I like the idea of updating the look of that truck!! I also love those rear fenders, make another set or keep those. Also some big stacks would look awsome. Keep up the good work!!!!!

I totally dig your concept with the todays version! I could see painted or aluminum fenders on this rig, also some nice stacks and visor. To me if you do that, and its all shiny then the fenders should be also. I really like the paint job also. Nice build! :D

I say polished fenders, but then you have to do the same on the trailer....nice polished quarter fenders on the trailer too match. You'll have enough paint matching going on between the tractor n trailer, add the bling now. Just my thoughts.

Nice looking Kenworth,id say put polished fenders on the tractor and trailer, that would look hot, maybe even a spread axle on the reefer

It's gotta be a spread.....a truck that was that kool back then, would absolutely have a bad *** matching spread axel reefer behind it.

yep i am leaning towards that, and i agree there will be enough painting on the truck and trailer ...need some shiney stuff..thanks my fellow builders;)

Man i remember watching BJ and The Bear growing up. The truck and trailer look excellent!! Starts singing.....................
Hey there where ya goin',
Not exactly knowin'
Who says you have to call just one place home.
He's goin' everywhere,
B.J. McKay and his best friend Bear.
He just keeps on movin',
Ladies keep improvin'
Every day is better than the last.
New dreams and better scenes,
And best of all I don't pay property tax.
Rollin' down to Dallas,
Who's providin' my palace,
Off to New Orleans or who knows where.
Places new and ladies, too,
I'm B.J. McKay and this is my best friend Bear.
Keep up the great work!!!:D

Awsome looking truck I have the tri axle reefer made by Tamiya and removed the center axle so it is a spread axle reefer and put a set of polished custom built tool boxes between the existing two axles. That would look insane for this build. Just a thought.

That's looking pretty cool. I was hoping you'd go with a big drop visor, painted, or polished. They look so much better then the stock jobs that Kenworth offered from the factory. If it was my truck, I would go with a set of full fiberglass style fenders, painted to match the truck. Just like this...

well here are some updates on this build.i went with the old school exhaust with the mufflers but mitre cut the tops, added the 2 lights on each corner of the bumper(russ true scale r-c) and i got russ to cut me the louvered grill insert for the kw k-100 grill on this truck, scratchbuilt the air cleaner, made the aluminum drop visor out of aluminum sheet ,still need to add the trailer light cord, catwalk, and rear aluminum full fenders.i started work on the trailer and will post more pics when it is near or completed http://i1085.photobucket.com/albums/j436/1985kenworth/2014-02-23_17-49-29_788_zps5cc2b850.jpg (http://s1085.photobucket.com/user/1985kenworth/media/2014-02-23_17-49-29_788_zps5cc2b850.jpg.html)

the bezels were made from thin sheet styrene and the lens are made from the crazy eyes package you find in the craft stores ,.they are called crazy eyes and the are flat eyeballs with a black round plastic piece inside that look like pupils of the eyes and the roll around inside .they come in different sizes and you cut out the backs take out the black piece and trim of the access ,as you see the front lense part is crystal clear and they make great headlight lens

That looks awesome. The Kenworth is very sharp. The Peterbilt must have been in for service - needed the fuel turned up so it could chase down a Valiant? :D Quite a contrast between trucks. One is all shiny and the other came out of a junk yard.

here it is finally done!!! i put just a slight spread on it ,chromed the front headboard with the old school style reefer unit.i used red anodized wheel nuts for the trailer .i custom did the rear doors to look like the new style reefer doors with the mirror polished look.i also made my own mudflaps with the thin sheet rubber and sheet aluminum ,sanded and polished them for that mirror polished look on the mudflaps hope you like it ..wait until you see whats next?

The rear doors on the reefer look great. Maybe what you need now is a couple red bunk lights to shine and reflect off that polished headboard on the trailer!

BAD *** beautiful truck.... I have one question though. I noticed everyone building these B.J. and Bear trucks keep forgetting to add the gold pin stripe that goes around the black stripe around cab.I am not sure if anyone noticed that or if it would be to hard to try and replicate being that is a thin line. I am not trying to take anything away from this build or any of the others just mentioning it...Great work.

I think it turned out great. Another Late 70s Classic looking Rig is nice to see. What did you use for the rear door and trailer sides. I have been looking for that for a van trailer I was building

the trailer sides come with the tamiya box trailer .the rear doors i custom made the diamond pattern shape and covered it with mirror polish thin chrome wrap they use on r/c airplane wings etc.
