That looks like cold rolled steel you're using
 , if so, you'll probably loose your point pretty quick & the tooth will not be effective. This tooth I made, not very prototypical of anything, but it works very well. Those are 3" ardox nails that I weld on... they wear out eventually, cut 'em out, weld on new ones. The width of the shank is 3mm.  The pic above with your wife & new dogs, judging the weather in the background it looks absolutely fabulous... and it's like that most of the year for you too right? ya lucky bugger.  It was -18 here today with the wind chill @-28 & I didn't find it too bad with a couple of layers of clothes... getting acclimatize I guess. :/
