Mack Granite with Dump Trailer

Well heres another project ive been working on the last month or 2 its a mack granite conversion and a End dump trailer. Trialer has one of the 5 stage scale art rams and is powered by a UMS pump.
Thank you Ed, Tyler, and Steve for help and input during this build. You all have been very helpful!

Well when you want the best you pay the most and you are right about the German silk I think I paid enough silk to make a shirt with this one LOL!!!!

Scale Art said they would do the cylinders again but the smallest order they will do is 5 cylinders for about 575 euros with shipping, think I might have to do another order.

Yes the cylinder is exactly that scale art im loving it. It can be tempermental until the air bubbles are all out though.. More pics are coming soon. ;)

As long as you like it that's all that matters :) This trailer was worse then the first one.. But I think its coming along nicely. I can say this... I have had every screw on this truck out at one point or another.... (theres a lot of screws....) lol

I did not build this one And if I had the metal tools I don't think it would be too hard to recreate.. But better.. Ill put in a good work with the owner im sure he'll sell it.

Yea its been a pain as you know but its working pretty smooth now. I wanted to make it completely self sufficient but this ram takes way too much fluid. In the videos the pump is actually sitting on the table behind the truck. Video 1 shows it in front of the truck. Everything will be on the truck and trust me that's no easy thing with fitting the battery,2 esc's, pump, receiver, and now having to use 2 tanks for fluid killed the pump hiding in a dummy tank.... No worries ill make it happen one way or another..

Yes the cylinder is from the first purchase last year. I plan of posting more in the next 3 days as I am off and am doing nothing but finishing this combo by Friday! ( I really hope)lol

Well thank you!! Yea not too bad for only a year now in the hobby.. This will make truck 11 or 12 and trailer 10 I think that I have rebuilt or completely built. Im loving it its fun!! Now if I can learn to paint good and do better body work id really crank them out..

It is scratch built but not by me originally... I did however tear it all apart and rebuilt it so it was functional and worked good.

No they are not too bad... This os only one of the Bruder Macks. I hope to start another build In the next few months with another one.

Thanks Tony!! I like both the ribbed and smooth sided trailers.. It wont be as shiny as Benny's but it'll have just the right amount to look good.

OK more pics. Had a few people ask me about the suspension so here you go
PMD Trailer air ride drop arms
Russ's air ride for the arms and "airbag mount"
A lot of adjustments shimming etc. to get the right hight. Rear two axles have springs in them for support. the lift will have empty bags and prob a servo to lift.
Put the rear panel on and you can see it has mud flaps across the entire back and the rear door is slightly polished. Hand polish only on it unlike the sides that were buffed out.

How small is small, for the battery pack? SMALL usually means you are stuck with a 1,600 mili-amp pack or somewhere near that. Can't really get the capacity as high as 5,000 mili-amps with something tiny. In my experience, most 5,000 mili-amp packs are going to be about the size of a 7.2 Sub-C sized 6 cell NiMh pack. Maybe a touch smaller.

Well it depends.... If I end up making front door windows on the mack and blacking them out ill have to put the battery there.... But where I was going to put the battery the pump now has to go.. Still trying to make it all fit somehow.

I have to run duel fluid tanks due to the fluid volume needed to run the cylinder, original plans were to put the pump in a dummy tank..

Turnigy 4000 mili-amp, which is a little less then you might want, but it's one of the more compact battery packs I've seen. No idea of the quality though. I'm not really a LiPo guy.

Ok so heres an update.. was Looking at the cylinder mount and didn't like that it was made out of the thinnest possible sheet metal possible :mad: (doghouse or whatever you call it) So I decided to venture into metal work :eek: :cool: Well I can say this I need better tools but for only using snips and a vise im pleased with it. so heres the thin POS that broke lifting 20lbs

Ok so then there was the issue as to where the ----- to put the pump now... So since I was all into cutting metal with the snips today I cut some more, and some plastic and it resulted in this.

So hopefully tomorrow I can get everything soldered in and secured electrical wise. The Battery will just have to sit in the front seat for now until I figure a better idea for it. hmmmm Let me ask this.... If I Run a BEC off a 7.2 to run the pump and servos, can I run the esc for the drive off a separate battery thru the same receiver if I clip the red wire? I have a 11v battery I can run the drive off of but the pump is only 7.2 max.... suggestions?

As for running two different battery packs - one for the pump, and one for the truck's drive motor, you should be able to do that without a problem, and use the same receiver for both. Assuming your ESC are identical, you don't have to worry about pulling the red wire of off one ESC, even though they will be running different battery packs and voltages. Their internal BEC output should be almost identical, regardless. If your ESCs are different, and have different internal BEC output ratings, then pick the ESC that has the more capable internal BEC, and pull the red wire off the ESC that you don't want to use. Or, buy an external BEC, and pull the terminal pin for the red wires off both ESCs. There are a couple different ways it can be done.

OK truck is fully functional minus the new tanks that are on their way. So heres all the wires done I still may add a second battery if I cant find a big enough MAH battery that fits. Heres some teaser pics no videos until the new tanks arrive.... :rolleyes:

here is an idea for ya for powering this whole unit off one battery solder a bec to your battery cable an use your 11.1 pack and set the bec to 7.2 volts and then solder that to your pumps power leads just an idea is all.
