess and after that my youngest son Joe wanted to work on his project but we broke out the dewalt dustless sander for that..
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/004-26.jpg
Joe also traded to the local lawnmower shop his 2 bigger rear tires for 2 matching the steer tires..He is dead set on redoing the old wagon..:)

Also I was able to get the passenger side of the box all sanded down and and damage filled and in high build primer.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/006-24.jpg
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/008-17.jpg

Got the tailgate in the shop today and got the the latch working perfect it is very smooth and easy to pull Since it had a a GMC chrome center piece it was bolted in with 4-3/8 bolts I had the boy weld them shut top and bottom so now the tail gate is ready to be sanded down and body work and primed..
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/007-15.jpg

And before I got home last night I was able to get in the paint booth and spray the hood for the truck. I mixed up the same semi flat black as the 69 cuda and sprayed it..

BEFORE
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/001-21.jpg

And AFTER..

Thanks Much Russ it has been a fun project to work on with the boys.. We have been working on it I just have not had time to get picks up but today we were able to block the high build down on the box and it was really pretty straight all in all but I did high build the box and tailgate one more time I hope it can go to paint at the end of the week of first part of next.

Here are some picks after we were done blocking i forgot to get some of it primed again you could tell after I re-primed it how nice and straight it was looks great..

And here is the pick of the new tires and center caps on the truck that I forgot about a few posts back.

Well all life has gotten in the way of my fun lately.. I have been blessed with tons of work for my business and life at home has been crazy. My wife had some surgery to fix what a issue that we have been trying to figure out what has been make her sick over a week ago and it has been a tuff road the last 10 days but she is on the up side..

The boys and I have been working a little on the truck but took sometime this weekend for Fathers day as that is what i wanted to work on and here is what has been going on since the last update many weeks ago.

There really was no picks I could put up for the constant blocking of the box but here is the last pick before it went to the paint booth.

I will set the gas doors and tailgate later this week I am waiting on some more hardware.

Also 2 weeks ago we got the bumpers back. Now we only mounted the rear as it will not be in the way of anything but the front will have to wait. FOr some reason the sunlight made it look funny I thin in the pick but it is the same Black as the wheels.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/004-30.jpg

But one pretty big set back today. I was hoping to get the new fenders and doors hung this weekend but we found a hidden surprise under some patch work today.

SHame about the tin worm hiding in the floor, but it looks like you got that covered, can't wait to see the finished article.

Paul - just read through all this - pretty major project - the elbow grease is paying as it looks fabulous. Pat the boys on the back for us. Also real glad the mississippi is getting well - 'if momma ain't happy ain't nobody happy'

Looks good Paul!

Thanks for the great comments guys.. I am trying to keep up with Brian's resto ability not sure that is possible if you dont know what i am talking about just ask him ;) . Chris you are very right too but she is bouncing back just taking longer than they said. Snowman I should of know better as everything the guy did before I redid it 15 years ago was hacked that he was hiding some major crap..

Lookin good Paul! You know I'm a fan of an ole square body! I don't think you ever mentioned what year of truck your working on... looks like 79-80. What bigblock are you running?

Tamiya Cowboy
06-22-2011, 11:00 AM
Rod

The year of the square style is 73 threw 86 with the main changes being the front clip. This is a 77 the motor I built 10 or so years ago it is a 468 witch is a 454 punched then lots of head work and a monster cam and super stiff valve springs to deal with the big lob of the cam it is sitting around 500 + hp

Stepside
06-22-2011, 03:20 PM
was that truck originally a big block truck? what trans are you running behind that monster?

as for the square bodies, they ran from 73-87 in the trucks and up until 91 with the suburbans and blazers. I was just guessing you were 73-80 based on the front marker light in the fender, 81-87 used a square style lamp instead of the rounded one. My 'stepside' is a '75.

I don't know if Glen is on the forums anymore, "Iron-man," he had a squarebody also, I think...

Brian in PA
06-22-2011, 05:21 PM
You beat me to it Rod. you also forgot to mention that the crew cab trucks were also the square style until 91 too. They changed the front grill section to allow for the mini quad headlights in the 88- 91 style vehicles. The front clip was different from 81 through the 87 or 91 style.

Brian

P.S. some chevy truck trivia. The 88 round truck style was designated by chevy as the "CK" stlye. What was the previous years called?

