Hi. It just might not be in the right corner. but I thought You would like to see this build.

schoolbusses might be as common as trees in the us, in holland they ( the old US-schoolbusses) are moustly used as promotional verhicle.
The zoo in my hometown has made one really special.
and I'm going to try to build that one. and get close as I can.

http://imageshack.us/a/img16/9303/izp0191pers.jpg

the butget for building this one is limmited, as is the time. this one should be finished in half a year.
It will be build mainly out of plywood, the outerskin will be aluminium sheet. some other parts will be aluminium too. just to make it durable.

the build started this week and I will post pictures reguraly.

here are some allready

the skills. well. I'm building modeltrucks in all shapes and sizes for some 25 years now. I started when I was 11. with the plastic 1:24 italeri and revell kits. additions on those kits where wood and plastic. after 40 of those I started restoring a car ( daf 33) stripping it to the last nut, and rebuiling it, took 5 years all the welding, putty and sraying the paint I did do myselve. now I'm for some 10 in to the RC-trucking and my ten project aren't kit's the first one is mainly wedico, but modified. having an office job working with autocad all day make it easier to make drawings like this
http://imageshack.us/a/img708/9882/busouwehand2.jpg
to get the build going.
I usually print the part I need. stick it to the plywood. and cut it out.
the hood is the last bit I can make that way. than the main wood construction is ready.

http://imageshack.us/a/img11/3645/beestenbusmetbeginneus.jpg

just needs the details and fenders.

the animals are going to be made out of wire and "puppetclay" the forward looking giraf has started to grow
http://imageshack.us/a/img811/6000/beestenbusbegingiraffen.jpg

I got one question. can any one make a few pictures of the seats in a schoolbus?

the second giraf is looking sideways.
the wet clay needs some support.
and I dont know if the second one looks sideways at the right spot.
and I have been searching the net for pictures of the animalbus. and the girafs seem to be places further back on the roof. in earlier years. it might even be a second bus...

but any way the girafs are on the roof

I don't see it mentioned but when it comes time to do the nose of the bus, it is the front of a late 198-'s Chevrolet C60. Not sure if they are over there where you are but those were the normal school buses I rode to school on as a kid.

This is what they were originally. Cab/Chassis model and they just didnt use the cab lol

Hi.
while I'm drawing the seats. I also did some work on the giraf's and grill.
http://imageshack.us/a/img843/2812/woks.jpg
sanding down the clay, and drawing some spots.
I also added ears and horns to the first one. it still needs some work but it's getting there.
http://imageshack.us/a/img843/6031/yug7.jpg

the front is started . the fenders are naturaly not done yet, but give's an idea about where it's going.
http://imageshack.us/a/img801/1381/ui31.jpg

I also think this "animalbus" is a bit larger than the red one just above.
and I also think I's a Thomas/chevrolet build or imported in 1986.

HI.
just got a little further on this build. and I had to give it a nosejob. the gleu wasn't doing what I wanted, so only half one side is finished.
a before picture
http://imageshack.us/a/img708/4637/3b4a.jpg

and an after picture

http://imageshack.us/a/img560/3954/lob7.jpg.

this should be gooing int the right direction

I also made the base for the crocodile,
I first took the top view from google earth.
ans scaled it to the right dimensions.
than I made a drawing across the photo, removed the photo. and I had this left.
http://imageshack.us/a/img20/2581/p9iz.jpg
that drawing was placed on the roof of the bus.
and I made a wire figure on top of it.
http://imageshack.us/a/img585/272/0n2l.jpg

after putting the puppetclay over and into the wireframe this was the result.
http://imageshack.us/a/img547/9356/p9.jpg

This weekend I received a little box with most parts I ordered
and I started to make it a rolling model.
http://imageshack.us/a/img822/691/pw4z.jpg
http://imageshack.us/a/img692/4854/vz4r.jpg
the rims for the backaxle were on back order. so I used a trailerrim to get the tyre on, so I could get the floor level.

after checking, double checking, and triple checking.

http://imageshack.us/a/img843/3418/ceo4.jpg

the rear axle is 2 or 3mm to far to the back. and the body is 3 of 4 mm to low.
the axles are not going to be adjusted. the wheelwell is going to be ajusted. and there is going to be 3mm plywood added on top of the floor so the body sits a litte higher

hi
to make it easier to paint. and to make it a little more durable. I've added alu sheets to the outside. now it's glued in place. more detail will be added to the side's first I want to cover the cab in 0.5mm alu sheet. the nose will be covered with 0.5mm plastic. the fenders I don't know jet. alu of plastic.

http://imageshack.us/a/img823/3498/exnp.jpg

http://imageshack.us/a/img515/971/r8ua.jpg

and it's not visable in these picture's but the wheelwell is moved 3mm back

it also had a little testrun. is worked fine. a bit noisy. but with some grease it will be taken care of.

