Why not just change the gear motors? Looks pretty good by the way!
Stuart
02-12-2015, 02:28 PM
Looking real good, as Reg says, why not just swop the motors, I'm using 80rpm ones in my JD9530 with 120mm dia tyres, you might want to try 100rpm
cosworth34677
02-12-2015, 08:12 PM
i't ok i had some axles and a gear box just sitting around, money is really really stupid tight, right now and getting though wheels where kind of hard so buying new gear motors is not really able. so that why i was really bummed when the little gear motors didn't work. but i think i can get it working wit parts around the house.

you know i thought of doing that to.... might of been alot easyer! and nicer looking. but wanted a 1/14 scale truck to go with my other rigs. i'm kind of weird about the scaling of my trucks :D i took it apart this evening and going to at lease prime the parts tomorrow at work. i want to use Mathews paint.
its really strong and takes a beating.

did some more work on the loader, made some railings and new rear fenders, replaced the little cables on the steps with chains and a seat and control sticks. ya i know there are two control sticks but, i've seen some loader with steering wheels and others with control sticks for steering. i've also seen them with both at the same time? i don't know it may not be scale but looks neat and fills up the cab.
next step better steering servo and two new valve servos, i may get two new cylinders for lifting the arm. but we'll see what extra cash i have this weekend

The loader looks really good. I would of thought you would need a stonger servo for steering. I'm glad you shared that as I'm building a john deere articulating tractor and was going to go with a servo that puts out around 500oz. Keep the updates comeing and let's see some video of it in the dirt.

Nice job on the loader. In the video you mentioned the hydraulic pump was for a plane fuel system. Who makes the pump and are there different sizes? What about the valves?
thanks.
Ken
cosworth34677
03-12-2015, 12:00 PM
ya it was for a old turbine, a friend of mine had. that engine long since die but the pump he gave to me. i changed the fittings to 1/16 fittings so it would work with my magom hrc valves. the pump was tiny so it works well with the magom stuff in fact looks and bulit just like there pump, almost like they took one of the airplane pumps apart to see how it was made, and copied it(not saying they did,) the only differents is the magom pump is a lot stronger, and the airplane pump has steal gears inside instead or brass, i don't know the brand, it came to me in a box of bits he was throwing out

Great job! I like your keep it simple/available, frugal approach. Still looks and works great. Do you have any pictures of the steering arrangement? Also, how thick are the lift arms? Apart from the plastic bits you are using Aluminum, correct?
cosworth34677
04-04-2015, 04:12 PM
yep its all aluminum, and the sub frame arm and supports are .125 -1/8" thick.
little harder to work with but worth it in the end, really built and beefy .
sorry no pic's of the steering but really simple two arms on either side of the front
part of the frame to a servo in the center of the rear part of the frame and they are
on a double ended servo arm, and when one side pushes the other side pulls.

Love this loader! Such a good, unique model! I have your video on my watch list, and I watch it nearly every day because it is what I want to happen with my loader in that I want it to be that satisfying and solid. Great job!

well i learned something today! hydraulic fluid rocks! i got up early drove to Tampa(30min away) and me and the guy at the hydraulic supply store tried a few different fluids. dude was a lot of help and took the time to help me bleed the old antifreeze out of the loader.
well we came to iso32 as the the best fluid to use in my loader. i can run the pump at a low speed and it will have full power. and also i guess it doesn't compress and anti freeze dose a little? but it seems to have more power and the movement are right on no lag or build up.
the only thing he said is that i may want to watch the seals after a week or so to see if they a being hurt. and also he would try iso 15-20 next time i change the oil.
so i'm running magom hrc valves, and took the airplane pump out and am running a hrc pump now so we'll see what happens.

so i am done! everything is working, all worked out. and running good
last things to do but they can wait
1.make cab out of metal just waitting for time at work.
2.3way valve set,but waiting on money lol
3. new more scale tires. but that can wait

well i killed the steering servo! but i don't think it was the servos falt more mine, two things i think killed the little guy. i didn't have the end points set right and i thing that was the gear killer for it. also how heavy this guys getting i need to learn to turn when i move.
not before, shoot i may save up for 4way valves and make it hydraulic steering.
the funny part is im already thing of making a new loader, little smaller, and maybe a tactor with a loader arm and rear blade? my play area is more like a materials yard with rock, sand, grave and wood pile so i want something for that yard work and tending the old herb garden, and this guy is little to big for the herb garden