Tamiya Cowboy
06-22-2011, 06:54 PM
No it was a small block truck when I got it 17 years ago and a 4 gear. I switched out the 350 and went full roller 355 with DART heads. Then the cam broke in my 69 chevy short box little show truck that was a 406 with EB Alum heads one it so I re cam'ed the 355 and put the EB alum heads on that and had this big block built. Little info the guy who built the big block is a engine builder that use to big "Big Daddy Don Garlets" motors way back in the day thinking about pulling it out and having it turned out to a 572 he did a 672 for a buddy of mine but I would have to 2nd on the house to have that built. The 462 I have a TH400 behind it and it was built for crawler and high R's in the mud shifts very very hard on the street but I like that. I might change my mind on the front clip and put the burb one on it I have a complete one that is in perfect shape but the kid wants the old style round I would like to change his mind..

Ok well it has been sometime since I have updated the rebuild. I have been crazy busy with work and I just have not had time I have even farmed out some of my Rc builds to Jon so i would have some time to work on another build for a friend BUT the kid has been working on it as have I here and there but lets get this brought up to speed..

Ok Bat Fans when we last left off are Dynamic Duo had feel into a little issue.. RUST!

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/005-31.jpg
Just seeing how far i need to go.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/007-20.jpg
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/006-28.jpg

And lots of it way worse then we had thought but after 15 years of rocks and mud I was not real surprised. So we set out to cut out all the floor boards/ inner and outer rocker and inner and outer cab corners..
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/013-7.jpg
We used POR on everything as we put it back together. Everything that was old was grinder wire brushed then POR'ed.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/014-7.jpg
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/015-8.jpg
Inner Rocker.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/016-9.jpg
Then I did not get picks of each step but here in the passenger side all done.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/012-14.jpg
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/010-17.jpg

Then after booth sides were all welded in and the welds buffed smooth with a 80 grit flap disk on a grinder we 60 grit sanded all the floors and preped them and POR'ed all that too. Now this week the hole cab on the chassis is going to go have the back of the cab and the inside of the cab lined with bed-liner.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/005-34.jpg

So 2 weeks ago we had a change of mind and went with new GM doors as we were having some fitting issues but the new doors fixed that issue here are some picks with everything fitted.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/004-34.jpg
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/003-36.jpg

Now also 2 weeks ago the kid went and re loomed all the wiring under the hood with all new Red loom and new black loom junctions and he repainted the air cleaner top and bottom the same Red as the truck and tossed in a new K&N 5 3/4 tall filter on his own dime even and it came out real nice.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/010-16.jpg
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/009-20.jpg
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/008-24.jpg
Now we still have to change all the belts and hoses and respray the block black but that wont take much.

So now here we are as of this weekend. First it is hot and HE*L here over 100 and the shop does not have air. I called in some help with the back of the cab and jams and the body work down the sides of the cab cause I found after taking the back window out that the cab had been punched very very hard about 6 inches under the back window and I found all kinds of no good but myself and 2 of my friends that work in a body shop spent all day yesterday straightening the cab and i forgot to take picks but here is the end result.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/001-26.jpg
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/004-32.jpg
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/002-34.jpg
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/003-34.jpg
Now all i have left on the cab is the glaze coat witch is on the driver side and the passanger side is done and the roof and jams. We fixed and minor dings in the new doors and fenders cause they always have them and took all them off and they are ready to go to paint tonight. Here is the kid hard at work in the heat taking them off for the 4th time I think.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/007-22.jpg

He also sanded out the visor by hand and fixed a few minor cracks in the fiberglass today too.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/006-30.jpg
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/005-33.jpg

And here is the pile that is going to the body shop tonight.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/011-14.jpg

And one more thing it was 102 yesterday in the shop when we shut down at 3:30 and today at 2 it was already 101 in the shade good temp to stop at..:D

Thanks much ultrashort.. Rust is not a big issue like it used to be but this truck went threw the hay day of road salt now they use a byproduct of the corn based flue it does not rust out cars or wreck the roads. And you can have some heat still hot as **** here!!

Good news tonight the panels will be painted tomorrow and then I hope the cab next week if the money is there to do it..

Thanks Much Crimson you to can learn it just takes time and trail and error and you will get it..

