Looks amazing Ari! I'm not sure if I missed the info but what are you using for the hydraulic pump and valves? Are you going to make your own?

Keep up the great work!
Reg

I'm using Jung pump and Kampfer valves: http://www.123modellbau.de/modules/wsShop/article.php?article_id=301569&location_id=47&cat_id=52019

Ari, did you plan the complete support structure for the panels in advance or do you decide as you go along?

Those square holes are milled with 1.5mm tool and skid the plates with 3mm radius mill.

I had some vision in my mind but it often changes on the way:)

Got the rest of the anti-skid plates done and also the hinged center section of the engine cover.

Oh :o, now when changes glasses I can see the radius on the square holes. Looks familiar with holes on my hood, guess they have same supplier there.
What speed can you go with a 1,5mm mill? 4"/min??

Coming along Nicley Ari ..Your attention to detai is awsome ..Pretty much giving it your own signature with all the little changes ,extras and add ons ..When your milling out the smaller holes can you pretty much cut through the thinner guage material or do you have to make multi passes with those fine bits..Feed rates make a difference as well? Thanks Ari and Nice work

With those smaller bits I like to take several small passes with a higher feed rate.

Today I managed to make the upper cooler grill:)

Thanks Reg, I hoping to get the hydraulics up and running in few weeks, just missing filters and the tank.
I'm anxious to see how my cylinder will hold the pressure:confused:
To be honest there's still a lot to do, and it always seems to get harder and harder towards the end.

Here's the lower grill:)

Yes I did. They will send you a invoice to your email and you must pay that in advance.
It's simple to do in Europe when using those IBAN and BIC numbers but I don't know if are you able to use them when paying from outside EU.

OK I'll try them again . worst case I cut them myself . I already have it programmed . It's just a good couple hours to cut in the mill in steel .

I got the hydraulic system up and running to test leaks and found one on the stick cylinder tubing:o I fix that and made a little video of the test run.
There's 7,2 kg weight on the bucket and it seems to have much more lifting capasity, all though it need lot of counter weight:)

Nice work as always Ari.

I guess it's so powerful due to the size of the rams? Am I correct in thinking that the bigger the ID of the cyclinders the more powerful they are?

What's your thoughts on the Kampfer ventil/valves?

What's your thoughts on the Kampfer ventil/valves?

Yes you are right Elliot, larger diameter cylinders are more powerful.
On the down side they also need more capasity from the pump and also larger hydraulic lines.
My cylinders have 18 mm bore, so they are not that large.

I'm very pleased with the Kampfer valves so far:)

I've been working with the counterweight and it's turn out to be nightmare to make:mad: I wish I were able to make it like Steve (ihbuilder) in one piece, but my cam program won't do 3D (I think)
I also did some welding on the counterweight with Durafix but it really does not work well when you have to brace different thicknesses together. The thinner plate tends to expand more while heating and it goes curved, and when everything cools down and shrinks, it doesn't look too good:mad:
I'm seriously thinking about buying small TIG welder, it looks like you can make very small welds with it without heating the parts too much. Been watching Reg's Kenworth 850 build and hope I can some day learn to weld that well:)

Thanks for the ego boost! I think a TIG would serve you very well Ari. It can be a little challenging at times especially when welding two different thicknesses of material(at least for me). It would be nice for you to be able to weld together some things instead of drilling and threading for fasteners. CNC cut panels would weld together sooooo nice! Keep up the great work! This machine is awesome!

You are very talented men and always adding extra star to the forum. The speed is just perfect, it’s a big machine and as that, it`s suppose to have more power than speed and you already have it. I do have question dough. Do you have plans to make it just for you as a hobby or planning to produce it so we can have that pleasure too? Hi Ari, your speed is just perfect. In your opinion, what RPM is the best? I am planning per minute 1,000 turns. Your 374D is just perfect.

I'm not sure what is the best rpm for the pump, and I haven't been able to measure the rpm mine runs. I have this motor running the pump with about 3:1 reduction
http://www.hobbydirekt.de/Robbe2/Robbe/Elektromotoren/ROXXY-BL-OUTRUNNER-4250-07-Robbe-1-4781-4781::78196.html
It starts to produce 10 bars at very low rpm, the max pressure is set to 30 bar now.

Hi Ari! You have created an incredible model so far and I believe to share the same thoughts as everybody also in the forum. You are going to finish it at its best just the way you do every time. Thanks for sharing your talents and hoping that you have lots of enjoyment with this unique machine of yours.:)

Thank you for the compliments Valdosetti:)
This is just a hobby and I don't have any plans to start a mass production of these machines.

The ground was quite hard packed. That's my parents yard i'm digging, and my dad told me that that spot has not been touched in 20 years.

There's still work to do with the cab, I'm about to purchase a tig welder to get that done.

So here's the video I promise, as many of you have noticed:)

Wow! That was so pretty. Ari, I bought 2 blocks of hard Aluminium 7075 for boom structure. Is there any specific shape of "bones" to support boom? I just felt not many people build excavator here.
It seems that you are using 6mm tubes for Hydraulics, is that 4mm inside?
Many thanks!
Kevin

Are you going to make the boom out block that you machine hollow or how?

My cylinder tubes are mostly 5/3mm.

I know I should use my machines more, but I guess I like more of the building process.

And about those details, they really are fragile, made of 2mm brass rod they bend quite easy:mad:
The carrying it is the most dangerous moment for the details, it's so heavy you have to keep it close to your body and everything that sticks out might get damaged:mad:

I think I would enjoy playing with my models if someone else was around to join in the fun. I don't really live near anybody that's into this so it's always just me by myself and I get bored really quickly. When I'm in the shop though I want to be left alone so that I can concentrate! My Volvo fits in the trunk of my car but you have to tip it over quite a bit to get it through the opening. If it had detail like yours it would most certainly get wrecked. I have too many big models to move now though so I guess I will be using the pickup truck from now on. Lots of room there but wide open to the elements and burns fuel like it's going out of style!

