Well I am doing a build for a member here but he sent it to me just for parts because that is all it was worth. The genius who built it used 6 leaf springs and mounted them all solid at both ends so it had 0 suspension travel. The truck had no gear reduction other than the trans so I have no idea of what they had planed to do with it. A fast semi with no suspension.:confused: The motor wires were attached to the ESC wires by twisting them together and wrapping tape around them and the receiver was mounted right next to the end of the motor so I guess they weren't worried about glitching.

The good news is it is stripped down to never be seen in person again.:D

What is with almost everyone's dislike of offroad trucks? :(

Sure, a stiff suspension is not very useful, but look at those and tell me that they are not cool:

www.google.co.uk/search?q=oilfield+trucks

A nicely done offroad truck would IMO certainly stand out at a show and not just because of its height.

The real off road trucks are cool and if the models are done right they are cool too, but the way this one looked it was more toy like than anything. Aluminum wheels and chrome accessories don't really look off road. Big wheels alone don't make an off road truck.

It is not that it had a stiff suspension it had no suspension. Yes the oil field and off road trucks are cool but it has to be done right and TamiyaCowboy here on the forum did it right.

Click here to see it done right. (http://www.rctruckandconstruction.com/showthread.php?t=5)

Hi Travis!

I think it had potential to be modified into a cool and functional offroad truck, that's all.
Hence I was surprised to see such negative comments.

Good luck with your new build
Jens

Hi Claus!

> Big wheels alone don't make an off road truck.
You don't say!
Offroad duallies are quite rare (both for models and 1:1s) and so I thought it would have been nice to maintain this characteristic feature of the original build and work on its shortcomings.

Hi JensR!

Your right it had some potential for an off road truck but the negative comments were more about the hack who built the truck just to try and cash in on the look of an off road truck and make a quick buck.

I for one have no problem pointing these guys out who just want to make the quick buck after seeing the interest forum members show in a certain type of truck and this one was no different. The truck I tore apart was just a wast of good parts.

Here is another good example of a prime mover done right, a fantastic truck by tracksntreadslou.

I don't know the name of who made it right off hand but it was the one raiders was selling on the B/S/T a while back and I think tc1cat bought one as well so I will ask him who made it. It is a really nice set up with a lot of articulation but it was a pain to get it all set up on the truck. I really enjoy this hobby and it does relax me but that suspension had me cussing before I was done.

No the original front axle was a TLT axle which is not bad but it could be a bit narrower. The best option out right now are the Integy axles but you have to use their rears as well since the gear ratio is different than the Tamiya axles. Here is a link to a thread where I used the Integy axles.

Here is part 3 of the 3 builds I am doing for this member. I modified it from its original version to look more like the member wanted it to. It was a really good platform to start with. There was not really anything wrong with it we just wanted to clean and change it up a little

Before

What we went off of for Ideas.

After

Here is the pic of the interior that I thought would be just right for the operator but the owner was not as thrilled as I was.

After seeing it in many pieces, you my friend are a master builder to say the least. The new interior looks much more prototypical than what you started with. Spudd is getting a work of art :D:D
