Well I got started yesterday on the cutting and chopping on my truck i've been wanting to do for a very long time.:D
Now I know it isn't very pretty right now, but I wanted to show what I did so far. I extended the windows on the sleeper roof, and i'm planning on following the roof for the shape of the sides where the cab meets the sleeper.
Now you all know kiss is definitely different, and I want this truck to be as different.
Here we go...

The paint job I have planned is very cool and unique...it's a secret for right now, and when it comes time for paint, I will share everything.:D
I also have very different ideas for the rock and roll truck.
Now to get busy on the styrene work.
Thanx for looking, Big John

Are you going for a high top Pete with the wind deflector? Or the high top freightliner? Or just a custom non specific truck?

Already I can see the truck is going to be as unique as the band it honors....I may not now what the paint surprise is but I bet I know what the wheels will look like....lol.

Autocar, I had the same idea.;) I forgot to mention, i'm having a matching trailer. I think I can free hand the faces on the trailer because i'm replacing the sides with styrene for a smooth look. I use to draw all the band members faces as a kid...aaah, the good ol' days.
Now i'm kinda:o, what do you mean by "animal"? Gene???

Hey big John, I wasn't sure if you had heard of rcdamper before. There is no website, I found it on eBay. All stuff comes from hong kong. This guy has over 90 various items for tamiya semi trucks alone! The seller name is - Rcdamper
The store name is - Bargain RC&TOYS Store.
I stumbled across it by searching tamiya king hauler parts one day on eBay.ca. I'm in Canada and used the .ca site , not sure if that matters.
If you still have any trouble, send me your email and I'll send you the direct link to the wheels

John, to save you some time and trouble here's what to do......go to eBay, in the search box type tamiya tractor truck, on page 2 of items list ( about 3/4 the way down ) you will see the rears. The word rcdamper and a yellow star are a part of the picture, you won't miss it. The fronts are on page 3 near the bottom.
That should do it! ....while on his page, check out his estore... Lots of cool stuff!

Well I can't keep this a secret, this will be the style of the paint. It look's very complex, but it's as simple as 1, 2, 3.
All you do is get a container deep enough for what you are going to paint, fill with water to submurge your body. Then spray 2-3 or 4 colors, swirl, don't blend dip your body, pull it out, and the water will run off, the paint will stick, and presto, the swirl paint job is done. Add whatever details you want, and clear.:D I couldn't help myself.:p:):D:rolleyes:

im assuming your using enamel not acrylic then? then i see what your saying the colors will kinda float on the top of the water..hmmm not a bad little trick i'll wait to see some step by step pics so i get it right!! Sounds pretty cool though... You know those decals would fit that sleeper pretty well ;) just sayin. you could always get the decal sheets and print your own or have them made to like a vynal wrap in the size you want.. Little more pricey but worth it. look at Russ's toy hauler!!!

Yes, i'll be using dupli-color. When I did the model cars, I used testors model paint. And it just so happens our daughter and her husband lives in Greenwood, In., and they are really close to a mall that has a lot of kiss merchindise. So when the wife and get up there, i'll see what I can find.
And yes, the paint floats.

I think it helped the paint film flow and slowed down dry time so it was flexible and formed to the parts without cracking, there are quite a few companies and websites with info on hydropainting, lots of pre done films available as well but I am unsure as to cost.

John, this may sound a bit mental, but what if you got a second model Gene, so you can keep one as is and use the other to make him fit the truck. You could carefully cut him at the hips and knees etc, re-set them with glue or expoxy, use a little bondo to fill any gaps if necessary, sand and touch up with black paint. If you are able to build a complex cab, you are definitely able to do that and you would not see much of it anyway, but this truck would be SO well finished off to actually have Gene behind the wheel.
Worth considering!

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu217/glorydays24/100_0222.jpg
Put enough water so it would be completly submurged.
http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu217/glorydays24/100_0223.jpg
Sprayed three colors of choice.
http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu217/glorydays24/100_0224.jpg
Now I swirled, (do not mix) the paint. I got into a hurry and forgot to take pic's of swirling and dipping the dash...But I WILL on the body.

On the bunk detail John, you could always build the bunk interior straight on to the bunk floor plan, so that when you lift off the cab, the bunk interior is left bolted to the frame rails. If you can picture the bunk interior only being half the height of the actual sleeper, you could in fact, make a box, or roof over the interior so that you can fit the electronics on top of the bunk, but it will be all housed and hidden in the upper portion of the sleeper but you can easily access it by lifting off the cab. You can then have a detailed bunk interior and opening door and still have full MFU if you like.
Hope that makes sense, if not, I can scan a sketch and email it to you.
You can always stick a small MP3 player in the trailer, that will have a ton of space there.

Yeah Ha....I have lots of ideas and the problem I have is that I can't actually build myself for quite some time. I have no workshop, no time (always travelling with work) and very, very little funding due to property investments that have gone sour, so I have to enjoy this hobby through you guys and your projects. So forgive me for bouncing ideas around, but it helps me feel a little more involved in the hobby than I actually am right now.
I love the mirrors BTW, fit in great with the wipers. If you manage to squeeze in something that reflects each band members face as such, it will work very well overall.
I had previously come across a project on another forum that is on the same path as what I mentioned above. I'll try find it again and get you some reference pics.
That's cool about your family name. Yes it is a small world. Seems quite a lot of Americans are of Irish decent if you look back far enough. We are known for going to the far corners of the earth. Little fact for you, the population of Ireland is only 4.5 million, but there are 25 million Irish passports OUTSIDE of Ireland. Just shows, there are much more of us living abroad than at home!
Looks like I will be in St. Louis / Chicago for a week in Sept. It's a work thing and still be defined, but I am hoping there will be a truck meet somewhere nearby around that time. Would be great to meet some of you guys and see some of the projects in the flesh.

Well last night I made a door for the sleeper, got the hinge mounted, and put the door on. I opened the door and it only opened about 1/4 of the way.:( So I looked it over and relised the edge with the hinge was touching the frame edge. So I thought I could trim away just enough to get by...well I was WRONG!!!:( I messed it up so bad I don't want any pic's...but I can fix it.:) I decided to cut the door frames a little bigger, and that way when I open the doors you can see a little bit more of the sleeper interior...I guess it was a happy mistake.:p;):):D:rolleyes:

I don't think you are allowed to post live ebay links on here unless they are your own, but if you go to an auto parts store, just get one of those LED wands, they are 12V obviously, but might work. I bought a set years ago never used them. They just flash in time with sound, picked up by an internal mic. Quickest and easiest way to do it. They change color too. Could could fit between chassis rails or whatever, depending on what size you get.

I used to haul around a stage trailer for a stage company in SLC. This trailer was 45' long. the sides lifted up to make the roof of the stage. then inside of them were two more pieces that folded down to make the floor of the stage. both the roof and the floor had two parts to each that made the roof 45' x 42' and the floor 45' x 40'. it was all hydrolic. the roof had all the mounts for lighting and speakers built into it and had rams on all four corners of the center 8' section that allowed it to be lifted up to 20' above the stage floor.

That sounds like a serious challenge! I'm sure it's possible, for someone who is very comfortable with hydraulics. I bet Freddy could have done it for sure, but most would certainly struggle. It would definitely be mind blowing to watch the whole thing transform from a box trailer into a full blown gig ready stage automatically, right before your eyes!
