Howdy all, i was looking at some of the builds and i noticed some warp an extra wire around the antenna and then it looks like heat shrink on it also. I was wondering if there was a reason for this?, or is it just something that is purely cosmetic? ( Don't get me wrong, i like the look's of it just wanted to know why) Hopefully this is not to dumb of a question to ask, i really don't know why they are like this.

Thanks,
Mike

I bought mine from Ric at PMD while in Indy.

Hey Mike, they are simulating a fiberglass whip. The center is the support, and the copper wire is the actual Antenna or conductor. Hope this answers your question a little bit better. I use a base coil loaded stainless whip on my 1:1 truck. Later, Neil#2 aka doodlebug.

Thanks everyone for all the info on this i thought that maybe they were made this way for a special reason or something, i really like the look of the antennas that way.

Hey Mike, that's a little more up town, than what I run. Just put a new one on my Mack, after 14 year's of hard use(tree's, wire's, asphalt silo's, @ 13' 2'' tall) http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102661 Nothing fancy, but it work's well on ssb too. Let me know if you want a better picture.
