i personaly think this is exactly how they should have built the old school trucks, looks awesom and some mad metal work skills.
but it definatly needs the old school paint job. cheers andy |

Thanks Andy. I had originally planned to paint it but now I am thinking it will be left raw to show off the metal body. I plan to polish all of the smaller parts but I haven't decided what finish to give the body. I am thinking polished is too much maintenance so maybe brushed finish? We'll see. I like the contrast of the copper and aluminum together. I just need to figure out what metal to use and where.lol

I agree 100% Reg. The copper and aluminum work really well together and looks wicked! But what are you gonna do about the scars in the cab roof?

Oh, and are you suggesting that I put a driven front axle in this? The thought had crossed my mind but I don't want to spend the money for an axle.lol |

Always a big fan of your ally work Reg! I think you've got a great eye for the detail and then using wafer thin ally (and copper!) to catch the look with such a good fettle and finish is very skillful..... top work in my book (again)

Thanks very much Glenn. I think I have nearly addressed what Mario was referring to and it looks much better. I needed to sand that crud off but I was leery to do it because I couldn't remember how bad my metal work was underneath. Apparently it wasn't too bad as I was able to sand off almost all of the JB weld without finding any major imperfections in the metal. Once I had things looking close I tried making up a copper visor.

![]() ![]() Remember how much fun the 850 axles were Reg? .....oh, wait a minute. You DO remember, that's why you haven't made one already. ![]() The scars are gone! Not sure what you were covering up in the first place? Question: can you clear coat this to preserve the nice clean look? I know it's not humid in your neck of the woods but that copper is going to be tough to keep clean and shiny? |
