Haha I was looking at the weird engine and didn't even notice the pipe underneath! They look very authentic but I guess even fake stuff looked the part back then. Now everything has to be idiot proofed and be shaped like a bar of soap:mad:.

I've had lots of distractions over the last week or so. We have been trying to put up our Christmas lights for about a week now butt he weather has been all over the place with tons of rain and wind. Whenever the sun comes out I try to rush around and get stuff done. Just a few more things to put up now and hopefully we can sit back and enjoy it for the next three weeks. My wife got called into work at 6:30am so I was left on my own to handle things. Good thing I kept this "deluxe" wooden spool holder I made last year!

115 works awesome for this! I'll get some night time video once all of our stuff is setup.

LOL, we have had rain, wind, some more rain and wind, a little bit more rain and wind, half hour of sun and then more rain and wind for the last couple of weeks. Did I mention the rain and wind we've had? It might not be cold but it sucks about the same.:(

I finally had enough waiting so I put down the trailers I was working on and headed out to start breaking my new bike in. 10 days of having it and not riding it was p!ssing me off so now I feel better. Got the nerves out of the way and I am very happy with my purchase. I need to get used to the type of power and the amount of it again as well as get in better shape but that will all come...

Reg, Reg, Reg,
If you prefer to be in the AIR you should have bought something with WINGS ! It has been a few hundred years since I raced those machines, the only thing I could think about watching that video is "make this thing stop" as I was getting tired just watching. That is a good work-out.. Every lap you took I could see that the track was getting GREASY ! You probably lots 10 pounds of sweat..... Fly safe :cop:

p.s. I must have good suspension not to bottom out hahahah

Well I must have stopped at the right time yesterday because I was tired when I quit but not sore this morning! I only rode for about 15 minutes total so that's pretty lame but I'm old and fat.lol It's been a long time so I would rather ride often for a short time than try to over do it end crash because I was tired and made a big mistake. I was pretty nervous for a couple of laps yesterday too which makes a guy hang on too tight. Greg is right about the track as it was getting greasy. I didn't ride long enough to sweat but I'm sure the fat was oozing off of me somewhere.lol It actually was slippery though. Usually this time of year is really good when it isn't frozen but we've had so much rain that the ground is very soft even though there isn't much standing water on the track itself. It doesn't help that the bike comes with intermediate to hard pack tires installed. When the rear is worn it will get tossed in favor of a soft to intermediate tire which will work better here for most of the year. Last night it froze so we'll see if I get to ride later or not. At least the sun is out today so frozen or not, things will start to dry out a little. Too bad there is another storm in the forecast...

Thanks Andy. I think our wives are just trying to protect us even though it seems like they are sucking all the fun out of life.lol Actually mine is very supportive as I'm sure yours is as well. She takes xrays for a living and I don't think she wants to see me at work.lol

We started building the track around 1989. It only had a couple of jumps pushed up by the farm tractor and an oval track for the Honda Odyssey we had back then. I started to hang out with a kid my age that lived just down the road around that time. He raced MX, was/is very good on a motorcycle(me not so much) and was riding all the time. We became besties in a very short time and he got me more interested in MX. It wasn't long before the track started to grow and my parents were helping to support his race efforts. In the spring of 1991 my parents bought a 955K and we got the old Euc going so that we could haul in more material for the track. The unfortunate part of having flat property is that everything has to be made and you can't take advantage of any natural terrain. Anyway, the track wasn't the best practice for high speed but it was always filled with jumps so it taught us a lot about technique and timing. I never really got into racing but I have done hundreds if not thousands of laps around this track.lol My friend retired from pro racing in 1995 when he landed a full time apprenticeship as a heavy duty mechanic. He was #3 in Canada that year in both 125cc and 250cc classes. Unfortunately even with his talent, at that time there wasn't any money in racing here and it cost a lot to travel across Canada for several months on top of maintaining the bikes. A few years later things were a little different and with his skills he could have made some good money racing. Timing is everything I guess:(. Since then over the years the track has sat dormant most of the time but I try to keep it maintained. I got back into riding around 2001 when I started to hang with some younger guys. We rode a lot on mini bikes as well as the full size stuff until around 2008. The Fiddy fad passed and my riding buddies moved away for work leaving me with no one to ride with on a regular basis. In November of 2010 I almost bought a new bike to replace my 07 but my wife and I decided that to build our shop instead. We all know where that has lead me... Now I'm at home all the time in the shop so I need some fresh air now and then. My ex pro friend bought a new bike in the spring and another one of my old riding buddies has just got back into riding in the last month or two(has been racing carts for a couple years). He has it bad and even though he bought a new enduro bike in October, he just ordered new MX bike last week after hearing I got mine.lol Hopefully we get some good rides in together over the next few months and it will all be worth while!

