A brushed ESC has two wires connecting it to a brushed motor. A brushless ESC has three wires connecting it to a brushless motor. Generally brushed systems are cheaper; but brushless systems are more efficient.

Did a search for "difference between radio control brushed and brushless motors" and got lots of info. Here's one of the better explanations I found.