Well on Saturday we loaded the truck up and to it to have some bed liner work done to it..
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/001-29.jpg

We had the back of the cab done were the box meets the cab and 1/2 of the inside of the cab done in bedliner..Now this type of bed liner I think is the best I have had Rino and Linex and they were to be the best and i think they both stick I have had both of them peel and get hard and lose there color and no one ever wants to cover there product like they say they will. Now this liner is more rubbery and thicker and is not slick and keeps its color I have very happy with it on my F250 front bumper and in the bed of it..

So here are some prep picks I was too late to get before;s of the back of the cab..
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/image2.jpg
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/image1.jpg

And the afters.. the liner is 1/8 of a inch or better in areas thick.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/004-37.jpg

So that is it for now I have to paint the lower dash and behind the seat red this weekend and we will be starting on redoing the interior parts too this weekend the body will get in the paint booth on next Tuesday by buddy is behind on painting and he just cant give me the booth time till then.. So getting close about a week out for putting it back together!! :D

My son made a big score today the 85 chevy we got the seat out of for the truck also had some really good interior parts that just need redid. So he go all the inside parts but the dash it was junk and the chrome drip rails today for $75.00 So pretty dang good deal..

Thanks Much Joe.. Tristin wont get a chance to tear it up as he wont get to drive it much it all :D..

OK lots done this week on the truck. Here we go..

The kid tore after the rear slider window since it was alum finish he taped it all off and etch primed and sealed it then the same black as the wheels and bumpers..

It will go off to get tinted this week so it is ready to go in later next week the cab gets painted on Tuesday.

Ok then we started on the interior parts we could not find a dash and new was not in the budget so repair was the only way to go. I used a glue that is sort of like CA it is for fixing dashes Eastwood Corp makes it then it sands very nice so of like a filler. So after I fixed all the cracks I 60 grit the dash down then hand sanded it with 180 and we used 3m rocker panel spray. We use the corse and the med grade first a lite coat of the corse the many many coats of the med to give it a even texture.

Here are the finished parts next to the door panel that came out of the same truck so you can see what they did look like before and after.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/005-39.jpg

Next we did the under side of the dash and the area behind the seat that is not covered by trim parts and needed to be painted the Holly Red..

The kid also started working on the front end grill parts he got the head light bezels ready for paint and i got them painted but I want to polish the chrome before I take picks..

Well behind of were I wanted to be again but life happens and I could not get the cab sprayed last week or this weekend so my buddy that owns the body shop got it done for me today and I got it back tonight and WOW  it came out great!!

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/001-33.jpg

But I could not wait and I had to start putting some parts one so I 3M rubber undercoated the inside of were the water sheds off the windshield and put the new leaf cover on it and also put the new hood gasket on it too.

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/002-40.jpg

You can also see I sprayed the defrost ducts black again and then I had to set the restored dash on it..

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/005-40.jpg

Now I have a new alum fill in piece for the dash too Ill put that on at the end..

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/004-41.jpg

Tomorrow night I will fix the pos and neg wires to the fuel tank and get ready for the box to go on. My buddy sand blasted the body lift blacks today also and when I got home my son had already dipped them in POR so they will be dry in the morning. I hope to drop the box on it wed night..

Man that looks great Paul!!! I love that body style, we have a 84' 1-ton 4x4 "grass truck" at work, I'm itching to get my hands on when it goes up for sale. What wheels and tires are you planning on?

Keep it up.

Well been going like Mad on the truck this week we are down to the things that don't look like much but take a lot of time to do.. I did get lax on the picks as i was in the grove and just plain old forgot..

I took the headlights and side markers and front parking lights since they were old and not looking the best I took the chrome rings off them and polished them and then used VHT night shades to smoke them..

Also got the chrome on the front and all the lights mounted also the lower stone guard too and here is how it looks still have to finish the grill tomorrow..

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/002-43.jpg

Then worked on some more wiring under the hood and new heater hoses clamps, battery cables and battery too..

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/006-37.jpg
Fuel pump relay.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/007-29.jpg
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/001-36.jpg

Also got the seat back from the carpet cleaner and it looks like new keep in mind this seat came out of the same 85 chevy that all the int trim work came from..
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/005-43.jpg

Them got the headliner and A and B pillar and the front and back trim in and the seat..
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/004-43.jpg
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/003-45.jpg

Also I had to take to gas filler necks and make one cause the truck is a 76 and the box is a 85 and the fuel tanks and the fuel neck are different so I took the 85 filler neck and cut the end of the 76 filler neck off and welded them together and that worked perfectly. Ill get a pick of that tomorrow too..

