Hello everyone, I'm Alex and this is my first thread on this forum.
Im new to rc trucking, but not scale builds as I have build the tamiya cc01 unimog which the thoroughly enjoyed (If only it where 1/14-1/16 :D)

So I thought id do a rc truck build next. I was thinking alog the lines of an 8x8 tipper. I know that the merc arctros is coming to the uk soon and i think i would like to use that as my platform, to create something along the lines of this:

http://zizengineering.com/imgs/a/b/u/g/e/mercedes_benz__actros_4146_k_8x6_tipper_langendorf _mp_3_2010_1_lgw.jpg

I found this web site (http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?depth=2&hl=en&prev=/search%3Fq%3Drc%2Blastebil%2Bforum%26hl%3Den%26saf e%3Doff%26biw%3D1280%26bih%3D609%26prmd%3Dimvns&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=no&twu=1&u=http://modellteknikk.mamutweb.com/Shop/List/Tippkasser-og-Tilbeh%25C3%25B8r/82/1&usg=ALkJrhjdBWTNlN4QvAOAZnExDdJ5ym6HvA) that sells dump bins, however i think the mechanism is a bit too expensive for me.

I need your knowledge to help me create my dream rc truck.
- How do I turn the arctos into an 8x8 - adding 2 steer wheels at the front?
- Where do I get a relatively in expensive dump bin and mech. (Do I need to make the mech myself, using a fergil actuator or a screw drive) ?
- What parts do I need?

Thank you very much for you time.

- Alex

Alex - as for the dump - I suggest styrene - it's easy to work with and plenty strong. as for the mechanism - firgelli are easy and contained but a little bulky - a DIY screw drive can be achallenge if your new at it - but it affords you more flexability. AS for steering - look into the TLT front axel - it's economical - but a little wide, space out your rears to match? There are other options for front drives as well - I here that Integy just un-leashed some new axels. There are other twin steer trucks hidden in the forums - go look for them - I bet you will find some other ideas - even on trucks that are not as close to what your building as you think.

Thanks for your advice, I'll start looking into the axles and find other people on the forum.
How do you think I would go about extending the frame?

Thanks

Alex

I agree with izzy with the styrene. As for the frame you could buy new rails from Ric thru the Gardentrucking website. They have steering blocks you can use to link 2 steering axles together. Just have to use some ingenuity. In the forum search if you type in 8x8 it'll show you ones that others have done and posted here.

The RC Tech Section is full of ideas of how to do various things.

Here's one thread for plastic dump bodies.

I just found this: http://www.rigidrc.com/shop/axle-housing/167-alum-cnc-6x6-axle-set-for-tamiya-1-14-truck.html
It looks great! exactly what I'm looking for.
Can anyone tell me what else i would need to complete the transmission?