Not much to report here:( I've been disassembling the excavator for easier painting.
I also have been practicing tig welding with varying success:eek:
I can weld aluminium over 2mm thick, but I'm struggling with thinner materials when welding corner and but joints. Especially when the other part is narrow and other is bigger I tend to melt the narrow part through
I was trying to weld the cab side to the front window frame which is about 6mm wide and it melt through:(

I've definitely been there! The only difference is my pieces weren't as pretty as yours before I ruined them.lol You would think that it would be easy but it's really not. I think I have improved with time(you will too) but I've also learned that there are some things that "I" just don't have the ability to weld. I often weld pieces together before cutting out windows or drilling holes. This often makes the welding possible but the hole cutting a pain in the a$$. I also sometimes make small parts oversize and trim them to the proper shape or size after welding. All that makes the job more time consuming but there is nothing worse than spending hours on a part only to melt a big hole in it and having to start again!

You'll get it. Does the welder have a pulse setting? I find it helps to use it on the thin stuff sometimes especially with longer beads. I am using .050 5052 aluminum on the boat that I'm working on and it seems to weld OK but I definitely have to be more careful than with the .063 that I'm used to. How thick is the cabs sheet metal?

Wow, that is really tight:cool:

Do you have so perfectly configured/modificated machine or you have some trade secrets that you use to get that tolerance? I can get something about 0.05mm usually on my parts, if all goes well it is sometimes even 0.01mm, but it really varies on part to part.

Welding the cab was a struggle and I managed to destroy several parts while doing that. It's welded now, but I'm not totally happy about the results:mad:

Hi Ari,
Awesome and extremely detailed. I am having problem to seal the join completely...between cylinder and tube. I cannot blaze this area since hydraulic tube already attached to cylinder. High heat will burn out tube.

Kevin, you might try soldering it with normal tin, it melts at lower temperature and doesn't melt the brazing. You need a gas torch and you must get all the oil of the seam.

Got the cab painted:)

I made a simple quick coupler for the 374. I made so that it fits to the original bucket with out modification. It probably isn't correct CAT style but will see how it holds up:o
I haven't the correct hydr. lines for it yet, so I've only test it with air and it seems to work.

Well you're just on fire now!

I can see problems with that design with the holes not lining up just right & some outside interference (your hand) needed to make sure it locks fully into place... somebody I know has designed and built the ultimate failsafe coupler, maybe he'll share his secret with you for a 100% hands free lock into place every time. You're on the right track though, but you just need to redo a small part of it. ;)

Well I was giving props to what you did Kalle, your coupler works flawless... I've done it hundreds of times now and no hand adjustments to get it to fit & lock or release. The only thing I'd consider changing is going to hyd actuated for a quicker change & no worries of the timed esc to get out whack and burn out the actuator motor.

Wow what a fantastic beautifully engineered model,

Does anyone know the dipper/stick width of the 374d where it connects to the bucket,

Thanks
Steve

Hi Ari

Please make what ever you like as long as you share it with all of us on here.:)
It has been a real pleasure to watch the model evolve to completion.
Really top class work.:)

look forward to hearing what you have chosen and in time the first posts of construction.

Thanks Mark

The tires are from Premacon, but the wheels are self made.

You should build the 777 with a coal hauler. Plus you could make a trailer to haul your excavator and or other equipment.

Inspirational projects, do you have CAD files available for this?

So have you made any dust with this machine in the last yr, or is it just collecting dust?

I've been hoping to see more videos of your 14M... that'd sure be a great asset to the Lil Giants fleet & put to good use. ;) :D

It's mainly collecting dust, but I'm hoping when I get the A40 finished some day, I will start moving some dirt;)

I sold the 14M over a year ago, so no more videos by me:(

Really?! :( You sell it within your region/nearby? Does the new owner use it & post videos somewhere?

It's actually in Norway now. I've seen it on a few videos on Youtube.

I took the 374 with me to our summer cottage and the idea was to practice digging and make some videos.
But unfortunately after about half an hour it blew one of the return hoses and all the hydraulic oil came out:mad:
The hose clamp made a cut to the tubing and that was easy to fix, but off course I did not took the oil can with me:(
So that was it, I only managed to make this video:

Looking pretty smooth Ari, you must have been practicing with it lots lately.

A nicely treed area, do you get there much during the summers & how far away from home is it? Looks like great soil to dig in.

We spent there about one weekend in a month, and longer periods in the holiday season.
It's little over two hour drive from home.

This is probably off topic, but here's some aerial footage of the area that I shot with my Phantom 3:)

Smooth operating on both the Phantom and the 347! I agree the terrain looks very similar to us way over here on the west coast. Very cool:cool::cool:

Hei

Ihan käsittämättömän hienoa käden jälkeä. Ja kun seurasin projektisi aikajanaa meillä hallitus kyllä saisi hepulin jos käyttäisin aikaa yhtä paljon omiin touhuinini.. :p

Kunhan ennätän katselen kaikki mahdolliset videosi ko. laitteista.

Onko tällä hetkellä menossa mitään projektia?

T. Otto :)

I'm now using the Servonaut HS12 radio with 3D sticks on this 374 and I love it. I think the controls are more precise when I can rest my hands on the console.
I took a video of 374 while testing the new radio, nothing special, only small drama in the end while the bank collapses while I'm lifting a heavy rock:(
