http://i1085.photobucket.com/albums/j436/1985kenworth/467.jpgi have started my transformers truck and trailer build from the movie i am using the reefer trailer body as his trailer is a reefer and i used the chassis from the regular box trailer to give me the look of pushed forward bogies on the trailer and give me the rear over hang that his trailer has

i am a little stubborn about details i try to get as close to the original as i can i just wish the reefer trailer didn't have smooth sides because optimus's trailer has ribs on the side' but work with what i can thanks for the words:D

that is precisely what is holding me back on my build, that and frame rails,
bandsaw belt is discontinued. :(

oh yeah, finding time to do it is proving to be difficult too!

what's swomta? I'm guessing a truck club, but havnt heard anything.

This will be a fun one to watch. I'm a huge Trasnformers fan, and I loved watching the movies. Optimius Prime was definitely the high point of the film for me. You could always buy some corrugated or ribbed styrene sheet, for the trailer sides.

1985 kenworth
03-13-2012, 02:05 AM
true but believe me the chrome wrap that i am using is hard to do on the ribs .i did it on a tamiya box trailer and had to do each rib individually .i just got some other stuff that they use on the airplanes .that s$%^ is expensive but i am going to try it .apparently you put it on with a square credit card to get bubbles out then you use hot air to activate the adhesive and make it super flexible for corners ,however you got my curiosity up about the ribbed styrene sheets for the sides ,do they come that long and big?where would i find them my lhs don't have anything that large :D

Body work looks good, but im not sure youll be happy with that filler... Ive found that it shrinks really bad (resulting in big ugly cracks) if not put on in extremely thin coats. You may want to try some bondo or evercoat metal glaze (which ive been told is the best, but bondo is right behind it)

i am actually using mmd green putty on this build its my first time using it .it was recommended by a friend ,i usually use the tamiya putty.i used tamiya putty on my first truck and 2 years later it is still ok.thanks for the tip:D

I would bet that you can sand most of it off and use a pic to get the rest off out of the cracks. I would definitely get it out of there. I knew better and used it anyway thinking I did not need much filler and it would be thin well I was wrong I now have a nice truck with a great paint job and an ugly ring where I filled in a sun roof window.

I 100% recommend the EVER COAT Polly Flex there is nothing that even comes close to this stuff.

Just to get technical.....alot of reefers need em slid forward to compensate the extra weight of the reefer up front....just sayin! :)

Looks good.

Did you order leds from pmd? :D

No I understand that, I just meant the tandems were very far forward almost to far forward to look scale. To me they look a little to far forward in relation to the landing gear. I'm a huge fan of this build so far since I was an owner operator with a utility reefer, not many guys do the custom owner operator looking reefers, especially the stainless wagons or the spread axels.

1985 kenworth
04-03-2012, 10:02 AM
yea thats true but if you look at the movie trailer the tandems are slid forward so that is the look iam going for i used the tamiya reefer body for the length and the regular box trailer chassis in order to get this effect..thanks for looking and commenting i appreciate it:p

1985 kenworth

Trailer looks good...

As for the multiple post thing. You need to open two windows one for this forum and one for photobucket. then switch between the windows. What it sounds like to me is that you are switching to photobucket in the same window you have the forum open then backing up to the forum again. This will cause you to loose what you have put in your post.

Easiest way to open Photobucket in a new window. If you have photobucket set in a favorite then RIGHT click on the link and choose the "Open in a new window" choice. If you do it right you should have two tabs at the top of the browser, one that says RC Truck and Construction and one that says Photobucket. Then you just click on the tabs to go between the two sites.

1985 kenworth

actually brian i couldn't paint a flame if my life depended on it:eek: so because i don't trust myself to do a exact replica job for the paint:( i have inlisted a gent i know who does paint jobs with near professional results .there is 2 guys that can do it .one i have seen his work and his paint blows me away with the detail:D and the other is unbelievable what he can achieve with an airbrush or hand brush:): so to answer your question the cab is being sent out to be painted:p:p besides i would not want to have to do a bad repaint over a bad paintjob:rolleyes:

Dwayne...the perfect brackets are are the j brackets on pmd's single rounds ..you can take the single round off there then drill through the bottom of the bracket and into your double rounds and a little screw will work perfect..that's what I did on my roll off..I used the lights off the roll bar on the f350 high lift to give it the bigger headlight look like from a 32 ford :D..it's a shame to take singles off but they are perfect...:D

PROBUILDER1964
08-31-2012, 01:37 AM
the problem sometimes with bondo ...guys it can eat or screw up the plastic ! i like to use a two part "epoxy sculpt" you just mix equal parts of the putty together smear it on...and it even can be fine smoothed with water ! once it dries to a super rock hard finish...you can sand it out to what you want. It never shrinks or hurts the plastic your working with ! once you try it and see how it works...you will never use anything else ! Also that green putty can bleed through your paint and you will have a dark shadow there all the time !