Nice box of goodies RW. I have a few of those somewhere but not that many. My bikes usually ended up with 2 stroke drool coming out of the silencer because I never revved them enough. The new bike won't be any different probably.lol You can use me as an excuse to get back in it if you like. It wouldn't be the first time I've been threatened by a friends wife when they bought a new bike because I did. I have always just enjoyed riding and pushing myself within my comfort zone. I've broken and dislocated some body parts over the years and I didn't like it back then so I really wouldn't like it now. I know it's a risk involved with the sport but I do my best to stay safe. I'd like to think I ride about the same speed as before(never was fast) but if I don't feel comfortable now I just back off because I'm not trying to get faster. The major difference for me is that I used to be able to ride for hours and now I can only ride for a few minutes.lol In my mind I'm still 15(ask my wife. she calls me Peter Pan) but my body is 40:eek::rolleyes:. I played hooky from work this afternoon and groomed the track for a couple of hours instead of riding. I figure if the track is well groomed it is more fun and also safer. It also has the added bonus of making you feel like a superstar because the setup looks professional. It's starting to look more like how it should now but it will take a while. The last major grooming it had was in 2010 and then it didn't see a bike from Nov 2011 until early last year. It was starting to disappear under 4' tall alder trees so I had to clear it off before I could even ride on it in 2014.

Enjoyed watching the ride....wish I was there doing the same thing...once you have a dirt bike you can't get it out of your system...even after crashing...riding a street bike it ok but just doesn't compare to a dirt bike....took my sons dirt bike for a ride this summer...one ride and you get hooked again, didn't want to give it back to him that day...heehee. I did notice that I rode a little bit more on the tame side, crashing always did suck but now that a fella is slightly older the time to heal up would be years not weeks...

Over the last few years I have made excuse after excuse not to go riding but on the occasions where I did go I loved it! Every time it would leave me with a big smile and looking forward to the next time. When the next opportunity would come however, I would make excuses again because I was building a model and couldn't stop.lol I got my street license a few years ago and like you said it is OK but if I never rode on the pavement again I wouldn't really miss it. I find it very boring but it could be because I'm riding a dualsport and it's not very comfortable. It's a fun bike to ride 5 min up the road and into a trail though so I keep it. I am definitely more afraid of getting hurt now than 20 years ago. Gotta stay on the bike now and not under it! I think you should get yourself a bike KP. Then we can complain about being old and out of shape together!lol

Yes, I am shedding some of the rust. I think I'm down to a heavy tarnish now after putting 0.4 of an hour on the clock.lol I'm not riding at my best that's for sure but most of the basics came back right away. Yes it's music to my ears! I am a very lucky guy to have a track right here that I can ride on. It was a lot of work to build it and a bit of work to keep it up but much nicer to do that than drive to the closest track and then pay to ride. I've always enjoyed building the jumps and grooming the track anyway.:) It's even sweeter now that I am working at home most of the time. That guy is a million times faster than me! Some great elevation changes on that track and huge jumps that's for sure. I would say the worst part about having your own track is worrying about people getting hurt on it. First and foremost I don't want to see anyone get hurt including myself but also it could be a big problem. I can probably count the number of people I've let ride here over the years on my fingers and toes. They were/are all good friends and everyone signs a waiver but... In a perfect world where no one ever gets hurt and everyone is having fun it's great! As you said, you can make changes whenever you feel like and you only ride with guys you enjoy spending time with. It seems like for the most part though, guys show up, ride/BS until they're tired and then go home. I'm left with a rutted, beat up track that needs to be groomed... Maybe this isn't so great after all?lol

Yeah I've spent some hours over the holidays working on the track clearing blackberries and such. I fought with a fire for most of the day yesterday. It's tough to burn Salmon and Blackberry vines when there isn't any substance in the fire to create heat. I had it going good the day before but it went out overnight and it wouldn't stay burning after that. We have some cold dry weather here now so I will separate the pile and try again in a day or two. Some of the corners are flat on purpose. It increases the challenge and berms form more naturally. They are good for a few laps, then blow out forcing you to do something different. I'm definitely not better than my buddy but thanks for thinking that I am.lol He is just riding slow so I could keep up.lol He's the ex pro I grew up with so he has a lot more in the tank even though he's 41. It was great to ride with him though. We were talking and the last time we both had 250 2 strokes and rode together here was 1995. We've ridden together since then obviously, but we've both been riding 4 strokes for quite some time. I really like the new bike!:D

Here's one I filmed a few weeks ago but didn't post. All of these trucks are going to auction. The contractor that owned them is being forced by the timber lease owner to switch over to highway trucks. Everyone in the industry knows it's a bad idea but the "bean counters" think it's best. The off highway trucks are a dying species here now. This was the last major operation on the southern island running them. They need 20+ highway trucks to replace the 9 off highways they had operating up until December. They are still cutting old growth forest too and big logs don't like little trucks.lol

Here is a list. Arboviral Encephalitides, Dengue Fever, Malaria, West Nile virus, Yellow Fever, Heartworm, Chikugunya, and Zika Virus. And that's just to name a few.