I am working on the rest of the trim parts but the door panels so all the int trim work will be done tomorrow as well as the hood mounted too and have to do the tail light wiring too then just little stuff till it is just right again..

Thanks For looking..

Shaping up nice Paul! Very nice detail work.

Thanks much Scott..;)

Well the old rig is pretty much done but a few minor things but Ill get yall up to speed on the project. I have forgot to get picks of a few things but Ill just have to explain them instead.

Ok so first off finished up the grill and front.. Got the grill redone and all the smoked lights installed..

Before.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/004-44.jpg

After..Smoked headlights and side markers and blinkers with new painted grill and chevy badge to match the color of the truck.

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/009-26.jpg

Here is the old fender badge I cleaned it all up and polished it witch was a major pain then repainted the black and changed the yellow to the same red as the truck.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/011-20.jpg
On the truck.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/023-6.jpg

Ok so got the windows and all the new track felt installed I took the wing windows and replaced the rubber gaskets MAJOR PAIN and repainted all the black parts all of this I did not get picks of the steps as i was just trying to get done it was no fun.

Next we striped the old door panels we bought and I took the fabric panels in the house and cleaned them with carpet cleaner and them we sanded down the old sun beaten panels and re-textured them to match the dash and recolored the panels and arm rests and door pouch.
Before..

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/014-13.jpg
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/015-13.jpg

Afters.. We are waiting on the new alum strips for the door panels.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/021-10.jpg
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/022-9.jpg

So today we up sea-foam in the motor and ran it about 40 miles and them brought it back and changed the oil and put in Royal Purple and greased the hole chassis and up on the front bumper and the new wheels and tires and this is were she sits now.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/017-10.jpg
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/016-14.jpg
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/020-6.jpg
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/019-8.jpg
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/024-8.jpg

So we still have some odds and ends left. Carpet and a Bed cover/CB whips and some Int. trim parts. Then some new LED lights for the front and rear bumpers and cut and buff it and it will be a wrap so there will be some mini updates down the line.

Thanks Much

Dang, Paul. I'm not a Chevy guy in the least, but I think this has to be one of the sharper ones I have ever seen. I can't believe the amount of work and the transformation that took place. The red and blacl color combo goes so well together. Beautiful. I like it a lot. What a great project to share with your son. Neither of you will ever forget it. Please show more competed pictures when you get the chance. I had been following this thread the whole time, but this is my first comment on it. Great job.

We got little things in the works we are moving the shifter to the floor with the HURST truck floor mounted shifter and I have a few small decals being made for the truck and that is about it till next spring I think..But here is what we did last weekend..

We threw a HURST T-handle on the HURST shifter I put on the T-case shifter and a HURST shifter boot..
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/008-31.jpg
And then the floor shifter will go to the left on the side of the tunnel of the T-case shifter..

Added the the 3 bulb cab light and i smoked the lens on it..
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/009-27.jpg

And put the CB whips back on it, the cb will wait till I do the carpet and the stereo in it..

Thanks Much Neil we will have to see what they say.

Ok the kid and I did a little on the truck to day. Made some lower door panels today for the new speakers that will be in the door. Started with 1/2 MDF and did a 45deg bevel edge and then covered them with the same jut that I used on the head liner in the truck.

We got 2 sets of Memphis 6" mid and high range speakers and set of 3 inch in the center of the dash and then 2 Rockford 12 inch and a Rockford 500hd for them with a kenwood 165x4 head unit running the high end nothing major but will sound nice the kid has worked hard over the last year rounding these parts up for the truck. He was in the works to put a stereo in the truck before the mishap happened so these items did not pop up over night..

more tomorrow I hope is the weather is better..

OK ONCE AGAIN!! The weather is nice and time to get the old girl back out of the hole she was in for the winter and back at it!! Well it just so happens it is my sons 17 birthday today and since the truck is half his I got him a item on his WANTED list for the truck.. Picked him up a low profile Truxcedo bed cover for it..

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/Truck%20Picks/2012-03-18_15-57-36_894.jpg

And we have also be at the inside for the truck filling in the area in the dash and door panels where the chrome strip ran threw. I took some 1/4 plastic and traced out the old chrome strips and then cut them out and wrapped them with a new 3m material that looks and feels just like carbon fiber now the stuff is not cheap but well worth it.. Now some of my picks were taken with my phone but you will get the idea.
