I always loved semi trucks and I'm a huge sports car racing fan. So I decided to merge both of my hobbies together on this build!!! I got one of Izzy's toy hauler trailers and this is where I'm at on it. The plan is to have the trailer wrapped and then match it to the tractor.

That's pretty nice! The door opens and closes so smoothly. Are you using a little winch to do the heavy work? RC4WD? Nice job.

Yea, It's an RC4WD winch with a pulley system I made. The plan is get the wireless remote with the winch. I don't know if you seen them, they come with a key fob, pretty sweet setup. Thanks for the positive comments!!!! More to come!

Yes, it will be the weight of the door, still trying to perfect it!!!!!!

Wolf,

How will the car get down from the hump of the axle placement to the ramp?

I'd use a secondary ramp; it'd be hinged to the aft end of the axle hump, and just slides on the back door (or run on guides at the outer edges) When fully up, it is as high as the back door, and when down, would give you a decent slope to roll the car down on.

If you wanted a bit more 'pull' on the ramp(s) you could put a small spring on the hinge, so the spring releases when the door is opened, and is tensioned when its drawn up. Thats IF you find you need one... with the dual-ramp idea, you may not need it.

Well, I just got my body for Probuilder a couple days ago. Thanks again!!! I just mocked up the frame to see how long I want it. I think I'm going to go with an 30" frame as seen in the pic below. What do you guys and gals think? Does it need to be longer or shorter, or where it is? More to come. Thanks, Wolfws6

I believe in keeping it scale. So with that in mind a 300" wheelbase at 1:14 scale would be about a 21.5" wheelbase. That is measuring from the center of the front axle to the center of the first rear axle.

Speaking from experience driving a 300" WB tractor on the street is not easy. There may be longer ones out there on the but I've never seen one.

But in due return I have a 300" WB Wedico pulling a 53' trailer and it handles very well.

Longer the better to a point the drive nice as a rc and ride like a rolling cloud in the 1:1 310 is my preferred length.. By the way wheel base is measured by going from the center of front hub to the center between the drives..

wedico looks pretty good I like the Husky trailer.

Frame length looks good with the sleeper should be a good looking large car.

I've always liked between 280-310" wheelbase. I also agree you measure center of front axle to between tandems. Build all my models that way.

Not to step on any toes here but after owning a trucking company for over 20yrs and driving for over 20yrs I have been inspected by many Motor Carrier Enforcement officers and they have always measured the wheel base on my tractors by measuring from the center of the front hub to the center of the hub on the first rear axle, and same holds true when we were measured going into canada because there wheelbase law is 245" and they measured it the same way.

Thats the way truck lines do it around here that is coming from a board member that runs a very large fleet of trucks and also helps another company with there LTL and trucks.

Of all the bloody years I've been (re)building and getting modified titles . On a tandem axle truck , WB is measured from the center of the front most axle to the center of the tandems . Thats what they want on the app. and that's how it was explained to us by the local manufactures that have helped us with the paper work . Canada my be different , IDK . Bridge law goes by a different measure .

I drove and owned big trucks for a good part of my life and have always used center of the front axle to the center of the first rear axle in reference to the wheel base. When buying the truck, when referring to the truck to buy parts and to pay fines for over length. That's the way it has always been.

I think you measure front axle to center of front drive for axle spacing, and front axle to between tandems for wheelbase. I've seen this discusion go on in many other forums before, with no end in sight. I drive a Freightliner Cascadia daycab every day, and inside the glovebox it says it has a 184 wheelbase on the data sticker. I took a tape measure to it and it measured 184" from the center of the steer axle to the empty space right between the tandems.

Thats the correct way in the USA. Axel spacing and wheel base are 2 diffrent measurments. on a 3 axel tractor the Wheel base is measured from center of front axel to center of tandems. my build sheet from Mack in 1977 shows i have a 206" WB when I measured to center of tandems It indeed is 206".

front axel to first rear axel spacing has more to do with bridge weight laws.

we did frame stretching for years, you measure from the front axle to the center of tandems or trunnion, for measuring for box install you go back of cab to center of trunnion.

I got the wrap installed and all 220 led lenses. I ended up just designing my own design instead of coping the real thing. I hand painted all the bezels on the lenses. I also installed the chrome fender flares. Where the white is in the stripes will be chrome stripes. I still have too wire all the leds and get the roof, rear door and the tail light panel chromed. Looking good man, are you going to put a generator box on the nose?. Now you just needs big old KW to pull that around. They have 3 of them that pull the different featherlite trailers. I actually just got home from long beach and had followed the corvette guys out of the track. That thing is low, watch those curbs! Ask me how i know.....Here is the truck I drive at work...

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f200/lmackattack/trucks/utf-8BSU1BRzAxNDkuanBn.jpg (http://s47.photobucket.com/user/lmackattack/media/trucks/utf-8BSU1BRzAxNDkuanBn.jpg.html)

Just for fun....Here is my truck pulling an champcar trailer back from road America in 2007. I laugh at this pic because my truck when new had a 36" bunk at one time and there is no way I would have been able to have pull this monster if the bunk was still on. I had to remove my pogo stick just so the gen box could swing . The pogo stick mounted directly behind the bunk, when I backed under it the pogo stick was 2" away from the nose of the gen box.....how times and length laws have changed.

Awesome rig! really blew me away. i actually was looking through this build and thought to myself that i liked how it was ooking without headlights and thought about them in the bumper. then continue on and there you have it. i think id have to agree with lilgiant tho i think it would look better recessed either way truck is amazing! keep up the great work cant wait to see it finished!
Thank you for the kind comments!!!!! I'll figure it out the front bumper eventually. Right now I'm doing dreaded body work.

Small update: All the things on the cab are finally mounted! Got the clearance lights, horns, air cleaners and lights. The fenders are mounted also. I fixed the visor so it doesn't cover the doors. I don't know what style stacks i'm going to use(kinda liking these strait ones today). I can now start to finish the body work. Thank you.

Really coming along nicely and it looks the part of a real decked out KW ...I like the aerodyne sleeper and aluminum tanks,boxes...etc....one thing that sticks out to me tho is the black air cleaner intake pipe..it looks kinda small? Or will you be covering that with aluminum trim like some guys add on?

Keep the updates coming

Thank you!!!! I have to agree with you on the air cleaner tube. It's one that comes with the PMD ac's. I have no Idea if I'm going to make shields for them or make somthing different? :D

Haven't decided if on how many lights I'm going to do yet. I'm still debating on if I should put any on top of the sleeper roof! Or get rid of the horns and pack'em on there. can't decide.

The stripes look great, wolfws6. Are my eyes playing tricks on me? The chrome stripe on your trailer is bordered with a black pinstripe. The truck cab looks like it has a black stripe bordered with a chrome pinstripe? Nice touch with the Jake logo on the 5th wheel plate cover and back of the sleeper!

No your eyes are fine!!! I'm going to change the trailer stripes to match the tractor. Chrome stripes highlighted by black turned out to be to much for the tractor!! So I'm changing that. Thank you!!!

I always loved semi trucks and I'm a huge sports car racing fan. So I decided to merge both of my hobbies together on this build!!! I got one of Izzy's toy hauler trailers and this is where I'm at on it. The plan is to have the trailer wrapped and then match it to the tractor.

wolfws6

How does the shell of the trailer stay on and wire in?

If your talking about the transport trailer, It's all aluminum shell that screws together. The lights and wiring are all self contained to the trailer and do not hook to the tractor.

Thank you