Haha, I will take my chances with the bears any day! At least most of the time they run away when they see you! You can't get away from the mosquitoes! In all reality I think we live in one of the best places in the world. No poisonous snakes, frogs or bugs. Even the number of mosquitoes aren't bad compared to other places. I said to my wife that I should have looked at the rain gauge! It wasn't supposed to rain for 24hrs straight but it did. It rained a little harder around 8pm but quit long before daylight the next morning thankfully. We must of had a couple of inches over the whole day I would think. It never rained super hard but it never let up either! It was back to pissing today but there were some breaks between. Unfortunately I spent all day in the shop making wheels so I missed those breaks.lol

The weather was nice here yesterday so I spent a few hours outside in the afternoon before returning to the shop. My wife wants to plant a small veggie garden in the yard this year and we would like to make some raised beds for it. I have a couple of small cedar logs sitting in the play area that I would like to have go away so this is the perfect use of them! I clamped my Dad's "mini mill" attachment to my saw and got to work cutting planks out of one log. This setup doesn't work as well as the larger "Alaska mill" he has but for a small log like this it worked OK. I may need to cut a couple more but this will give us a start and it gives me some sawdust to push up with the RC's!:D

The koi pond, mine was too big to cover. That's the reason I ended up turning it into the backyard dig site. The hereins kept eating all my fish!! Shop on one side of the house, yard on the other Joe. I wanted to have both on the one side but it just wasn't meant to be thanks to some stupid zoning rules and loop holes I had to jump through. Yes the fish prison. I'm not sure if the fish are locked in or the mink, coons, birds and feral cats are locked out? It's ugly having the wire on there but a necessity for the fish's survival. The "extra" piece isn't usually thrown on there but I saw a mink hovering around a few months back and let it live. I wanted to double up the protection so some chunks of wire have been on it all winter.

I had some real fun with my Bruder loader and conveyor today. This is probably the most purposeful and enjoyable thing I have ever done with RC's. The conveyor worked awesome despite spending the winter on a bench uder the eve of the shop. It's the first time I've used it since I built it.

You know it's kinda funny but the little Bruder wheel loader is one of my favorites. I think the reason I like it is because it's fast and it actually has nothing to do with what type of model it is. I agree though that nothing replaces the larger scale, all metal, scratch built stuff. They all have their quirks and never work perfectly but it's cool to know that no one else in the world has exactly the same thing. Since I like the wheel loader so much I guess I should be building a 1/10 980 or 988. It could pull double duty loading dirt or loading my logging truck if I built a grapple for it. I just need RW to widen out his tire mold a bit and to pour me a set of four and it's on.:D

That loader and squirrel are awesome!

Keeping myself in check, I took a break from building and played with this thing for a bit while I fed some mosquitoes. It's actually a lot of fun for a light weight toy. I can see why people convert these things.

A little but not a whole bunch. I guess I've put over 1000hrs on my Kubota since I bought it but I don't know much. I just pull levers and hope for the best.lol

I filmed a short in cab video tonight. The camera really picked up the noise so turn the volume down if you don't enjoy horrible noise.

With the nice weather I have been trying to spend more time outside of the shop. This thing hadn't been run in two years so I had to clean the carb(more than once), drain the fuel and so on just to get it running. I haven't messed with these things much in years but it had a pretty serious bog off idle before so while I was playing mechanic I started trying some different jetting. It's a bit fat at full throttle(me too) but I have it running pretty good now.:D

Not really anything to do with "the compound" but I insured this yesterday for the first time in a couple of years. I went for a 50K logging road/trail ride today and did one yesterday too. Both rides were only about two hours a piece but it was great to be back on this thing! Good times...

We had some snow over the last week but normal weather has come back and now the snow is gone:bounce::bounce:. This was the first time since 2010 that we've had enough to actually play in here at our place so I was in a mad dash to run as much stuff as I could in the snow as it built up. THe snow eventually got too deep for anything other than the Tigercat. I was amazed at how well it plowed snow!