1985 kenworth
08-31-2012, 08:46 AM
where can you get this stuff from:).i did use the green crap until some members here informed me about the shrinkage:mad: so i sanded about 95% of it off ,i didn't use that much anyway.how long does it take to dry?

Hey loaded heavy yea the third part he has a trailer that carries his weapons.they show it a few times very briefly but if you google it they have photos of it.it looks like its a utility brand stainless reefer trailer.and goose i think someone on here posted a link on here somewhere about this chroming process and the video shows it being applied by a spray bottle
They put a coating on something and add something then they spray a solution and as it runs on and spreads it chromes whatever they are doing and its mirror chrome.its unbelievable and there is a place near me that does it and apparently they can do anodized chrome colours too.i went on the website and they have a video of the process.....wow.i will try to find it again and post it here or at least the name of it.i am thinking of doing it if its not too expensive

Actually DT everything is correct on that ebay grille except the headlight mounts.they are not true double j they are from the older style 359 however they are correctly mounted to the grille.oh and yes i have one on the way to me right now because i cannot make the blinker bars in front, and besides that i am going for the closest look. Not everything is going to be exactly the way it is for real but i am ok with that...after all its supposed to be fun:D....thanks everyone for looking... i can't wait until its done either;)

thanks everyone for your patience with this build .i really wanted a true as can be replica of this truck which is why i got a painter friend to do this.there is no way today..tomorrow...next week...or even the next lifetime(if there is one)that could have ever pulled this off and i want to thank everyone involved at helping to bring my idea 17 months ago to a reality.this truck i was thinking to make a special carry case for optimus and zeus to transport them to and from shows ..venues...etc i was thinking wooden crate with handles for the strength and being rigid.does anyone have any suggestions on what to line it with that will not damage the paint in transit..glad everyone likes it .now to finish up the little bits left to do and the trailer ..then the lights..woo hoo.and just to mention before someone else does :eek:no this truck will not be hitting any curbs...ever!!!

**** thats looking sweet. Ive got some warm white leds for headlights, most tend to be a cool white that has a blue tinge to them. The warm whites tend to the slightly yellow end of the spectrum, which helps to differentiate them from all the blue leds.

That's awesome. Sometimes I like the warm white LEDs for headlights, and sometimes I like the cool white LEDs. In the case of all the blue marker lights, I'd almost say warm whites would stand out a little more on the headlights.

Dang.....to bad they don't just introduce Ultra Magnus and get rid of all these modern looking semi trucks! Curious about that old Marmon COE though. Looks like it would make a better Otpimus Prime then anything else I've seen so far.

that is a great pick the two together very nice... The new cab over is megatron everyone knew that but the old pete cab over is the old optimums back from the dead the new optimums is that GOOFY look new IH with 3 turn out stacks on each side. A guy over on my face book page got some picks as they were filming 2 weeks ago as they are filming on his grandfathers land they had 2 of the OP semis and one of the old OP's sitting there and one Mega outght to be a great movie I think minus the International Joker Semi..

I havent got mine yet, but i think they're going to a problem to mount with his mounting method.
The chassis rails i used (from Joe) arent quite the same height as the stock ones, they're a fraction taller. I had to grind my fuel tank mounts to fit them. If the mount for the boxes is the same, they may not fit.
And, with the C clamp style he's used, they will be in the way for mounting the headache rack. They'll raise it by several mm, which will put it past the top of the roof of the sleeper.

From some of the pics of the small tool boxes, you can take the mounting bracket off and use its 2 mounting holes to mount it directly to the frame. Even add a spacer if you wanted.

07-20-2013, 09:23 AM
Ahh I didnt notice that it looks removable. Problem solved.

1985 kenworth
07-20-2013, 03:47 PM
yes like lynn said the c bracket is removable .i am removing mine and its easy to turn the c bracket around and use the holes as a guide to drill .i am mounting mine to the frame directly and eliminating the bracket altogether...i will be doing that some time today or tomorrow so i will post pics of it :)i am going to put a little slot on the holes as looking at the box the bracket is a little crooked and i want them to sit evenly

One thing I noticed and im not sure if I can recreate it, is that the front corners of the trailer are actually rounded. Might make things difficult to mount though, may stick with square.

1985 kenworth
08-07-2013, 03:56 AM
yea i thought about that but i will leave well enough alone:eek: ...i am happy with this so far:bounce:if this was a scratch built trailer like you are doing it would be easier to do the rounded corners but this trailer is not even scale length and to do that means i would have to start all over again...and well ..i am not getting any younger...:rolleyes:hey bob are you going to do the rounded corners on your trailer?

kingbob
08-07-2013, 04:35 AM
Im thinking about it. I found some quarter rounded plastic strip at the hardware store, but am pondering how to attach it and how it affects how the front end of the trailer is structurally built. Plus it might just look rubbish at that scale.

Radio Control Trucker
08-07-2013, 05:59 AM
Rounded corners on the headboard of a trailer are do-able. Stuart (Old Busted Hotness) did some on his scratch built 53' dry-van.
