I always put a layer of wax over any aluminum or chrome that I polish on my everyday vehicle. The only thing is you need to make sure you buff it or it will leave white marks. I use Meguiars. Lets see what the others have to say

There ia a liquid called Shark hide or Shark skin that takes care of that. Eastwood sells it. Ed

You can clear coat aluminum for protection...but the problem is that where ever it chips the clear coat it will dull and you will see it. They also sell a product that is sprayed/buffed on that will help maintain the aluminum many use it on semi truck rims that see a lot of road grime to help keep them clean.

Using my experience with aluminum car wheels as a guide, I prefer none coated wheels because you can let them go then buff them back to a mirror finish. It's the same with the aluminum wheels on my scale trucks. Years pass, buff, new again!

I agree semi crazy... Even with 1:1 truck rims or car rims. Long term was always easy with non coated rims.
