Heres My New Project...Cat CT660

[Exclusive RC]

It is no secret that I am a Die Hard Pete fan.They are the Holy Grail to the Trucking world (just my opinion :), The Cat Engine was undoubtedly One of the best.... Now Paccar has replaced them, and as a Homage to the Cat Engines and Cat Line I have decided to do one of their trucks with a Little "Exclusive" Flair.... It has been on my mind forever and for those of you who know me on a personal level, know that ive been sketching and planning this for a long time, I am cool with the Guys over at Foley Caterpillar and they are allowing me to go there and spend the day with them going over details and taking pics and Measurements for accuracy... The president also requested a Non RC version to put on his desk :) I will be scratch building this and implementing some 3d Printed Parts as well with the help of a designer friend of mine... who knows maybe I might even make these a complete print and offer it to you guys as a kit..... only time will tell, and trust me the DETAILS will show!...

I see foley running around with a red one, Anselmi has a nice yellow 4 axle the guys doing the 22 project. We have 4 new extended cab t800 coming next week, maybe one day I will attempt that

If I recall correctly, the yellow one is the first cat truck offered in Australia and was way before we saw the trucks that are on northamerican soil.

I believe the yellow one is a Navistar Prostar with a Cat grille and badging.

I remember seeing pictures of that truck back in 2010 on my work email. We all said it looked like a navistar at the time. Then we now have the truck you see today.

If you ask me , all they did is take the navistar sweeping lines and squared them up a bit???:rolleyes: and yet it creates a different look ?

To be honest my latest dump truck build is supposed to be a low budget spare parts build but I have already thought about how cool it would be to have a CT660 in our S&M trucking fleet :D:rolleyes::) ....

I Believe one of every brand truck would be a great addition to my fleet... And one day it will happen but it's hard when I'm one guy working on multiple projects and making sure I take care of my customers. The wheels are always spinning in my mind to make things bigger and better but my hands can only work so fast lol... ALL of my builds are complete (in my mind) now it's time to make them a reality!

It's been a while but I got some new inspiration between talking to Mario and taking a trip down to Foley Caterpillar and getting a bunch of pics and help from the guys out there the build is alive and will be unveiled at the June show in jersey.... At least that's the game plan lol...


So I started with an aeromax because I thought it would be the closest..... Yea right I was in for a rude awakening.... Ordered a ton of body parts and glass and interior to not be able to use any of it as I was only able to use the top part of the hood, and grill (which was later removed anyway..) then I realized it was right under my nose all along with the cab as it was very similar to a king hauler with obvious modifations so i butchered one up and scratch built the rest, this is the Frankenstein I got going on so far....

Thank you, and pay molds I think your referring to the grill area?.... If so it does look a bit narrow in that angle but when it's all finished an painted it will be on the money...

Thank you brother, and your absolutely right, anything well thought out will always help you out in the long run.... And that is the best advice I could give to anyone doing what we do.... If you can take a trip to see these beast in person because pictures don't always catch every detail you need..... As for your KW build Izzy, I know it seems like you may be having little difficulties here and there but your off to a great start..... Don't give up just take some time away and get right back on the saddle because that's one of my favorite builds you go going on and I'd hate to see you stop before it's completion.... Wow, that's pretty cool. I can see you even 3D printed the bellows of the airbags, but what material are the ends printed from? They look like metal. Nice work.

Thanks Nathan, the only thing metal on the whole air ride system is the springs inside the bags and the rod and nuts that run through them, all else is abs solid plastic bud.

Yes sir they are painted, and as for the color she will be cat yellow, white, and black with my fancy line work :)

Then i felt like something was missing so I went back on my reference pics and matched all of the details so, 344 Drilled holes, Rivets,m and blisters on the tips of my thumb and index finger later I had her looking like the real deal....

Wow, I like the paint scheme. The cab turned out great. I like all the little detail touches. Awesome! Good luck drilling those little holes for the visor. Drilling holes that small in aluminum isn't as easy as you'd think. Been there, done that. Take your time!

Let me explain something to you guys..... when you want something done right, not only do you have to find the person capable of doing it but you have light afire up under there *** and give them some motivation lol.....STEVE is the man! (IHBuilder) Def not afraid to take on a task no matter how small or impossible it may seem..... He def proved he could with this job.....I had Steve make me the tank with integrated brackets for steps and the air tanks with brackets as well along with the hydraulic tank. At first i didnt think he would want to tackle the step job but he went and surprised me with it and KNOCKED it out oft he park! GRAND SLAM! This style tank and step will most likely be available for you guys to purchase through Steve at some point in the future.... enough talking...... SHOW TIME!

I've used those before on my HO scale trains but don't like them because you see the decal strip, and it wouldn't be very scale for this particular build since they are spaced apart more and my riveting was done exact count to match the truck.... As pains taking as it is, I don't mind drilling hundreds of holes lol.... It connects me to my builds:)

Wow, this one turned out so nice. It's hard to believe that this isn't a mass produced kit. The cab looks flawless and now that it's on the chassis and everything is finished, I really, really like it. I'm not normally into the new modern trucks all that much, but it looks really nice. I'm thinking it deserves a nomination for build of the month! Will you be putting a fender over the lift axle? In my humble opinion, it looks a little naked without one, but that is just me! If you're happy with it as is, that's all that matters!

thank you for the kind words brother, i really appreciate it coming from a great builder yourself and yes that is exactly why she is 95% complete and not 100%, didnt have time to make fenders for the lift axle before show but am workign on them now along with a few little knick knacks left :)
