rub the body down with a grey scotch-brite pad.
wash,dry then prime

I use Meguiar's cut polish, comes in different grades from high abrasive to very fine polish.

It is also what is know as body shop safe which means it has no silicone in it. So no chance of it causing fish eyes in paint.
