For the amount of machining that was necessary, you are about right on the time. If you were power tapping, you might be a little slow. Machining looks great. And you even deburred the parts!! If you want to really slow down, make all of those holes 00-90 thread size without breaking any taps
![]() I had better find some real wood to knock on after that comment I have yet to break a 00-90 tap Must be really living right. Wont talk about M3X .5 though![]()

Thanks guys. I think the amount of time it took was fine, it just seems like forever. All the holes were started with a center drill, then drilled to size, then tapped. I don't tap them in my mill because I don't have a tapping head yet. The mill has a 'tapping feature' but I have used it with mixed success. I use a cordless drill and a lot of patients. I always take the time to de-bur my parts... I don't want myself or anyone else cutting themselves on a sharp edge.
![]() I don't have any 00-90 taps and I can't imagine how careful you would have to be with them. My smallest is 0-80 and I have broken a couple...

Great job Reg! I've been watching quietly, no comments til now....!...that 1/32" between the bumper and hoist base is just unacceptable, such a hack! Baahahaha. Just kidding, many people will love to have a bed and fine working mechanism. The magnets are a great idea, the one I did works great, attracts all the metal too
, I wish I had a gold magnet though. Ben

Those boxes look great. Where did you get the material for the sides?

Hi Reg I don't plan on using it but what about the people that use the rubber for dirt will the gate release then? I don't imagine there is much weight with that stuff and the gate won't release. Ed

Hi Reg , let me know if you find a way to slow your truck to a realistic speed. After i put the new motor in mine it still accelerates like a ferrari. Id like to get rid of 2nd and 3rd gear altogether. I cant wait to see your choice of colour. Mike

![]() Bright colors always look best with aluminum, a great lil worker you have there Reg. ![]() Just one thing left to do is shorten your stacks to just above the box.

Probably could do that. Quote:
Yes still have to shorten the stacks or make new ones. I took a box into the powder coater yesterday and should get it back tomorrow so I'm excited to see how it looks!Thank you sir! Hopefully I can spruce it up with some aftermarket parts one day! |

Awesome colour choice Reg. Back in high school a friend had a brutal 64 chev p/u in that same colour. Once you add the roof guard to the box i think you'll find those stacks to be the right height. Will you be adding a peice of black paper behind the grill so you dont see inside the hood ?

Nice work Reg. Girls never like the smell of paint for some reason. I don't know why, but that's a good looking truck. Magnets seems like a great way to go for the tailgate latch. These boxes look really nice. Do you use a box and pan brake to form the outside walls?

The box on the truck in the pictures is "borrowed" so there won't be a cab guard on it but the box that I have at the powder coaters does and you are right, the pipes do look less out of place.
I think maybe my wife was upset with the smell because the truck isn't painted her favourite color...come to think of it the truck was her favourite color before I painted it...hmmm ![]() I use self made dies(spelling ) to press out the side panels. One shot, all done! I don't have the skills required to make two of the same if I had to make all those bends with a box/pan brake. I do however make the rest of it this way.More pics later! |
