One option worth considering?; Vario excavator kit + a Chinese 8x8 + trailer behind it or a Fumotec Bell dumper, get that basement dug out and make a nice warm toolshop in there - sell the RC Vario + 8x8/dumper and THEN start scratch building and take all the time you wish
