Another truck I've wanted to do for some time now is a Mack DM800 Dump truck. So here goes, I've been talking with Reg for a while and he's started building me an absolutely sick dump bed to fit my truck, I hope I can build the truck as nice as the bed is coming out!

Here's my target, in orange obviously, lol.

And here's were I'm at, early in the game.

I'll wait for Reg to post some pics of the dump body, it's amaising.

This has been ongoing for quite a while as Keith said. We have changed directions a time or two with the box type/style and then my milling machine decided it needed more time off just as I got started building this design. 3 weeks later I have managed to assemble the half finished parts that were on my bench and make a few new ones. There is still a fair bit of work to do but I am liking how it's turning out. Here it is sitting on my KH for mock up...

Hope everyone likes it!

Thanks for the compliments on the dump bed. I know Keith will take my work to the next level by the time he is done with it!

Here's a little update from my side of the project. After messing around for hours with a couple of different styles, this is what i proposed to Keith. I hope he doesn't hate the chains because I added them after it got his nod of approval:cop:.... I ran out of argon before I could finish welding it together so that's why there are some gaps between pieces.:(

Great job Reg that box looks like it belongs on an old hard nose DM . I've seen a few with very similar around here . Looks close to a Summit Trailer body . Me likey the spreader chains , now don't forget to undoo them when dumpin wet clay

http://www.summittrailer.com right down the road from me . I don't care for the Co much anymore since seeing a JMH monster 2 scrap trailer being measured and documented in their lot . 2months later they have practically same design with their name on it .

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Reg is the master at aluminum work. This box is coming out absolutely amaizing. I can't wait to get it and move forward on the build. And Reg, I don't hate the addition of the chains, I love em. Great job!

Hey I can't share all of my secrets or no one will hire me to build stuff!

Just kidding... The uprights are just held in place by their machined fit(see pic). Depending on what Keith decides on for a finish, they will either be glued or JB welded just to make sure they can't come out. I welded the tailgate together but I thought there would be more chance of things moving around there. I use TIG for all of this stuff. My MIG welder is too big for thin material.

Today's update...

It's pretty much all over but the crying now! I will be the one crying as I am really wishing I had built two of these and kept one. Everything is wired up and has been put through it's paces. I just need to follows Keith's next instructions for the type of finish and go from there.

Well I got my dump bed a while back from Reg, what an amassing job he did. Absolutely perfect. After a fe weeks of dealing with back issues I finally started on the cab this weekend. Pretty much done with it with exception of the pass fender extension and a little more work on the grille. I'm happy with the progress.

I installed lights on the bed, with exception of the tail post as it is solid aluminum. I'll wait to my mill is set up and try drill it out to pass the wires through.

A plow would be quite fitting for this truck. Seams every big township on the east coast had a large mack plow truck. I had a job about 15 years ago driving a RD mack with a plow. Never did find a drift that stopped it. Load up that box full with sand and keep your foot in it. That maxidyne pushed harder the more she lugged down on the RPMs. Ahhh...Good times back then!

I want to construct a removable highway plow for my green Mack 6 wheeler. With a full box of sand it can drive thru some snow. It would have to be made with a heavy blade so it can maintain contact with the road.

OK, after looking at a few pics on the web, I've decided that I'll do a plow for her. Nothing fancy but functional. I'll go for something like this that can clip or easily be mounted to my existing bumper and frame.

This style frame

I don't recall seeing any plows on your other vehicles. Besides buckets on machines, blades on dozers, and your Blizzard SR, do you have any snow plows that we have not seen? Well if this is the first I am sure it will be nice. I am interested to see how you will raise/lower the plow and angle left to right. I know some of those older truck/plow setups did not even angle, they just lifted up and down.

Thanks Eddie, I have a SCX10 with a plow on it. This will be my first semi with a plow. Definitely going to do the up and down with a small linear actuator. Hope you don't mind me posting these here Keith. Does this look like it will work? I know it's the wrong Mack, but at least it's a Mack...:D

Once again Reg, you nailed it. I've already started on the frame and lift mech so once I get the plow blade I'll be in business. Nice job! Can't wait.

Awesome Keith. Are you thinking of putting a softer cutting edge on it? I was looking around at stuff I had but wasn't sure if I should stick anything on there for you?

Thanks Reg, I may put a brass strip on the bottom of it. I'll wait till it shows up and I get the frame fit to it. Definitely going to add two feet / shoes to it.

Thanks, the rears are locked on the DM so hopefully it will push OK.

Hi Keith,

Congratulations on one of the most awesome trucks that I've seen on this forum.

I've been a fan of the DM800 since 1970 when I was 10 years old. I built 2 1/25th scale MPC DM800/Rexnord cement mixers. The ones that came in the box with the stars and stripes paint job on the cover.

I'm curious about the cab that you used for this build. Is it a Truescale Mack Superliner with the center windshield post cut out? BTW, that dump box from Reg is freakin' amazing, and your tarp is the icing on the cake. And the passenger side mirror is also a work of art!

Thanks so much for the compliment, I bought one of the cement mixers to use as a guide for measurements on the hood. There a pretty cool kit, I'm just not into building the 1/24th scale stuff. The cab was from shapeways, it's one of Gooses cabs, thanks again.

Thank you sir, appriciate it.

Beautiful build and custom in every way. Not only one of the best Mack builds I have seen but also one of the top dump truck builds. Love the heavy look and it don't get much heavier than that.

Keith I noticed you started off with one of those printed, frosted windshields and ended up with a beautiful clear one. Did you make the clear one yourself? With the curves of the cab that must have been difficult? Or did you do something to the frosted on to get it to a clear state? Having this dilemma with my printed Peterbilt cab. Thank you.
