Here is another great used find I picked up last week.. Going to take this truck and build it up to match another custom truck we built at the truck shop. But with this build i"m going to show the new guys how you can take a bone stock truck and with very little work with the parts available today in the alum parts and the 3D printed parts how easy it is to build a truck with limited custom building skills...
So I got some parts ordered and have a few more to order and then wheels I'll pick up and the end from IHB due to budget...

Nice find Paul I like that used king, that in my opinion is still the best way to start a project, get a used cheap rig.

Looking forward to it. Do you move your front axle forward on these builds?

How far forward to you move them? Are you just clamping them to the stock springs?
Thanks,
Chris

Well I got the bone stock King Hauler all blown apart..
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/theonlytamiyacowboy038/004.jpg (http://s58.photobucket.com/user/theonlytamiyacowboy/media/theonlytamiyacowboy038/004.jpg.html)
And first I started on adding the True Scale RC Drop Axle to give it a lower stance..
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/theonlytamiyacowboy038/005.jpg (http://s58.photobucket.com/user/theonlytamiyacowboy/media/theonlytamiyacowboy038/005.jpg.html)
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/theonlytamiyacowboy038/006.jpg (http://s58.photobucket.com/user/theonlytamiyacowboy/media/theonlytamiyacowboy038/006.jpg.html)
Then built up a chassis using True Scale RC rails and cross members and hanger bearing cross member with a 20/22 Work drop bumper for the front.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/theonlytamiyacowboy038/007.jpg (http://s58.photobucket.com/user/theonlytamiyacowboy/media/theonlytamiyacowboy038/007.jpg.html)
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/theonlytamiyacowboy038/009.jpg (http://s58.photobucket.com/user/theonlytamiyacowboy/media/theonlytamiyacowboy038/009.jpg.html)

Then it was time for a new body keeping the bone stock one piece I started with a new cab and hacked it up.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/theonlytamiyacowboy038/010.jpg (http://s58.photobucket.com/user/theonlytamiyacowboy/media/theonlytamiyacowboy038/010.jpg.html)
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/theonlytamiyacowboy038/011.jpg (http://s58.photobucket.com/user/theonlytamiyacowboy/media/theonlytamiyacowboy038/011.jpg.html)
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/theonlytamiyacowboy038/012.jpg (http://s58.photobucket.com/user/theonlytamiyacowboy/media/theonlytamiyacowboy038/012.jpg.html)
Then put it back together with a True Scale RC 379 Pete hood and fenders and using a stand up top from PMD I built the sleeper with 2 doors because the truck I am copying has a stand up with 2 sleeper doors and no rivets so them will be removed.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/theonlytamiyacowboy038/013.jpg (http://s58.photobucket.com/user/theonlytamiyacowboy/media/theonlytamiyacowboy038/013.jpg.html)

And adding a grill shell and louvered insert and air cleaners from True Scale RC also..

Looking good Paul! How do those true-scale hoods attach to the truck? Do you glue them to the cab with some backer pieces or are they set up to be hinged?

Quick transformation and great how to for us rookies. Is that sleeper top a custom item or in PMD's store?

A little of both I needed a sleeper with 2 sleeper doors instead of one so I built it using a PMD top.Im not sure if they sell them any more but you can go right over to True Scale Rc body department and get a printed one witch I would of done if I did not have this one laying around..

Sure wish they were around with the hood and fenders when I was doing mine. Although I'm not sure I would have bought it, Mine I can say I BUILT...

Working on planning a truck like this myself and I have a question. How do you plan to do the battery in this truck when the back of the sleeper is non-removable?

All my sleeps have no doors it all. I don't even run full sized battery packs. My sleepers velcro between the sleeper and cab and lift off no screws either.
