Talking Idea for something to do at truck shows. Truck Pulling

I was wandering if anybody would be interested in building pulling trucks to have truck pulls at the shows. Here is what I am thinking.

: Stock Tamiya truck axles, trans, suspension

: Tires of tires and rims but must be same size as stock, ex. RC4WD roadys or the fulda cross-force.

: Motors no bigger than 540 size can. Brushed or brush-less

: Gear reduction is builders choice

: Frame rails no longer than the longest stock rails in a kit which I think are either the Knight hauler or Aeromax. Frame rails can be aftermarket just have to meet the length limits.

: The sled and hitch will be provided and all competitors will use the same hitch.

All ideas and comments are welcome.

The weight of the truck is key. You could have two weight classes.

That would be cool though.

I am in!! I love this idea but a mod class would be more fun.

Now your going to have to have a class for gear reduction and non reduction.. Do it like the races stock set up all you can change is pinon and and motor and tires and radio gear but state what esc everyone has to use.

Definitely and after pulling my Aeromax a few times the trucks need weight over the axle so the hitch will have a weight box made on it so all of the trucks will have the same amount of weight add over the axles.

Now agreeing on a weight class will be the next thing. I say for the stock class it should be the weight of a knight hauler + 1lb

So for classes I can think of three.

Stock: no gear reduction, stock motor, non computerized brushed only esc

Super stock: gear reduction and any brushed motor and brushed only esc

Modified: unlimited only stock parts are stock trans axles

Why not try doing something constructive? like take that dirt pile over there & build some roads, or a runway up to an overpass.

Build a quarry site complete with a jaw crusher, conveyers, screening plant... crush road gravel into scale road gravel.

Lots of you guys now with newly build dump trks, put 'em to work!

Try working together to do something constructive instead of competing against one another to be individuals.

I think it's a cool idea. I've always enjoyed truck, tractor, and semi truck pulls.

Someone is going to have to design and build a good pulling sled though. It would be neat to keep the sled scale looking, but many times the best and functional sleds are anything but scale. It's just bragging rights in the end anyway. No one is going to care what the sled looks like, as long as it performs the same with every hook.

We are working on getting one drawn up right now and we would like to make it as scale looking as possible but still be functional and reliable.

We do stuff like that at the shows but not everybody is into that. Many of us do full size tractor and truck pulling and would find doing it with scale models just as enjoyable. In the 1:1 pulling we are a family, we go out to eat together, help each other get there tractors ready including wrenching on them if need be and we celebrate each others accomplishments at a banquet at the end of the year. It is not just about the competition it is about the friendship and the enjoyment we get out of it.We are also trying to offer things to do that will get more people exited about the hobby and we had a lot of interest in the truck pulling at the Jackson Tenn. show. There were quite a few people that thought the equipment was neat but were more interested in the truck pulling.

As for a Sled Robbert has a buddy with the most scale sled I would say ever and it is full remote control perfect in every way..

And I see no reason why not do the pulling 3 years ago at Indy when Robbert and my son pulled the sled with there rigs people were all over it and not many people have equipment do to its cost this is something everybody could get into on top of having a truck and trailer and have even more fun.. I dont think it will take away from the rest of the show it all..

I think this would be a great thing to do at shows and such. It will get lots more attention and spectators will hang around a while. You might get more participants as well.

I like it, maybe this is how I can get my dad back into the hobby. He used to pull in the early 80s with bruisers and clod busters. Been meaning to get him a truck anyway.

Here is a pic of the sled I built about 15 years ago. We use to pull stock 2wd trucks and buggies. I liked pulling my old RC10 and then I got a Stampede back when traxxas still made kits and it was just a blast to run. This thing worked great till we got the EMaxx's the poor sled didn't stand a chance. The sled is still usable and works good it's just not real pretty.
