That's all for now.
The next updates should be of the chain drive and sprockets.
Thanks for looking!

Debears... Thanks. I'm in Sunnyvale. Between San Jose and Plato Alto.

My Grandparents used to live in Sunnyvale! If I remember there used to be a Bobs Big Boy out there. last time I was there was over 20+ years ago though. lol I used to live in Vacaville, then LA before moving to Chicago in 94 and Arizona in 2013

Truly elegant with its finest detail I have ever see done in a constr model ... but every time I see the latest update I am less confident that I'll ever see this machine working in the dirt & quite possibly I won't live long enough to see it finished. :p

Bobs has been gone for a long time. It is now home to a Pho Nam restaurant. I went from Wisconsin to Florida back to Wisconsin then Colorado - LA - Sacramento - Washington state and finally Northern California.

Wow that is the highest of honors coming from you Joe... Thanks!
But the man who has been hauling dirt out of his basement for years indirectly wants to know if I will ever finish this project:D
Your the reason I'm on this forum. I stumble across your hauling dirt thread way back in the garden days and I have to say I thought you were a bit crazy at first but what a perfect sandbox... You play with a purpose and I admire that. Now I have a goal... Finish the 24 before you finish the basement!

Did some manual machining today on the sprockets for the drive system. I made a fixture for the sprocket and then milled in the mounting holes.

But the man who has been hauling dirt out of his basement for years indirectly wants to know if I will ever finish this project:D

... Finish the 24 before you finish the basement!

Touche'... but I finished my basement a couple yrs ago, what I originally intended to do... taking from the floor now was a means of keeping it going b/c as you say, it's the perfect sandbox.

Thank you for the encouragement. :)

You keep building, I keep watching.

Thanks for posting the little things like the jig for sprockets, it's always nice to see other ideas as I may need the knowledge sometime.

And you guys with big projects :), When I got into this stuff I didn't think I had much to do but now the jobs just keep coming in!! A whole new interest in doing landscaping around the house!!!

You're building a tunnel??

well ...guess that really depends on when you plan on finishing it.
Little advice to a pro like you.... don't rush it. Take your time:) 3-4 years maybe... that may give me a fighting chance.

Problem is... I have all the resources, tools - and skills to take your wager but with one big exception.... TIME!!! I have none!

Job... wife... and kid suck it all out of me!

One thing about me though... I do love a challenge...

Lil Giants

AM I BUILDING A TUNNEL??!!!... wow, you're about 9-10 months behind in your reading :D The plan was a couple yrs, but it's a lot easier digging than I had thought it'd be... might last till xmas :p

7 more yrs to retirement or you quitting @60? ..then we'll see the magic happen, eh?

mpe
04-30-2016, 02:09 PM
More like 1+ yrs.

So my hope for now is that in your tunneling you hit a big rock to slow you down some. Then you will need to figure out how to build a rock saw to bore through that rock... that should slow you down some.:D

not at 60... I have a good job that I actually like.