Wow! The bus is looking fantastic! I like the idea of using aluminum on the sides and roof. That will surely make the structure that much stronger, and smoother. Less body work prep before paint! I would love to see you add some rivet detail to the body, but that would be a ton of work, and with the aluminum skins, tougher to drill a million holes through!

1985 kenworth
07-03-2013, 10:54 PM

Yes, they do make rivets that small. Scale Hardware, out of Florida does!

PetervR
07-04-2013, 02:12 AM
hi.
thanx for all the kind words about the progress.
the progress will slow down now. I have been working the girafs and croc last evening. and I have a pile of dust to show I was working them, but no visual chainges.

rivets have crossed my mind. actually I have tiny copper nails laying around that might do the trick. and it's not drilling milions of holes only hunderds. but that effort makes the differense.
I have to test it first. I also know about a trick with putty and a suringe. to put rivetheads on a model.
Also I have to keep in mind that the sides are going to be covered with stickers. and al the detailing I put in the sides where the stickers are going to be is a waste of time. or even making the stickers ugly in the end.

a modellin rule. if you make one thing very detailed that sticks out, and draws the attention. you can leave other parts less attended.
so rivets around the window and roof are fine. on the sides. I have to see where it will show.

but first I have to figure out a way to make the bumpy lines on the side. even if it means I have to make some sort of bead roller.

I have to get foto's of the stickers on the side, and have the company that stickered some other trucks in the club. to make me the stickers for a decent price.
They have made this sticker fore a friend of mine http://imageshack.us/a/img843/8536/ogch.jpg.

the light are red and orange. the orange is most likely an indicator light. the red I don't know. is that supposed to be a brake light on the front?.

on most school buses the orange and red lights on the front and rear flash when the bus is stopped ,the orange flash when getting ready to stop and all flash or blink when stopped to remind drivers that our children are getting on or off and to not run them over
and around here in Florida drivers seem to forget that a lot lol, I am sure that you know all of this

Hi.
I don't think I'm going to make the stopsign work. from the start. I have tought about connecting it to the speed but in reverse. it only sticks out halfways on half speed. that's no good.
the way this bus is used. they drive to a school want's to go on schooltrip to that zoo, a week or 2 before the schooltrip. in the back of the bus there is a closeds with stuff from the zoo. and the kids get te hear all about the zoo and how zoo's can help precent animals to go extint.

so this bus is not stopping on the road of roadside like te usual ones. and I'm going to keep the flashing in mind, and put the wire's in, but not build it in completly.
and I'm building it for my wife. so she has something of her own when we have a show. and I have an simple 2 canal remote(radio) so there are not enough chanels to control it all just now. My wife is not trained in driving RC stuff. and I put a gear box in. that I can preset on fast- just right- slow - redicusly slow and just moving. she is starting with the 2nd from te bottom. so she can learn driving is. and I think it can go to just right in a few events. and get a 4 channel radio later

the build didn't stop.
I'll try to find some recent pictures.

PetervR
01-19-2015, 07:06 AM
first of all
The original bus had an update.

http://www.mtc-techteam.nl/BBorgnieuw.jpg

I was lucky the model wasn't painted, so It was easy to change the plan.
matching the color was harder. I thing I'm still off by a bit.

http://www.mtc-techteam.nl/BBnieuwekleur.jpg

having a new desing on the original bus made it just a little bit easyer for me to get the print on the side of the bus.
I asked and received the design for the sides of the bus. it's not the final design. but it's close enough.
putting it on is another thing.
there was always an option of getting the design printed on stickers.
But I wanted to try something else first. and it seems to work. I found stuff called "mod pudge" it's a gleu/paint. with makes is possibe to transfer laserprints to objects.
print te picture as a mirror image put the stuff on the print and slab it on the side of the bus. or thats the idea. problem one, the mod pudge is transparant. adding waterbased white paint solved that problem. and making a new problem. the outlines of the picture must be cut at the outline. the 3th problem was the size of the pictureparts to small. it would be an never ending story. to big, it would be impossible to get it on right.
this first bit is on the large side.

http://www.mtc-techteam.nl/BBeerstesticker.jpg

there are some challenges with the mod pudge.
to get the print visible the paper had to go. that is done with water and thing it easy.

http://www.mtc-techteam.nl/BBeerstewater.jpg

to much water or to much rubbing. you will lost the picture.
like the seals head and 2 butterflies.

http://www.mtc-techteam.nl/bbeersteresultaat.jpg

if you get it right and some clear vernis over it like the last fishes and the pingins. It looks like its done by an pro ;-)
