Thanks guys, the power is good. It seems like the motors don't even have to work hard.

I tried the ripper and the blade at the same time just to see if I could manage the transmitter switchs at the same time..

Joe: Not sure whats up, but it is taking forever just to load a short video right now. The attached vid took 50 minutes to load and it is only a few minutes long..

Thanks Neil I was very happy with the results of the D8R. I use 3/16 or 1/4 on the side frames as that is the main structure to the whole model, also it is nice to be able to counter sink your bolts on the side's of the machine as that is the angle that is in view the most.. ;)

Paul: I do enjoy the speed of my excavator, between the hyd and the swing speed it is alot of fun to operate.
As far as the hyd, I use a liembach 450ml pump as I am almost always moving at least two functions at a time. ( stick/boom or stick/bucket ) Need to move as much oil as possible, also I use the 2.5 size hyd line to also help move the oil.

This is the mill I have, still a learning process though.. http://www.busybeetools.com/products/MILLING-M%7B47%7DC-MINI-DIGITAL-READOUT-MT3.html

I have been looking at the Cat 527 for a few years now, but the size is small and it would be hard to fit the hyd into. May have to go electric and then it would be fine...;) The truck is bottomes out when the Cat is on the trailer as the Cat is in the 25 plus pounds area...

Hey Joe
The trailer pivots in the centre set of wheels which are solid, the front axel and rear axel have springs. So when you start to load a machine the rear axel starts to lower as you walk up on the beaver tail as it is spring loaded. The beaver tail gets lower to the ground, as you walk up onto the back of the trailer the trailer levels...

No it is not a 2.4 just a tracker radio..

No problem Nathan. The Cat never powers out with those motors, it will spin until it is stuck before it would ever powerout...
The Volvo is 6 wheel drive so when a set of tires is in the air they will turn before the machine moves... :D

That is correct Terry, on the D8 those are just made to look like there are rollers, but it has teflon strips so that it keeps the track running smooth no clogging and aligned. The excavator has teflon as well, milled out for the chain width so that the chain runs inside, can't jump out of slot, no binding..;)

Nifty new project Greg! Hard to tell yet what make it will be. But I'm sure it will keep you busy for the winter.

If I may make one suggestion before you get much further? Incorporate as much steel in the construction of the loader model as you can, the heavier - the better, especially in the rear. ;)

Keep the loader arms & bucket in aluminum to conserve your hyd power to where it counts, but steel as much as possible everywhere else.

Yes it is delrin for the rims, quick and easy to spin on the lathe. The tires are similar to these http://www.afv-model.com/4711shop/index.php?cat=c80_Tires-Scale-1-14-5.html

I will get the Cat 980 built ( bucket/log grapple ) and then give your idea some thought.
Those heads are a work of art, lots of moving parts in them... I think there is tallented people on this thread who could build something like that, BUT I am not one of them...

Nice build, is the tires mushy or are they solid and firm. For some reason they look a little bit on the stiff or solid side. I know and understand they are custom from another members project and look quite scale but I don't recall if I seen a pic of them without wheels mounted.

The tires are solid rubber, I think they will dig a big hole in the ground quickly in soft material..

D8R Your right Dan, I am running four motors, not so scale but very good power..

Flyingbeagle That's tracksandtreadslou ( Lou ) 966 in the background, nice to have a model of similuar size to look at from time-to-time to use as a reference when building..

Jammer The bucket is 11 inches when dumping when the boom is all the way up, lots of height..

Looks smooth Greg.

Are you mixing the drive motors (proportionate to the steer input) as you turn or just running them all together? My skidder would "chew" at the ground if the turned tight and had the throttle working. Just curious.

Well done Greg, very well done!
I'd say the characteristics of your lift height & radius of your bucket travel is much greater than that of my Stahl loader.. the quality of your selfmade models is a step above anything I buy from the marketplace. Congratulations on another skillfully built model to your fleet. :)

What radio you using with this loader? Robot Marketplace has some reasonably price forward only esc's that are very small in stature that work great for the Leimbach pump.

Thank you for all your interest in my CAT 980 build. I am very happy with the first test run, as far as operator smooth operation, WELL it was my first time and at times there was confusion on what function I should be doing.. The belly dump trailer is 11 inches tall and that is the same height as when the bucket is fully dumped..

Snowchaser - all the drive motors are hooked to the same speed control, maybe lower torque motors I am using make for less binding..

Joe - Thanks for your kind words, I find building is a joy its fun trying to figure things out.. But with all the great folks and information on this thread it makes things so much easier... I will take your advice and put a speed control on the pump and mix the speed with the radio..
