Thank you Emil, Jack and Dan! Yeah, trying to keep it scale. 3D printing takes you a long way, but you still see the layers. Suppose some careful grinding could take care of that.

Now, machining of the lift cylinder arms has been almost completed. Just need to fill out some shrink holes (and grind out the layered structure :p).

Drilled and reamed to 14 mm.

I have always wanted to make a model as close to scale as possible. I'm more oriented towards the mechanical workings and trying to relate that to our scale versions. I know you have a tremendous amount of hidden work, set up, jigs, precision measurements, ect,,,,, but this is really paying off!! Very nice!! An inspiration for me when I think it can't be scaled down.

Looks really really good Stefan !!

Outstanding work!!! What are the extra 2 holes in the covers that you just made for? Could they be for jack bolts to remove the covers with? Just a guess!!!

Stefan
07-31-2016, 05:17 PM
Thanks very much guys. Yes, Lynn, you are right. Those covers sits quite tightly. The specification says "blade down force capability 11 058 kg (24,457 lb). Don´t think the screws alone would cope with that for a long time (guess the real screws are 1/2 inch dia.). I use M1.6 (about 1/16 ") in the model.

More than overdue as the old cloud provider disabled the direct picture linking  (luckily the old links are still valid). In the meantime the indexing bar and (all) cylinders were finished.

Just kidding! This is one outstanding build.

The grease fitting seats are at the arrows. They just haven´t been fitted yet. The central grease hole is barely visible in the next pic.

You just got elevated to a master craftsman:jaw: I was looking more for a grease fitting in the bearing block not the ball joint itself. What other thing have you put in this work of art that you haven't shown us yet?!?!

Second thought- you are way above a master craftsman!!

@All: Thanks a lot for the positive comments.

@Lynn: Ok, I was kidding a bit :o The grease fittings will not be operational - but coming to think of it... :D

@Kent: Hope you can see the pictures now.

@Jack: Yeah, haven´t had it all put together for a long time now, so think that would be a good idea. But no such pics at the moment. Sorry!

@Bo: Hopefully someone else builds the miniature grease gun :D Maybe some day in a very far future my second grader will be for sale ;)

if this is a 1/8 scale what do you expect the final weight to be around

Stefan
04-26-2017, 02:02 AM
Simply based on scaled down real weight I estimate it to be at least 40 kg. Extra implements like ripper and front blade not included.

Sorry guys, simply haven´t got around to posting anything for a long time. Also didn´t do so very much on the build.

In November I noticed that most picture links were broken . The original photo host site had been taken over by another one and the pics transferred to the latter. In the process the original URLs went dead. Luckily, this forum allows editing for apparently eternal and so I managed to edit in the new URLs having first identified the picture of each broken link (over 300 of them :() by opening the HTML source code in the browser.

Concerning the build I did manage to shape the plates for the fuel tank (which will serve as the hydraulic oil tank) and make parts for the circle bearing. Also made some progress cutting a lot of screws to correct length and making scale washers. The cut screws allowed me to put some of the sub-assemblies properly together and, remembering that Jack asked for pics of the whole model, I´m happy to now be able to post some overview pics.

What's the dimensions and weight of it this far?

Length.. 121 cm (47.6") over all
Width..... 34 cm (13.4") at the front hubs
............. 31.5 cm (12.4") at the rear hubs
Height.... 39 cm (15") to the upper end of the lift cylinders (as propped up on the Lego).

The weight is almost 26 kg (57 lb), this number includes the blade and the tank which are still unattached.
