I have decided to put off the NHRA transporter till after I move.
I am getting a new house built as we speak, and I will have a new hobby room to build my HO scale
railroad in,and my own space to build some new trucks:eek:.

I have been wanting to build this truck for a while now and decided to go for it!
I have to just figure out how to make the headlamps:confused:.

Thats a pretty sweet truck Troy!! I love the old school paint scheme. It looks real good lowered too. I'll be watching..

That will make a sweet build and if anyone can pull it off its you ! I've been trying to fig. Those style head lights out for a while. Hope you have better luck than I've had .

Personally I would not bother with those headlights on that truck. That truck looks all old school, I think the headlight look out of place. Nice truck though.

I have disagree Claus I think it is a new 389 or 388 and the head lights are what makes it, anyone can put a paint job on a truck but and the normal round of stock Headlights/ jewellery,
So troy if you nail the headlights this will be just as good or better than your last project that blue/white KW with the monogram gear:D:D

I'm sure it'll be stellar too Troy. Once you figure out the headlights, prepare for the pm's "ahhh can I get a set of those headlight bucket". So put me in line. I'm always chompin' at the bit to see your build progress pics.

Oh...... and can you move a little quicker, I really wanna see the "Scelzi Sled Shack" come to life.

Cast and chromed is how Ric does the older style. Alternatively you could make them out of plastic and paint them chrome. Best chrome paint I have seen is Eastwood Liquid Chrome, it looks pretty close to the real thing. In any case I have my popcorn for this one. :)

Too bad Eastwood Liquid chrome cannot be bought or used in California, but it really looks like a good product.

The trademark look of the 389 is the slightly round edged grill and the headlights. I used to hate the look, but must admit that it's been growing on me, big time. I'm starting to see a lot of nice 389 show trucks and some nice working class trucks out and about on the highway.

You can chrome styrene and plastic. That'd be a neat way to go. Or machine these parts out of aluminum. Good luck!

You are right!
I talked to my brother-inlaw last night, and he said he could get me in to
the Peterbilt plant on a saturday sometime soon.

I live about 20 min. from the plant.
I can try to get blueprints,or at least detailed measurements and pictures
of the grill, headlights, fenders, air tanks, and so on.

The last time I was at the plant most of my pictures came out blurry, which
is why I never posted them.

Oh well if you don't mind the bad pic's!

I dont know if anyone has used the Alclad II system for chrome. I use it and love it.
It has to be airbrushed, comes pre-reduced (no mixing). It has to be sprayed
over Alclad gloss black. They sell many different metal colors such as gun metal, aluminum and so on. Google Alclad and go to the manu. site.
Full directions are there for free. I'm not a good airbrusher and have used this
with great success.
No, I am in no way connected to Alclad. You can spray this with a single action airbrush.
Any type of feedback is welcome.

This is a VERY,VERY,VERY ROUGH 1st attempt at the headlamps.
I used a scrap block of acrylic, which is hard to work with.

Before the bashing on how this looks like crap (and it does) I only have 15 minutes of time in this ROUGH draft, and is nowhere near close to what I
hope to come up with.:)

I agree that you did a very good job on the lights (and on the grill...) , they look very realistics. Will you use them for the finished product or it's only a try in this material (acrylic)? Does it present some benefits opposed to styrene?
I'm very interested by these lights, it should be a great add-on for my own KH/Peterbilt too :D. I can't wait to see the final touch!

No I sure don't.....this grill was an experiment for another truck.
I was going to use aluminum for the louvers, but never got around to it.

The final product will be aluminum.......I just happen to have some acrylic blocks laying around.

I have to find a place to buy small blocks of aluminum so I can really get down to business.

I was doing a little more playing around, and think I have the size about right:confused:

Man o Man i bet it was fun to get to see the Peterbilt factory like that, i mean you go in and the smell of new rubber fills your nostrils, the cabs all lined up in a row, the smell of fresh paint, new engines, all those emblems to bathe your naked body in while rolling around the floor.....err wait oops there i go thinking out loud again lol :D:D:D:D:D:D

But seriously next time you get to go would you mind taking a few pics of the rivet placements on the hood, cab, and sleeper? you know front, sides, back, and maybe if you can the cab and sleeper roofs?

Cant to see those finished headlights they are so sweet!!!!!
