Re: LINN Model DD-15 "HafTrak" Dump (1/14)
Awesome to see this getting worked on again. The drivecup and pinion mount are beautiful. Do you plan on swapping all the printed parts for metal, or only high stress parts?

Re: KATO HD308US
Love the tiny machines! What are the approximate undercarriage dimensions? Will it be electric or hydraulic?

Re: Is this hobby dying in the US?
Agreed.
Construction modelers have options for electric and hydraulic RTR excavators around a $1k price point. Lots of mainstream options to purchase. Those machines will naturally create...

Re: Cat 385c
Very nice machine. I'm not familiar with Oro2 but see on their website they specialize in very big Cat equipment.

Re: Micro TIG welders
Understandable that other things keep us busy. Model making is supposed to be fun, not worrisome.
I do think the machine is DC with dome agitation options which may mimic some aspects aspects of...

Re: Micro TIG welders
Ddmckee, im waiting patiently for some bead shots!
Played with 5052 aluminum. No better than 6061. Looks like I'm sticking to steel.

Re: Micro TIG welders
18-22 GA 1008 cold rolled as first choice or A36 pickled and oiled.
I should have some scrap suitable for cutting a weld to see penetration. Try and get some results over the weekend.

That machine has some real potential. The power for big stuff and precision for model making.

Re: Micro TIG welders
Drawing down what I have is interesting. Would at least let me see if I have a wire size issue or an alloy issue. I found some small wire from Gesswein in the diameters ddmckee mentioned.
I'm...

Re: Micro TIG welders
1mm .040" 6061 aluminum. No filler since I cant find 6061 wire small enough. Tried Er4043 .030" MiG filler, but it's a bit too big to melt evenly. Best results have a crack across the weld which is...

Re: Micro TIG welders
As a side note:
carbon steel welds turn out great and are super easy. 18ga at 75 Watt-seconds is pretty strong and looks nice. A little bit more penetration would be nice.
Brass is very sooty/ugly...

Re: Micro TIG welders
Sunstone says the default ignition retracts the electrode at the same time the arc fires. There is an option to have the arc fire after the electrode has retracted. The final setting is "pre heat"...
