Just checked with the Komatsu Applications handbook and the Cat 777 or Komatsu HD785-7, 100-ton rated trucks are recommended to be used with the Komatsu PC2000 hydraulic shovel. That makes it a 3 or 4-pass combination, depending on material. If you want a true 3-pass machine, then use the PC3000, though it's considered bit too big (and expensive) by the applications folks. I'm all for either one, 'cause I love those big Komatsu shovels and excavators!

Looking forward to seeing the shovel and I really enjoy the big triple-7!

If you had 2 or 3 of these triple 7's on the move, then it would definitely make sense to have the bigger shovel...

My 850 with these little dump trks I have, 3 scoops & they're full... just like lifesize, I find scale trucking just as boring too & would like to spend more time digging than hauling.

Hmmm. I can't help thinking of a super long Conveyor belt and a big a$$ PC-3000 for you're basement Joe ;0)

Sorry no pics from work, kinda like my job and it is against the rules (in other words, get caught and lose your job).

We don't use anything larger than a PC2000 excavator to load 777's, usually a PC 800 or PC1800.

We also have a couple of Hitachi 3600 excavators, a couple Hitachi 8000 face shovels, a couple O&K RH400 face shovels, four P&H 4100 electric cable shovels and a couple of Bucyrus 495HP electric cable shovels. Trucks are 777D, 777F, 785D, 793D, 797B and 797F.

Or we use a Cat 992G wheel loader, takes 3buckets with our high volume bucket or 5or6 with a rock bucket.

In regards to your first question above about the size of the dozer in comparison to the truck, I found this video of a 777 being pushed up a hill by a D11. Your scale looks to be pretty close to me. What do you think?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMtaJsWRlMc

If it were me I would want to size the shovel where it somewhat evens out the time spent operating the shovel as compared to driving. Like Joe said above, digging is more fun than driving. I have no experience operating the models, but I know in the real world I would much rather operate a hoe, than drive the dump truck. At the same time I wouldn't want it to take 100 scoops to load the truck as that would get old too. Looking at a 777 with a mini ex would be pretty intimidating

Looking realy good! The 777 is a favorite, have had plans to make one, some of your solutions are very good (like the suspension units). As usual, tires decide what can be built, tires used here are available over here to but to small for most scale 5,6 models.
Looking forward to see it finished!

Really enjoyed your videos. I watched some of the others as well. The 110 pound load and incline test was pretty impressive! You did a nice job putting this model together, that's for sure. It doesn't seem to lack any power! Maybe you could even gear it up a little for a touch more speed.

Thanks Lou.....yes it is a small hoist/crane...I originally built it to lift the D11 dozer on/off the work bench, turns out I need it more now:eek: because the dozer is just under 100lbs and the truck is just over with the battery...yup they are "chunky" ( and don't worry about the lift pulling the shelf down it's built chunky too!!! :D ) the lift will really be needed when I build the shovel, the way I build stuff I'm sure it will be "really really chunky"

Thanks!!! The truck is the second build for me and I did try and get a few more details in this build than I have in the dozer, I still have more details to add to the truck...exhaust, air cleaners and maybe some details in the cab, but for now it will just be open space ( great for mounting the GOPRO inside)

The pics I took outside the other day are really more about actually having some nice pics of it with the fresh paint job....I don't see it be that "shiny" ever again. I did put the radio in one of the pics to help get some size reference but that isn't always helpful.....So here are a few more size/reference pics.

Glad you like the vids....I'm also impressed with how much power that little motor/gear box has too!!! (almost scary ) time will tell how long it will stay together, it does like to strech that #25 chain...should have used #35 but for now I will run it with the #25 and see what happens. Your right it could be geared up a bit to get more speed , but first I want to see how it will handle a big load driving in the dirt/grass and not on a concrete floor ( that sounds like a good reason to make another video...LOL )

Great Job! Watching it come together using the painted parts really puts a smile on your face ill bet. The actuator speed and power is perfect. One of the coolest dumps here. Congats.

Thanks!!! Yup....I think every builder has a smile on their face the first time they get to see the model taking shape with all the newly paint parts!!:)

The actuator does work well in this application and was a very simple way to replace using telescopic hydraulic cylinders.... however it does in this case take away from the looks of the truck box , doesn't look great but it does work...LOL

Not sure of it being the coolest dump truck on here, but I'll bet it's one of the heaviest!!!:D:lol: Thanks again !!

Finally had some time to take out the truck and have some fun...and get a little yard work started at the same time....
Used the truck for a good portion of the day and so far so good, everything seems to be working well....it could be a bit faster though, the long runs take a long time....the slow steering response is a challenge at times, but for the most part it does work well for this heavy model.

A few more pics....the lawnmower helps in getting a good size comparison...a PC1800 is really big machine compared to the 777....and to think I thought of building a PC3000.....yikes that would be huge!!!

What will you be using for drive motors on the shovel? I ask this because i once started an excavator abput that size and i still have to wheel chair motors and gear boxes. the type of chair that has two main tires that are controlled much like an excavator. if someone was interested i will trade them for some 1/14 scale trailers yrucks or just boxes of unused extras!!!!

I plan on using the same motors that I used in the 777 , two for the track drives and one for the swing.

I will soon start a build thread on the 1/12 PC1800 front shovel....sorry everyone for being out of touch for a while

Thanks!!!

Thanks.....the truck with the big battery in it is just over 100lbs (battery is about 10lbs)

hello ive just been looking over your build nice job. I'm not trying to tell you what to do but I would like to make a suggestion on your drive train chain. From your vid I could not really see a idler pulley. How ever I did think I seen a bushing. My suggestion is this replace the what appeared to be nylon with bronze this way you can cut a grove for chain to follow in and it will last three times as long almost maintenance free. Bronze is also called oil in pregnanted brass. I hope I have not affended you only making a friendly suggestion that's all
