Hey guys,

well, after a long absence I want to show you my latest model.
Just for fun I bidded on a used Mercedes 1838 on EBay. Didn´t think of getting it, but.........

After a few days, I got a box. After opening I found this:

As you can see, there´s some parts missing, like the fenders and the sunshield, but the guy who sold mentioned that, so that´s ok!

Before I started to take it apart, I did a little testrun......
The gearbox sounded somehow strange, so I opened it first.
This was horrible:

All those of you that have build a Tamiya-Truck once know, what the blue stuff is....
So I took the gearbox completely apart, cleaned it and put some grease on it, now it´s fine again.

The rest of the Truck needed a close inspection after I found this. Ther guy who built this one had no clue or simply didn´t use/read/understand the construction manual:confused::confused::confused:!!
Most of the screws where wrong (short one needed, long ones used), etc!!

After i corrected all this, I started to put the Merc back together, giving him some new parts, like a Poison Truck Motor, new speed controller, wide rims and tires.
I decided to paint it in a dark red, the color of a local company, specialized on heavy-weight transports.
Finally it looks like this:

Did some more details on the Truck. First, I hided the wiring in the cabin, so this looks much better now:

Then I put a Poison Truck motor in and re-installed the gearbox. The guy who build this one first overturned the schrew in the pinion-gear that bad, that I had to drill a new hole and cut new windings!
But even after overhauling the gears, they still "sing" very loud. I guess, the only solution will be in changing all the gears some time!

Nice work... do you have any tips/advice on how to make clean rectangular holes for the sidemarker leds on the fenders ?

Hello coligny,

first I drilled a small hole with a 0,1mm driller. Then I used this one to cut the material away. After that I used a very fine file to finish the hole. I used some of the yellow squre rear-lights from Tamiya and cut matching pieces out. Finally, I glued some SMD-Led´s with 5 minute-epoxy in the inside of the fender.

I hope, this helps!

Ok thanks, I will try that ASAP... I now have quite a stock of rectangular leds (2x5mm) to put to good use...
