this was to be done for indy and just show up finished  Well doo to reason beyond my control , I will not make it again :( . So @*&% it , I'll just share the build with you all . I'm going back to the days I started in this hobby and not finding a single component available to my liking ( well almost ) . a little history on the cab shield it was the norm for "coal buckets" in my area to have extremely large cab shield since they mostly hauled coal . I liked that feature , so I decided to meld it into a newer style body :D make and model of truck will still remain a mystery :D:p Well as I said :back to my 1st days " everything except : gears , bearings motor , pump , cylinder(maybe?) all electrics ,lights/bezels , and tires . will be completely built by yours truly ;) . nuff typin

Nice build Steve, not going to guess at the cab but the bucket looks identical to the 1:1's we had around the Elkhart Indiana area. It was a demolition company that had about 4 twin steer, quad axle Western Stars. They had a lot of other stuff but I always remembered those. Keep the pic's coming this will be fun to watch especially since its all you from the ground up!:D

thanks , Craig . It's not easy  and it drives me crazy when they're sitten on the bench weeks at a time not gettin anything done to them  seems every time I plan a few hrs for my stuff , I gotta go some where or the old man needs help . so I gotta make up that time when I want to doo my stuff .

Steve, the bed looks great. I really like the sides too. Looks a lot like an East smooth side welded aluminum dump box to me. Whether or not that is what you have your sights set on, for modeling, I'm not sure. I don't know what the coal tubs are built from, but it looks really nice.

thanks Nate , I kinda muti-bred this box :o most smooth sides around here have a narrowed/short cab protector - none .
the body is pretty much done , I got lil details to doo yet like coal shoot, steps, gate latches, and tarp . I'm not sure about polishing yet  thinking of weathering it . I am getting a crazy thought about making the cab out of aluminum or brass  body mounted with a temp. vovo t bar susp  I'm still up in the air on the walking beam verses chalmers

well I was told I have to get a smaller tip and nozzle . I finally got an auto dark helmet  I'm still in the dark as to what filler alloy to use . I've been cutting off my .0625" spool from my mig with good results , But this forney crap is just that  It beads at the end of the rod and ruins the part  I finally got to see a day cab W900L up close yesterday to see where I screwed up on the roof detail :o :( back to the cad  and scratchin my head some more on the 3d drawing
