Oh man that's bada$$! Always wanted to see one of these done, especially with the period correct striping! Perfect too since I've always thought the stock steps and tanks from the King have a Freightliner Classic look to 'em.

Nice job!

As of right now its not.I need to modify the axle and see how it goes from there.

That's cool. I've been stuck on a design of a functional lift axle for a while know.

I'm using a steerable reefer axle so there are no axle shafts to get in the way.I have seen other people use pieces of copper pipe to link halves together while keeping the center open for the drive shaft. If I run the battery in the frame ails it wont be lifting. If I get a locker box for the battery I'll have room for it to lift.Waiting on Russ for his lift axle design, hopefully he comes up with something.

Yea I'm looking forward to see what Russ comes out with. I actually have the brass and the axle to modify. But I'm still at a lose as to how to set up and hide the servo that does the lifting.

I have seen many different ways.I was going to use linkages and a cantilever arm so I could hide the servo.I thought that would be the best way.But I'm still on my learning curve,so alot of trial and error.

There are alot of threads out there to look at.Look at some of the European forums. They have there stuff together. They think things out and over engineer but in the end it's a class act.Thats where I found my plan for multiple lift and steering axles.I'll see if I still have the link.

Fred, the shaker is looking awsome!:cool:
I'm just learning too. I managed to stuff a standard size Futaba servo into my truck for the fifth wheel release, no room for error.
Now I learned to go with a micro servo on Sue's truck. Way easier to work with:)
If you go with a lever system for the drop axle.would a linear servo work well for room and strength?

Thanks for the pics and the updates

Can't say enough about your Freightliner, stunning build, very nice.
I to have a lift axle under construction, plan is to put my fifth wheel and lift axle servo in the sleeper and use aircraft control surface cable for actuation. Should be able to hide it pretty well in the rails and if you get the style that runs through plastic tubing it'll look like air lines.

Thanks Mario!!I think a linear would be bigger then a servo.I'll have to look in to that, good idea. And I havent even thought about the 5th wheel yet,I might have to take a look at your build for some Idea on that.I'm learning as I go.

Thanks Buddy!! I have thought about the cable as well.My concern was the cable binding up or sticking due to dirt getting clogged in it.I thought with linkages it would be direct for 1 or more axles.Of coarse I would have a shock in between the axle and arm so I would still have suspension and would not lift drive axles of the gound. There are many ways to do it, but I guess We all have to pick one and try it and go from there.

Man I must have completely missed this thread....that old freightliner is cool. I like the old school spokes on it....wish trucks of today still had the class that these rigs had....Seams not to long ago we would see these trucks all the time....now you have to keep your eyes out for them
