Crazy. What's the deal with the transporting of the shuttle, by truck, anyway? I was only ever aware of NASA moving the shuttle around with their crawler platform.

Better gas mileage! Kidding - no idea! But yeah, you are right, it's usually the custom crawler.

I think they didn't use the NASA crawler because they moved the Enterprise to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in NYC. Either way cool photos, thanks for sharing!

Doesn't the crawler move the shuttle in a vertical stance with boosters... Just googled it.. Yep.. and they use 350L of fuel Per Km... Or 0.007 Mpg.

So I think the better gas mileage might be one factor...