It was a nice day here yesterday with no rain(finally) so I had the urge to play outside. I got a text from Cooper suggesting I get my a$$ out of the shop and do something fun so I did. First up I threw a load on the big KW and took a cruise around the compound. I hired this worker for the week but he isn't very productive. He steals things off of the shop floor, drags in pieces of wood from outside and digs holes in the roadway all while constantly untying my shoe laces. He also wants to make sure he is involved in every project but doesn't have thumbs so he isn't much help.lol Oh well, his people are coming home today so I guess his tryout is over. He lives just up the driveway so I'm guessing we will see more of him in the shop at some point.:cool:

Thanks. Yes the little guy was having fun running around checking stuff out. By the end he was getting a little too curious and was gonna wreck some stuff while "learning".lol

I sure hope so Greg. I know we live in a wet climate but this winter has been a bit much! Time to get some vitamin D and do some fun stuff outside on projects both big and small.

Rub a Dub was sending me pictures and since I ran out of Argon and couldn't finish the welding I was doing I thought I'd join in the fun. I didn't have a black lab to bark at anything this time so it was pretty tame.lol I have ran the excavator for almost a year. In fact, it was still setup with John Deere controls from when Joe was running it last July!

Smaller truck than Coop but the loading idea is the same...

Well done operating the excavator Reg, it doesn't look like you have not ran it in eight months. You had some serious loads happening.

Thanks Greg. It was nice to get a little play time in moving some dirt. I'm not sure if I even ran the Volvo last summer? I think Joe killed all of my batteries for it and I just ended up running the Bruder 320.:cool: Anyway, I've been running my mini excavator a fair amount lately around the farm so it keeps me somewhat freshened up.lol It looks like our weather has gone to $h!t again today though so it will be a while before playtime resumes...:(

LAST JULY!!! For shame Reggie for shame  :p :D

I've probably moved more dirt with my 850 than you with your mini green machine in the last 9 months. :p :D

If you had my play enthusiam & I had your build ambition, the rc world would be a better place. ;) :)

I know. My play ambition is not very high but the weather is finally getting nicer here so that definitely helps.

I got a call from a friend yesterday that required some prep work leading up to an early morning visit today....

This big old beauty arrived in the driveway before 7:30am. the duo was on the road at 2am this morning to get here! A quick look in the dump box will show the canopy of something small but not our "regular" small.

We thought it was a '52 but the numbers, it appears to be a 1950 Cat D2-4U. Gas motor to start the diesel. It's been sitting a fairly long time but she runs and drives like a 67 year old champ! She has just over 3500hrs on her. Cool yard art or a useful piece of equipment I'm not sure but we are happy to have her!

It'd look pretty cool to have a model dozer of that coming out of the model of the dumptruck...

Keep the old girl running!! She's not yard art, she's something built to last and to run, something that has disappeared in the evolution of technology. Nice find, and nice addition to the rcp compound. It reminds me of a conversation I had while out at one of the shows at pike steam show. I was talking to a fairly old woman that had inquired about the 1:14 d11 I was playing with. She started talking about different model dozers and how she had some of them. People had given her over the years because they knew she collected cat memorabilia . She was rattling off like 10 different older models that she had acquired or been given over the years. I thought by the way she was talking they were models that she restored but she corrected me and said no models but the real ones!! She collected real full size dozers as a hobby!!!! Pretty cool!!!

Yeah guys, my wife and I are excited to have this old thing for sure. You're right RW, she comes from an era where stuff was built simple and built to last! Hard to believe that it is nearly 70 years old, has sat outside it's entire life, and the most immediate repair it needs is a new seat cushion! That's not to say that she doesn't need a little love here and there. Our friend that gave it to us took it to a mechanic friend first and he checked over some simple stuff and made sure it would start. It runs and drives really well but the Hyster D2N winch controls are frozen so we need to free them up. The winch cable itself needs to be replaced as well as the hydraulic hoses on the right hand side. There is no pitting on the rams and no major oil leaks. The undercarriage is in pretty good shape too! The story goes that she was purchased new for a farm along the Fraser River. It turned out to be too heavy for the soft ground so it didn't see much use. The next guys to have her used it to clear the fathers land and then the sons. They claimed that most of the hours racked up with the machine left idling all day because the hated the starting procedure.lol Our friend bought it years ago because he thought it was a neat piece of history. He has a lot of other projects and needed to free up some space so now it lives here! It will be a good match with the Euclid truck and 955K. All old simple iron that can sit there for years and flash right up and go to work on the farm!

Any luck scoring the needed parts for the mill ?

No, not yet Brandon. The dealer promised they would let me know yesterday one way or the other but they never called or emailed. I phoned them an hour before closing to check for an update and they didn't answer the phone. Hmmmm..lol I understand that I am very "insignificant" in their grand scheme of things but this is how I make a living and without the mill I am out of business until further notice. The machine is well out of warranty now so I'm not looking for a freebee either. I even offered to buy two boards if they had them so that I had a spare! I'm feeling the love right now for sure....
