Re: 777 HAUL TRUCK (1/12 size)
Have you talked to a tire store, about urethane fill for your truck tires?
Cheers, Neil. |

Re: 777 HAUL TRUCK (1/12 size)
I think he should put the tubes back in and run nitrogen... Don't want that tire pressure to change with all that heat build up while hauling!

Re: 777 HAUL TRUCK (1/12 size)
Right!! Forgot about that.....heat build up in haul truck tires is bad!!! I will have to consider that....hate to blow a tire knowing this thing has such a "blistering speed"...more likely heat build up from carrying a heavy empty @$$ truck...

Re: 777 HAUL TRUCK (1/12 size)
Yeah you wouldn't want it to burn up like that haul truck at the Meadowbank gold mine!

http://blog.otrwheel.com/what-is-pol...-does-it-work/ Go talk to a tire dealer that handles forklift and industrial/construction tire's, and they can give you more detail's, I don't think you need more than an "8" on the durometer scale, but inflate your tire's to the desired pressure, and tell the dealer to match it with the fill. Spray foam at home depot is NOT the same stuff. Hope this help's cheer's, Neil. |

Re: 777 HAUL TRUCK (1/12 size)
We have an old lawn mower that we use for towing trailers around the property. We had a tire shop fill the tires with foam. We still haven't had any problems with the tires even with the chains and a load on. So i'm sure whatever they used will work for you!

Re: 777 HAUL TRUCK (1/12 size)
Thanks guys for the tire fill info......that would be a good solution......the only draw back might be the added weight, not like this thing is a feather weight now...lol....

At least you might be the first to say even the weight was accurately scaled down!

Re: 777 HAUL TRUCK (1/12 size)
This truck is turning out to be much heavier than I thought....yikes...cutting it from solid material is a big reason for the added weight, at least something might be close to scale.....lol

Re: 777 HAUL TRUCK (1/12 size)
From my experience with racing go karts where the tires have to reach an optimum operating tempature of 165* F, when I ran tires with air or nitrogen they both reacted the same as far as how much air pressure was increased and it also took the same amount of laps to build the same heat and air pressure!!! With all that being said, I would look into foam filling the tires to achieve what you want!!! Also my wife's new nissan cube dropped air pressure from the recommended pressure of 44 psi to an average of 20 psi when the cold weather set in, and they are nitrogen filled also!!! Hope this helps!!!

Re: 777 HAUL TRUCK (1/12 size)
Made a new cab today (cut from 14ga)....needed to make some changes...so I added holes to attach the windows and the grab bar at the same time. Decided to use fasteners to attach the windows....the upper portion of the cab will be painted black so the fasteners shouldn't stick out to bad....

Very nice model you are making, interesting way of solving the ribs on body! A tripple 7 have always been a favorite for future modeling project, did find a 2nd hand model in 1/87 from CCM yesterday, can be useful for reference. /Dan |
