Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
I was hoping to get a Innie but the valve stem is smack dab in the center line going to try and remove the stem and salvage that band of rubber.

I thought about inflating , laying on the floor and make a jig for a marker to roll along the floor around the circumference but.... Too complex! Keep it simple right? As Joe mentioned, there are clear mold lines in the rubber I can follow. First cut will be extra wide and outside those lines, more belt than I need. Once I get rid of the excess and the belt is easier to work with, I can map out my final cut lines. That's what I'm thinking anyway. Definitely open to ideas and suggestions for making a nice simple , straight cut. |

Cut it when it's inflated, will be nice and solid, lol!!!!
Na , make sure you keep posting on this progress, I'm learning!!

Who knows RW. My next post might be ...... " fresh ground rubber for sale"
I like the cut inflated idea but I don't think my air compressor has enough volume to keep up with my cutting |

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Small update on the conveyor build.
Just so we're clear, this is not scale or highly detailed but all about functionality. Translation....it ain't pretty and I don't care ! Working with basic tools and materials makes people do funny things like a trip to the arts and crafts store for 7 bucks worth of wooden beads I figure a quick easy way to support and help create a dished belt Once I get the belt cut I can figure where to mount these but I'm sure you get the idea.... And the basic frame I started before getting the tire tube so I may have to redo with longer aluminum flat bar. 1/8X 1 X 4ft long as it stands... Like I said, nothing fancy. This is the research and development version, see how it works. So far really cheap and really simple. |

Don't try to BS us! You had those beads already....I won't say what you were probably using them for.

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Hey Mario, Izzy had a belt made for my belt trailer that is continuous and is vulcanized so it doesn't have a seam and its a real nice . Give him a holler it will work perfect and can be made any length

I like the bead idea and I hope it works out! Way more cost effective than machining rollers if you can get it to work! |

In the meantime I got a chance to start cutting this tire tube. I cut the valve stem out and trimmed the stem layer down and now can use the inner circumference for a belt. It's a little shorter than 4ft but will work great to test things out. First cut to make things easier to handle... its 4" wide now as I followed the centreline visible mold lines. Final cut next I think will be 2 3/4. As you can see by the smiley face strip you don't have to go very far off centreline and things get unusable. |

Re: S&M construction open for bizz nizz!
Looks good Mario!! Man I miss working with wood!! A couple years ago, before I had any metal equipment , I built a springer tug. I got detailed with the superstructure. All wood and I thought that was unforgiving!! That tug is a good part of the reason I bought a mill/lathe combo!!! I really wish I could make hydraulics from wood!!! Good idea to build and learn, that what I need to start doing . Keep up the pics!! .

So the test conveyor is coming along nice. original idea was a belt about 2.5" wide but quickly realized it's difficult to get a good curve or dish in the belt when it's so narrow. Didn't want to go too wide though and require more turning power and a stronger motor. Long story short, new belt width is approx 3 3/4" and much easier to work with. Here's a video of it running for the first time. Even without the rollers, the belt tracking is very decent already! I'm happy with the results so far http://youtu.be/51g-lSRkUIQ |
