The pike show is next weekend in Brownsville correct? Who is going!

Anybody know if the fellow with the big RC walking dragline is gona be there?

I am planning to go and that is going to be one of my must see items, gona be a bit of a haul for me from Iowa...

Should I take my little 1:50 conversion?

What is the camping like?

I'll be there as usual. Scott should be up with his machines as well. You won't be disappointed with this show. Yes bring whatever you got. I'll have a big pile of dirt to play on. I'm planning on going down Thursday evening till Sunday. There is room to camp with us in the woods next to the dirt area or camp in the parking lot.
PM me if you need more info.

Steve,

Thanks for the info! Sounds great, camping in the woods near the dirt pile has to be better than the parking area.

We should get there Friday middle of the afternoon and I'll bring my little dragline and maybe even the new wooden unit.

If you want we could build you a small canal to run your barge back and forth. Just line a small ditch with plastic or rubber roofing. I don't have any rubber on hand though.

Steve,

No, don't do that. I was jus planning to bring the little Menck dragline, and maybe the new wood with the clamshell if I get it finished.

I'm sure there will be plenty to see and do.

Cool, I'm going to bring my Menck dragline and I can bring my little conveyor. I was really hoping you would be there also, I want to look at your conversions.

I hope we get there early afternoon Friday.

Hey Scott, I wonder if we could try to sift some of that dirt through some wire mesh like I brought to Cabin Fever a couple years ago. My Sand Master doesn't have enough power in the motor so I won't bring that. I haven't had time to get another motor with more power.

It seemed to chop up easily enough using a shovel.

You know what would be really cool is just a simple large funnel that you would feed with your dragline that has a release lever and we could keep dump trucks running constant all day.

We couldn't have a funnel/loading bin for this weekend obviously but, something that could be made in the future.

When you go to the NP&S spring show little kids could push tonka trucks around filling it from the loading bin too, that would be neat.

Guys,

Don't do anything special on my (1:50 scale) account. If all I do is get a few pictures of my stuff sitting in the foreground with all your experienced equipment that will fun! My little Menck can move dirt if it is dry and chopped up and loose.

And, Scott, if you have an extra truck I would be excited just to drive a dump truck! :D

Jim,

i always have extra equipment to run and enjoy having good people like yourself keep it all running. You'll have to give the cable excavator and dragline a try.

Glad you and your wife enjoyed yourselves.
I see you had a safe flight home. You made it home sooner than I did. After Mike and I loaded up my trailer he left . I cleaned up the dirt pile dropped trailer off at shop and made it home by 11:00.
I got some pictures but no video,I'll post them soon.

i had a great time as well.

Jim, it was nice to meet your wife and yourself. i am glad you had a good time.

Steve, thanks for all of the help setting up the dirt pile and kudos for bringing food for lunch.:D

Doug, i am glad you were able to show up on Saturday. Usually the dirt pile is all setup nice with haul roads on Thursday night but, the heavy rain really made the dirt hard to work with.

The nice thing about that show is there is so much to do and see that the rain didn't ruin the fun... i spent some time on an a full scale old D4 Cat Dozer and had a blast.

i have a bunch of video but, i won't have time until probably this weekend to edit it and post it all up.

The 9W did work flawlessly. In fact it ran Saturday from around 11:00am to about 1:15am Sunday when the battery exhausted in my radio. Jim, Scott , and Sam were working the third shift:D I did notice Scott's dump rolling down the hill a couple times. I think the driver was impaired from something:cop:
Sure would be nice if you could venture this far Lou.

Here are a few pictures from the show. I did a walk around to show the many shovels there. Proof that this is the shovel capital of the world.

SmallHaul-great videos!! It amazes me how they can get that old equipment working just like when it was new. In the R/C video, that was a pretty steep incline for your hoe to crawl up but you made it. The 9W was working great as always. Looked like a lot of fun!!

Modelman, Agreed they really get the old iron running well.

It was funny because on Friday i saw a bunch of guys say "we're all going to pick it up now" and i knew it would be interesting to see what they hauled back and sure enough late afternoon they come rolling in with a large old completely rusted shovel and it is running sitting on the flatbed! They said it was so hard to start they didn't want to shut it off, lol.

Thanks, yes the hoe ran well. Last year the tracks kept getting clogged with dirt and i would have to stop and clean the dirt out very frustrating so, using a dremel cuttoff wheel i actually sharpened the inside of every cup/tooth on the drive sprocket and now you can get dirt in the tracks and you just have to drive back and forth 2 or 3 times and it pushes it all out and keeps going. Knock on wood i haven't touched the tracks since.

Great photos and videos, guys. I'm especially fascinated with the in cab footage of the shovel. As an operator you sit right next to all the clutches, flywheels, and gears. That's awesome. I've never seen the inside of a shovel before. That's good stuff!

The guy operating the shovel (Ricki) was watching me run my cable excavator for many hours earlier that day and i could never get him to try and run it... then later in the day he got my attention and asked if i wanted to ride in the back of the shovel so that i could see how it operates. i always try to get the people that own the full scale equipment to run my models but, most seem to be intimidated by the remote but, every year more and more people give the rc's a try.

Tom,

We got there just as the rain stopped and the weather the rest of the weekend was perfect! That was the most fun I have had in a while! Steve and Scott are great guys to hang out with! I can wait for the next show! I think I'll try to get to the cabin fever show, and then got to the spring and summer shows in Brownsville. I was having so much fun running RC stuff that I didn't get around to the rest of the show as much as I wanted. Next year, I plan on staying an extra day, and getting there earlier on Friday, or maybe Thursday night.
