Default IS ANYBODY OUT THERE?

I know this place hasn't been exactly reliable for quite a while, but did EVERYBODY give up on it? I've got other projects going on, my new P1S and a new to me small CNC rebuild are just 2 of them. If you want to hear about them I'm game, isn't anybody doing anything?

Santa was good to me this year, the week before Christmas the overhead door for my garage was FINALLY installed, been waiting on that since before Thanksgiving. I also got myself a couple of presents, a P1S/AMS combo from BambuLabs, and a new to me small CNC.

I got my P1S about a week ago, and it came with a pre=smashed enclosure door - I guess that's a fairly common occurrence. They don't have a customer service number, but when you open up a complaint they at least respond within 24 hours. They're sending me a new door and a couple of rolls of filament. The one thing about this printer that really chaps my *** it that EVERYTHING on this machine is designed to be set-up using a Smartphone - which I ain't got. Even the location of their Wiki page is in a damned QR code. I did get it calibrated and got it to spit out a print 2 days ago though - HOLY **** this thing is fast. It laid down the first layer faster than my D6 printed at its' best speed, after that it was Katy bar the door. And the finish is just MAAVELOUS! I don't know what the layer thickness was on that pre-sliced model I printed, but I'm guessing below 0.1mm you can barely see or feel the layer lines. Because of the speed and finish I'm SERIOUSLY considering reprinting the parts for my RT7R build. If I do I'll post that progress here.

My new to me CNC started its' life as a Vevor 3018, the previous owner upsized it to a 4030 and upgraded the spindle motor. I'll post its' rebuild in the RC Tech section.

I still browse the forum. I did not have a lot of time last year to work on projects. Nothing to post about.

However, here is a few bits and pieces.

Some work on a Caterpillar 769C.

Counterweight for a lnsley H1000c I'm designing.

Undercarriage for a Northwest Engineering 25-D cable hoe

Anyone going to cabin fever? I will be there all weekend. I will get some photos and post them.

The Insley will be an interesting machine to watch. Looked it up as I didn't know anything about them. Look a little weird with the operator's cabin on the right hand side instead of the left like almost all other excavators. I also hope you will post more on the Northwest Engineering machine. I love cable operated equipment. I designed and made a model of a cable operated dump trailer a couple of years ago.

I last went to Cabin Fever several years ago. Was nowhere near the size it is today but still just basically a big pile of dirt for the construction equipment to play on and the truckers just get to drive in a big circle around it. After it got the heck hyped out of it a few years ago the attendance has just skyrocketed. I watch the videos on youtube that get posted and it looks so crowded you can't move with all the trucks parked anywhere they can. Seen a few posts elsewhere where they are asking people not to bring so much equipment this year. Have fun.

AMEN, I hate that also. I carry a "smart" phone but have almost no apps on it. Was so cheap that it didn't even come with a QR code reader on it. Looked at downloading an app but they all want to feed you advertising and want access to your location. Walked into a Best Buy store near me about a year ago and was shocked to find that it had been completely remodeled since my last visit. They had gotten rid of a lot of things they carried like large appliances. And everything was tagged with a QR code that you had to use to find out anything about the object including it's price. And they wanted you to checkout and pay for everything with your phone also. Had one 'open' cash register but there was no one manning it. Left and never been back.

Life has been happening, which has put a hurt on Time and Money for toy trucks.
It also helps that there aren't many events / meets i can find before they're over.

It's much harder to motivate that i should totally build a thing to not have anywhere cool to operate that. Forklifts have gained some random pallets, but that's not newsworthy. My bus stalled about a year ago for a steering wire, and some hardware. Several things needing brass stock. My uhaul was waiting months on batteries, so it's gathered some heavily used rolling stock.

I keep thinking i should build some scenery, to not take anywhere? Still need a foundation for stick framed house, then a Gas station and stetchy Motel would be fun. Some bus stops would be fun to build once there's a bus to visit route, (bunch of graphiti, guy peeing on it...)

I haven't been to Best Buy in about the same length of time, probably won't bother now - I'll just go to Office Max. I fought with the printer all weekend, trying to get it to read a normal sized SD card instead of that micro SD it came with. My one and ONLY spare SD card decided to roll over and die, so it was off to Walmart on a Sunday afternoon to get a replacement. The SD card that died was 16GB, and there were 12GB of files on the micro that I was copying so I knew it would have been big enough. Walmart's SD's started at 64GB and went up to 1TB. Did you know that THEY have to carry stuff like that to the register for you? Anyway, I copied the files onto the 64GB drive and hooked my SD to micro SD adapter up to the P1S. All I got for my effort was <ERROR>. After many pleas for mercy/bribes/threats, I finally got the P1S to divulge that it couldn't read the file format and to be sure the drive was formatted FAT32.

NO PROBLEMO, I'll just reformat that sucker in FAT32 and we'll be off to the races. Did you know that Windoze doesn't give you the option of formatting anything larger than 32GB in FAT32? I asked the friendly AI how to format a 64GB drive in FAT32 in Windoze, and it said that RUFUS would let me do that. So... I downloaded RUFUS, formatted the drive, copied the files, hooked my SD to micro SD adapter to the printer AND...

SHAAZAM, we are GOLDEN! It only took me 1-1/2 days to accomplish what SHOULD have been a 10 minute job.

Aint technology wonderful, always improving for the better. Unfortunately I did know about the FAT32 limitation for the same reason you did. Tried to cram too much into an old card that I thought should be able to take it. Not surprised about Wally World acting the way they did. Given the general nature of their clientele they are probably the most ripped off store in the world.

I have exactly one Bambu Labs printer, it's set up for LAN only. I've got Bambu Studio and it is NOT set up to share with the Bambu Labs mothership. I have successfully connected to, and bound, the printer using the IP address and Access code.

Now I have a question for you guys that you may or may not know the answer for. When I bound the printer it showed the printer in my devices. When I closed and reopened Studio it said I had no devices. Is there a way to get Studio to remember the IP address and Access code of my ONLY Bambu Labs printer, or is that my punishment for not sharing with the mothership?

Geez.... This it the most activity that I've seen on this site in months.

Hey Frizzen, I've still got that Nylint Power & Light truck, know anybody that might be interested in it? I even found the correct screws to replace the missing ones. It's a common problem because a lot of the trucks I've seen listed are missing 1 or more.

Frizzen, it's this truck. I couldn't find any of the original pictures so I had to take a new one.

Those are the original poles, I know that because this is a one-owner truck. I might even have the original tools for the toolbox in the trunk up in the attic. That auger looks good, but you can't dig a hole in anything harder than soft sand with it. Not for love nor money. That's probably why so many of these are either missing the screws that attach the auger head, or they have obvious replacement screws. From frustrated little trying to get that stupid auger to dig.

Don

Wow, that truck looks really clean and complete. Nice job taking care of it!

I'm kinda suprised how much parts carry over they had between that Power&Light Posthole truck and the Hi-Way Emergency wrecker.

I still pop in although less frequently. Haven't done much building recently. Did do a small local event that went well and have another the end of February.

Looks like a good time, nice sunny weather outside. There is an event similar to this near where I live called "Touch a Truck" which is a big hit with the kids. No RC though.
